Thane’s Reny Varghese is a trailblazer. His relentless effort to produce vegetables with waste has taken him places, including winning the National Swachhata Mission award. The lofty mission started on his roof where his fertile ideas began blooming. Now, his new farmland — the backyard of the hospital where he works — feeds nearly 150 patients.

Varghese has now mastered the art of converting the wet waste — disposed of by the Bai Jerbai Wadia Hospital for Children — to compost. The green project was unleashed on August 29, 2017, as an answer to a flood that brought down the boundary walls of his residential compound, Vijay Garden Society, and eroded soil formed piles on the campus.

“We collected the mud in empty paint drums and planted seeds of vegetables like bhindi, lalmath, etc.,” he said. The drums yield enough crops to feed at least six families daily.

“Everyday, the hospital generates around 50 to 55kilo wet waste. The dry waste is sent to the municipality as well as to an NGO that recycles the product,” he said. “We put this wet waste in the compost. Finally, it becomes manure,” he added.

The manure used for in-house gardening and agriculture farm.

“We plant seasonal crops and the vegetables grown in this farm are enough for a one-time meal for 150 patients,” he said.

The 7,000-sq-ft farm yields okra, spinach, pumpkin, garlic, turmeric and tomatoes, fig, guava, custard apple, pineapple, lemon, etc.

On February 19, the hospital bagged the prestigious National Swachhata Mission Award under the health/hygiene/sanitation category. “This was quite a surprise as one of the visitors who accidentally saw our hospital farm suggested our name for the award,” he said

There are news reports pouring in that the case pertaining to the alleged bribing of Uttarakhand lawmakers by the former chief minister of Uttarakhand Harish Rawat in 2016, is to be heard by the Uttarakhand high court on 20th of September.

The Uttarakhand High Court in Nainital has fixed 20th September to decide the case finally for which the necessary evidence is reported to have been submitted in the Court. Former Uttarakhand CM Rawat had already appeared before the  CBI investigating officers twice and has pleaded not guilty. It may be recalled that in 2016 there had been an unprecedented drama over the continuance of Harish Rawat’s government when 11 Congress lawmakers had left the parent party to join the BJP. While Rawat’s government was in jeopardy in 2016, one of the journalists’ of Uttarakhand from Samachar Plus conducted a sting operation in which both of them were caught in camera talking about alleged bribing of MLAs.
However, now Rawat claims that it was just a conversation, and not a single MLA was paid any money. Rawat refuted the allegations and accused the Samachar Plus news channel’s proprietor who conducted the sting, of conspiratorially trying to trap him at the behest of the BJP. All the defected Congress MLAs had, later on, lost their Congressi memberships and had joined the BJP, many of whom are today minister in the BJP government of Uttarakhand.

However, unexpectedly Harish Rawat had won the trust vote and had continued his government for a few months till the state elections were finally held in 2017.

Due to the increasing media hype and public outrage, the then governor of Uttarakhand Dr K. K. Paul had ordered the CBI enquiry into the sting operation which was widely circulated by the electronic and print media. The sting video was widely circulated over WhatsApp and YouTube.
After this episode, the Congress-led by Harish Rawat badly lost at the hustings in 2017 conceding defeat to BJP which staged a historic win by securing 57 seats out of 70. A record of sorts in the last 19 years of the state gaining a separate identity.
Even the former CM Rawat had lost from both the assembly constituencies, he contested from.
While Harish Rawat was the CM he demanded SIT enquiry instead of CBI alleging that the premier investigating agency wanted to trap him at the direction of the centre but Rawat’s Bete Noire now minister in BJP government and also in the Congress cabinet earlier filed a petition in High Court of Uttarakhand to continue the CBI investigation as the charges against Harish Rawat were of grave and serious nature.
Political analysts in Uttarakhand predict that after the arrest of former finance minister P. Chidambaram who is currently in CBI’s custody till 26th August, maybe that another corrupt wicket of Congress falls. However, it all depends on the honourable court’s verdict on 20th September when the case comes for hearing in Nainital High Court.

Harish Rawat trying for an image makeover

However, despite the sword of the court looming over Rawat’s future, he is extremely active in Uttarakhand’s politics participating in protests marches in order to save him, active on twitter criticizing the ruling party every now and then for whatever possible in the state as well as at the centre and leading anti-drug campaigns in Uttarakhand hills these days to better his sulking image.

