A routine meeting to discuss budget of East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) resulted into exchange of blows between the councillors of East Delhi. In four-hour long fight, a female Aam Admi Party councillor and a marshal got injured, while police personnel deployed at the meeting remained spectator.

The scuffle started when leader of opposition in EDMC, Aam Aadmi Party’s Kuldeep Kumar demanded to play a video before the House, where a BJP councillor can be seen making indecent remarks about a senior AAP councillor Hasibol Hasan.

However, this resulted into protest from both sides, as BJP councillor refuted the claims and demanded to go ahead with usual proceedings, while the AAP councillors demanded an apology from the accused councillor Romesh Gupta, who denied it.

After a brief verbal spat and some pushing-pulling the Mayor of EDMC, Bipin Bihari, suspended the proceedings for a while but as soon as the councillors returned back to the House, the spat became ugly and allegedly AAP councillor started to attack the BJP councillors.

While the some councillors tried to bring peace between the parties, their efforts ended up with getting blows. Some councillors even assaulted the Mayor after he tried to guide them away from his chair.Reacting to the assault the Mayor looked towards the police personnels posted in the room, but to no avail as the policemen barely moved and enjoyed the scene at a distance.

However, seeing the situation escalating, the officials present in the room directed Marshals to guide leader of opposition Kuldeep Kumar out of the room, but when the marshals picked him up, other AAP councillors launched attack on the marshal and banged one of the marshal’s head on a glass, leaving him injured.

AAP councillor and leader Rekha Tyagi also got injuries after the shattered glass struck on her hand. While Mayor, Bihari and other BJP leader staged a protest at DCP office complex against policemen’s attitude.
