Dehradun, the capital of the Indian state of Uttarakhand, is located near the Himalayan foothills. Best known for its landscapes and natural resources the city is bordered by two great rivers of India – the Ganges and Yamuna. Dehradun is also known for its pleasant climate that offers the city with high amounts of rainfall during the monsoons and really cold weather in the winters.

Here are some of the places to visit on your trip to Dehradun.

Sahastradhara

Sahastradhara, which means thousand fold spring, is one of the most famous tourist attraction in Dehradun.

The place is known for its magnificent beauty where the water drips from the limestone stalactites, making the water rich in sulphur content and thus the place is also popular for its sulphur springs.

Tiger Falls

A little away from the urban city of Dehradun, the magnificent waterfall called Tiger Falls is located near Chakrata.

Situated amidst the hilly terrain and pristine in its wild beauty, Tiger Falls is one of the favourite tourist spots among the trekkers as well as a perfect remote picnic spot for friends.

Robber’s Cave

Robber’s Cave locally known as Guchhupani is situated near Sahastradhara or thousand-fold spring. This place is actually a river cave formation in Himalaya, which is located approximately 8 km from the centre of Dehradun City.

It is believed that these caves were used by the robbers as their hideouts during the British reign. Hence, it was named as Robber’s Cave.

Mindrolling monastery

It is one of the most popular monasteries in Dehradun. Founded in 1965, the Mindrolling monastery is among the six major monasteries of Tibet’s Nyingma School.

Tapkeshwar Temple

Dehradun also houses one of its most visited temples, known as Tapkeshwar where Lord Shiva is the presiding deity.

The temple is situated by the side of rich forests and natural caves, which provides an amusing spectacle to the place.

Malsi Deer Park

Now called as Dehradun Zoo, Malsi deer park is the most visited wildlife spot in Dehradun. The mini zoological park is ideal for family outings or school excursions.

Apart from the amazing sight of herds of deer meandering freely in their habitat, the Malsi reserve also offers scenic beauty of numerous birds found in the park.