Chidambram finally arrested by CBI after two days of unprecedented drama

Read Time: 5 minutes
The former finance minister P. Chidambaram was finally arrested last evening from his Jor Bagh House in New Delhi. All attempts to block the CBI had failed and after a 55 minutes drama, Chidambaram was finally arrested. He is to be grilled by the Economic Offences Wing. He has been taken to the CBI headquarter in New Delhi for interrogation.
Former finance minister P. Chidambaram has been arrested for his alleged involvement in the INX media case which happened during his tenure as the union finance minister. The former minister’s son was consulting for INX media and had used his father’s influence, who was the finance minister of the country at that point of time to favor the company. It is alleged that about 7 lakh dollars were illegally transferred into his son’s account.
This is an economic office of grave nature. The proprietor of the INX media Peter Mukerjee is already in jail on murder charges. Mr. Chidambaram had filed two anticipatory bail applications in Delhi high court which was turned down yesterday. Yesterday evening, the CBI and ED officers went to the former’s residence to arrest him, who had evaded them for some time. It was learned that he had been busy with a senior advocate and Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi.
Mr. Singhvi had filed a petition on behalf of  Chidambaran in Supreme Court. After not getting any relief from Justice Ramanna’s bench in Supreme Court, the CBI arrested him from his Jor Bagh residence on Wednesday evening. Mr. Chidambaran dramatically appeared at AICC headquarter prior to his arrest and addressed media at 8.19 PM. Later on, he came to his Jor Bagh residence from where he was arrested. The CBI officer’s had to climb the gates of his Jor Bagh house to arrest the former minister. The former finance minister was taken for a medical check-up as per protocol from the CBI headquarters where he had been taken after his arrest.
Earlier while rejecting the anticipatory bail of P. Chidambaram yesterday the Delhi high court said that it seems that the former finance minister was the kingpin in the entire episode and the economic offense is of grave nature. The supreme court in its order said that keeping in view the grave nature of the case the nonarrest bail can not be given. It may be recalled that a case of money laundering was registered against the former finance minister in 2018 and his arrest has finally materialized on Wednesday evening.
During his press conference at the AICC headquarter prior to his arrest the coterie of senior Congress leaders and senior advocates Kapil Sibal, Abhishekh Manu Singhvi, Salman Khurshid, Ghulam Nabi Azad, etc were present to provide Chidambaram moral support.
Karti had misused his father’s power when he was a minister. After his father’s arrest, Chidambaram’s son Karti Chidambaram addressed the media outside his Jor Bagh house and accused the ruling party of misusing powers and arresting his father for political vendetta. Karti went on repeating his lines and latched on to the vendetta cry. On the one hand, the Chidambaram was evading CBI from questioning him, and now they are stating it is a vendetta.
The hearing in Supreme Court will resume tomorrow and Chidambaram’s army of senior advocates including Kapil Sibal and Abhishek Manu Singhvi will appear on his behalf. They will do everything possible to get their tainted colleague out on bail.
Congress staged protests outside the AICC’s 24 Akbar Road headquarter against Chidambaram’s arrest. Corruption is corruption, Congress should not turn it into a revolution and should stop pro-corruption protests.
However, hopefully, justice will prevail and the guilty he will be put behind bars.
In the meanwhile, Congress goes after the judiciary and has slammed the supreme court apart from off course attacking the government. Congress has a history of attacking the judiciary as well as the governmental agencies.
Chidambaram had said that law shall take its own course. Now the law is taking its own course. They went to the court and their plea was rejected. CBI just wanted to talk to Chidambaram and had given due notice, but Chidambaram had been running to pillar to post, even his own party did not know where he was. If he has done no harm, then he has nothing to fear. Nobody is above law. As such, Chidambaram has an army of lawyers to save him.
So far, Congress has only one line of defense, that it is just political vendetta. Meanwhile, it is has learned that Congress and the opposition support and give a platform to the fake news icon, Shehla Rashid, of the Tukde Tukde Gang, who was earlier exposed by the army. She had admitted that she has no evidence. No facts, high drama.
Congress and Corruption have become synonymous. As per sources, CBI has stated that Chidambaram answers are evasive and he not cooperating with CBI. The CBI might seek remand as there was an enormity of evidence and paucity of time in interrogating him.

Excessive and very heavy rains have caused havoc in the various parts of Uttarakhand. There have been dangerous incidents of cloud bursts too. This has killed several people and damaged houses.

