The political situation in Karnataka has become quite precarious after the resignation offer of 14/ 15 dissident lawmakers of Karnataka Congress and JDS.
The political drama started yesterday evening has now adopted a worrisome shape as ten of the legislators who’d taken shelter in a Mumbai Hotel namely Sofietal are being approached by the BJP leaders alleged sources.
The Congress party’s senior leader Mallikarjun Kharge has openly accused the ruling Bhartiya Janata Party of trying to deliberately and pre strategically break the JDs, Congress government amounting to the murder of democracy by inciting dissident MLAs and engineering defections against alleged favours enabling the fall of a democratically elected  stable government.
Meanwhile the JD(S) legislature party meeting has been convened at the  Taj Western Hotel to be attended by the senior Congress leaders as well apart from the JD veteran HD Devegowda, former PM and Karnataka CM and father of the present chief minister HD Kumaraswamy.
After the resignation of 14 MLAs though still not accepted by the Karnataka Assembly speaker, the majority of the JD (S) and Congress government has been reduced to mere 106 MLAs including a vote of the speaker while the BJP has 105 MLAs.
This is a wafer thing majority and the situation is quite precarious with the govt likely to fall in case the dissident remained obstinate.
There are confirmed reports  that BJP leadership is leaving no stone unturned to take the advantage of the situation seemingly going in its favour.
There are also rumours within the Congress circles that in case the precious Congress CM Sidharamahiah is made the CM, the dissidents may withdraw their resignations.
Lets see what really comes out of this impasse. It may be recalled that the JD(S) – Congress government was formed and HD Kumaraswamy made the CM of Karnataka despite being in minority with just 39 MLAs as Congress wanted to keep the BJP out of power despite its individual strength of 105 MLAs.
According to the latest reports the BJP has also convened its legislative meeting at Bangaluru tomorrow to takt stock of the situation and devise a credible strategy to take advanyage out of the grim political situation favouring the saffron party dearly.
