In Uttarakhand two IAS officers, the District Magistrates of Haridwar and Rudraprayag viz Deepak Rawat and Mangesh Desai are quite famous and adored by the citizens of their respective districts and considered as role models in entire Uttarakhand.

In this era of active social media, the good and laudable people centric works of these two district magistrates are usually highlighted in various posts and vedios in the social networking sites thus inspiring the right thinking people, young generation and social activists to follow suit regarding exposing societal corruption and various other inadequacies or faults in the system.

There have been several videos which went viral in social media of Haridwar DM Deepak Rawat and Rudraprayag district magistrate Mangesh Ghildiyal showing them inspecting offices, hospitals, schools and town areas highlighting the official negligencies in the system and instructing senior officials and employees to mend their ways lest they should be ready to face the worst.

In one of the vedios the Rudraprayag DM Mangesh Ghildiyal was shown teaching the students of the schools in remote villages and also singing a regional Garhwali song in one of the socio cultural functions.

The DM of Haridwar Deepak Rawat who is too strict and fully dedicated towards his duties randomely visits dispensaries, government hospitals, schools and town areas and checks for himself minutely whether doctors or medicines and teachers are available in hospitals and schools and whether things are moving properly in wider public interests.

In one of the cases the Haridwar DM Rawat even chased a pharmacist during duty hours and caught him on the road to enquire about his credentials and his absence from duty thus lateron allegedly exposing a big pharmaceutical scam etc.

His vedio went viral inviting the attention of thousands of people active in social media. To everyone’s surprise just few days ago the district majistrate of Rudraprayag Mangesh Ghildiyal dressed in a simple Kurta Pyjaama, posing himself to be one of the pilgrims, visiting the ancient shrine of Kedarnath in Garhwal , Uttarakhand reached the first and main place of Kedarnath dham in order to secretly inspect the worsening condition of the area. It was midnight the time.

While inspecting the aweful situation of the area viz broken taps, bad conditions of toilets, dirt all around and the negligence of police officials during duty hours, made the district magistrate extremely furious, angry and disturbed.

Nobody recognised the DM in plain and simple clothes as a common pilgrim. After personally assesing and inspecting the bad situation leading to immense hardships to the pilgrims visiting Kedarnath ancient historic Shrine, DM Mangesh Ghildiyal immediately transferred the Gaurikund sector Magistrate to Kedarnath with a strict warning to show constructive results in the near future.

Not only this but he immediately suspended the Assistent Engineer and Junior Engineer for lapses in providing adequate drinking water facilities to the pilgrims.

Seeing the extremely bad condition of the toilets of Sulabh international he penalised the Sulabh management by invoking a penalty of Rs 5 lakhs with immediate effect.

He also instructed the SP to immediately transfer the Police Post incharge of of Gaurikund. The pro people district magistrate was with the pilgrims and local populace whole night looking after the arrangements and noting discrepencies and returned to his office at 12 noon the next day.

The entire country needs such vigilant, highly dedicated and people centric IAS officers who dedicate themselves for true and transparent public service than feeding the politicians. Both Deepak Rawat and Mangesh Ghildiyal ( IAS) are the true and genuine source of inspiration to the budding young officers who are desirous of serving the country as IAs in the near future.