The overflowing of Tons river in Uttarkashi town due to excessive rain and cloud burst incidents have claimed several lives. The water in uncontrollable quantity has washed away houses and people too. As per the latest reports, about 18 persons were reported missing after the deluge in the Tons river of Uttarkashi district on Sunday.
The Tons river was overflowing above the danger mark for the last several days due to over-accumulation of water as a result of heavy rains. The Tons river, last night and today breached the local market of Uttarkashi. This has compelled the state administration to issue an alert and direct residents to leave their houses. The chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has personally intervened and held urgent meetings with top bureaucrats of the concerned departments to expedite relief and rescue operations.
Last week about 6 persons were reportedly killed in Chamoli district due to heavy landslides and cloud burst incidents. The Gangotri highway and even the Jwalpa Devi Marg in Pauri Garhwal district near Dugadda have been closed. The heavy JPC machines are busy clearing the landslide debris on snake-shaped roads. This has led to immense inconvenience to the pilgrims and tourists including the local residents.
The Kempty Mussourie Yamunotri Road had also been closed due to heavy landslides. The PWD employees were busy clearing hundreds of tons of silt by heavy JCB machines. This has led to myriad queues of the cars of tourists and the locals on both sides of the roads.
In Chamoli, due to excessive rainfall, the Badrinath National Highway, Lambagad to Pipalkoti was also blocked due to landslides. This has severely affected the transport movement.
Uttarkashi had been the worst victim after Chamoli this monsoon. Due to a cloud burst in Uttarkashi, on Saturday night in Arakot area of Mori subdivision Makuri, Tikochi, Araakot, and Maunda villages were the worst victims. The destruction here has been devastating.

Braveheart Lance Naik of Indian Army Sandeep Thapa who was martyred today at LOC in ceasefire violation by Pakistan
Spread the love
Read Time: 3 minutes

Sandeep Thapa was today martyred at the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir.

He was a young and valiant soldier, a Lance Naik of Indian Army. He belonged to Sahaspur, Dehradun.

This was in the cross border exchange of fire after the breach of ceasefire by Pakistan. He was martyred in the Naushera sector of Rajouri in Jammu and Kashmir. This has happened after the scrapping up of the articles 370 and 35 A in Jammu and Kashmir.

After Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh were granted a separate union territory status, neighboring Pakistan and its government led by Imran Khan and Pak Army are in immense frustration. Pakistan has accumulated forces at the Indo Pak border and has increased arbitrary firings on the Indian side. This is being bravely countered and repelled by Indian Army at the LOC. In fact, the law and order situation in strife-torn Kashmir has considerably improved after the positioning of more than 30 thousand Indian Army and CRPF troopers at the LOC and various strife-torn locations in the Kashmir valley.

The incidents of terrorist attacks on domestic as well as on the cross border infiltration fronts have also incredibly improved. The strictness on the part of the union government and the state administration now under governor’s rule commanding the army and the paramilitary forces and jawans to deal with terrorism from this side of the border or any misadventure from Pakistan has yielded good results. The situation in strife-torn Kashmir is gradually returning to normalcy as curfew in several parts of Kashmir has been withdrawn. Therefore with no option left and completely frustrated Pakistan is engaged in the ceasefire violation. There have been about 1900 ceasefire violations till now.

Lance Naik Sandeep Thapa

The India forces and jawans are countering the Paki onslaughts with full might. A month ago 5 BAT commandoes of Pakistan who tried to cross the LOC were killed by the Indian Army and their bodies were handed over to Pakistan. Meanwhile, the chief minister of Uttarakhand Trivendra Singh Rawat while expressing his immense grief over the martyrdom of the young Lance Naik of Indian Army today assured of all possible governmental support and financial assistance to the bereaved family. Uttarakhand chief minister tweeted: Uttarakhand’s saput (valiant son of Uttarakhand) Sandeep Thapa has sacrificed himself in the cross border firing by Pakistan at the Indo-Pak border. I, again and again, bow down in reverence to this great martyr Lance Naik Thapa. While praying for the condolence to the bereaved family we assure of always standing in support of the Martyred family.

A massive fire broke out on the first floor of the teaching block of All India Institute of Medical Sciences.

This happened today near and on the upper floor of the Casualty department. The smoke of the spreading fire had engulfed the adjoining buildings as well.

This included the Cardiovascular Thoracic department building. This is where the former Finance minister Arun Jaitley is admitted in the ICU of the CARDIAC department. There is nothing much to worry as this building is quite at a distance from the Teaching block which caught fire.

This building is just adjacent to the Casualty Ward where hundreds of patients arrive on a daily basis 24 x 7. About twenty-two to twenty-five fire tenders were desperately engaged in controlling the fire and preventing it to spread further. The hospital authorities have closed the laboratory on the first floor of the building. The patients too have been safely evacuated.

There is no report of any serious casualty so far. The reason for the fire is being speculated as a short circuit. However, the actual reason for the eruption of fire would be ascertained after the fire is fully controlled. The was panic all around inside and outside AIIMS as well, as hundreds of thousands of patients from Delhi and other states visit here regularly. The building houses nephrology, gynecology, endocrinology, cardiology, skin, cancer and neurology departments where people from different parts of the country arrive for treatment and critical surgeries.
