It was indeed a great pleasure to have done the role of a guest anchor in a short duration movie in the making, having scripted and directed by Atul Devrani a seasoned documentary maker at reputed Oxford Book Store in Cannaught Place the other day alongwith senior journalist Charu Tiwari and artist/ actress Guneet Kaur Narula who acted as the chief guest. The movie is based on the story of Gurneet in the film as she plays the role of the women story writer of Geetu.

The movie titled GEETU is based on the issue of sex discrimination and honour killing, a major social evil still prevalent in our society especially in the conservative patriarchal societies where love has no significance, since the orthodox society is embebbed in age old traditions of caste conflicts n squeezed thinking.

In this age of revolutionery scientific development n change in societal norms it looks absurd when one confronts girls n women being subjected to various squeezed social pressures n stigmas in villages n sub urban cities leading to honour killings.

Not only this but the unfortunates cases of embroyo destruction at artificial insemination centres have also become the order of the day in villages n rural areas killing girl child before birth.

Though this cruel act of the murders of girl child has been totally barred under the PNDT Act. ( Pre Natal Sexual Determination Test) with stringent punishment for several years n huge fine, such obnoxious acts are still being carried out in various sex clinics n gynocology private hospitals under the guise of treatment of pregnant women.

As a result the girl child ratio as compared with boys is diminishing in the states like Haryana, UP, Bihar, Rajasthan etc resulting in trafficking of women in these states to fulfil the sexual lusts of the rich from other parts of the country amounting to increased exploitation of girls hailing from poor families who are often pushed to forced prostitution by the professional gangs involved in trafficking n sex trade.

Apart from this the system of dowry is still prevalent in our society leading to immolation of brides after marriages for want of dowry. If one goes by the statistics of NCRB it’s shocking to note that the traumatic incidents of immolation of brides, throwing of acids on girls, sexual harrasment at work place, eve teasing, stalking and rapes are on the increase.

Though there have been lot of women commissions, social welfare departments n police doing enough to counter this menace but still lot more needs to be done before it’s too late. Awareness in the society against sex descrimination and honour killing is therefore the need of the hour.

Therefore Kudos to Atul Devrani for taking the cudgels in his hands for making a fantastic lesson giving movie titled GEETU to mobilise the women n girls n the narrow minded parents n society of the country spending his own money n resources. This what ATUL HAS TO SAY ABOUT HIS UPCOMING MOVIE GEETU:
