HN Bahuguna’s centenary celebration starting from 25th April at national level/ 1st celebration at Constitution club, New Delhi

The ardent followers, colleagues and those believing in the ethos, principles and programmes of late political stalwart of the country, the former Chief minister of Uttar Pradesh and several times Union minister in the governments led by Indira Gandhi, Morarji Desai and Choudhary Charan Singh late H. N Bahuguna, are celebrating 2018 as the Late H N Bahuguna Centenary Year under which seminars, round table discussions, debates and public meetings would be organised in various parts of the country through out the year.

A national and Delhi level centenary celebration committees has been formed by the national convenor former Kerala minister and MP Neela Lohitadasan Nayar to be co chaired by supreme court advocate Z. K. Faizan. The Delhi State Centenary Celebrations Committe would be chaired and co chaired by Devendra Sharma and Sunil Negi, journalist respectively.

To start with, the first programme to commemorate the late leader and Jan Nayak Hemwati Nanda Bahuguna’s birthday celebration is being organised at Constutition Club, Rafi Marg, New Delhi on 25th April, to be addressed by prominent secular leaders of the country viz. Prakash Karat, Sharad Yadav, CPI’s K. Raja, Atul Kumar Anjan, Harikesh Bahadur, Neelalohitadasan Nadar ( Both Ex MPs) etc.

Other members of the committee are senior journalists, Harish Awasthi, National spokesperson AAP, Umakant Lakhera, Suresh Nautiyal, Vyomesh Jugran, Dr. Idreesh Qureshi, Asif Kamal, Pyare Miyan, Manish Sharma n others. Several papers on secularism, Bahuguna’s policies, programmes and his relevance in the context of today’s socio political scenerio would be read out on this occassion.Those preparing papers on these significant topics are professor Bahuguna of Jamia University, Dr. Devendra Kaushik, former professor of JNU and journalist Suresh Nautiyal.

Hundreds of Bahuguna’s followers, political supporters and well wishers would participate in this centenary celebration from various parts of the country. Late H. N Bahuguna was the freedom fighter and political leader of great eminence on whose head the Britishers had fixed the prize of 25 thousand Rupees during the pre independence era while the former was a revolutionery student leader in Allahabad and was a great headache for the British police.

He was asked to be caught dead or alive. Bahuguna was the first leader in Congress party who kicked his Uttar Pradesh chief ministership to oppose the then Indira Handhi against draconion emergency of 1975 thus having played a most signficant role in the formation of Janata Party in 1977.

He was highly and greatly respected amongst the minorities, Dalits and the down troddens of the country and is the first non muslim leader to start the Roza Iftar parties in India. Bahuguna always stood for political ethics, principles, pro poor programmes and policies and contributed tremendously inestablishing communal harmony, peace, amity, brotherhood amongst Hindu Muslims all over the country and fighting the fundamentalists,fascists and communalists, tooth and nail.

He was the sharp, well read and an eloquent politician having special power to impress and attract all sections of the society. Bahuguna stood for true secularism and communal amityand always stood for the poor and down trodden masses of the country. He was a mass leader with precision, intelligence and pro people tilt.

Sunil Negi hails from Uttarakhand and is a veteran journalist and author. He is a prolific writer and has carved a name for himself in the media world. He received the 'Golden Achiever Award' in the '90th AIAC Excellence Awards 2019' for his book ''Havoc in Heaven'' based on the tragedy that struck Uttarakhand in which thousands of people lost their lives. He is also the President of Uttarakhand Journalists Forum and majorly writes on Politics, Current Affairs, and Social Issues.
