Chief Editor of Hind Samachar Group and Punjab Kesari, a former member of parliament Ashwani Kumar Chopra is no more.

He died today suffering from prolonged cancer. Late Ashwani Kumar Chopra was 63 years old and was born in 1956.

He was the grandson of the founder of Punjab Kesari and Hind Samachar Group of Publications Late Lala Jagat Narayan who was shot dead by terrorists in 1984. Late Ashwani Kumar’s father Romesh Chandra Chopra also succumbed to the bullets of terrorists in 1983. This family was known for sacrificing their lives while fighting terror in Punjab during the Khalistan movement daring to file stories against incessant terrorism in Punjab.

Punjab Kesari newspaper published from several places in the country with its headquarter in Wazirpur Delhi under the editorship of late Ashwani Chopra is one of the largest selling Hindi newspapers of the country, extremely popular in Punjab and other parts of the country. It has the largest ABC circulation amongst the Hindi Newspapers of the country. The Punjab Kesari Group was also running the Senior citizens Club with Late Ashwani Chopra’ s wife Kiran Chopra as it’s president. He was the MP from Bhartiya Janta Party in the 16th Lok Sabha from Karnal, Haryana.

Ashwani Chopra was the eldest son of the journalist’s family of Hind Samachar Group founded by late Lala Jagat Narain from Punjab. May the Almighty grant peace to his soul. The departing of Ashwani Chopra is a great loss to Hindi journalism and the void left by him would be difficult to fill. Uttarakhand Journalists Forum expresses its deepest condolences on the sad and untimely demise of late Ashwani Chopra and prays to almighty to render peace to his soul and provide enough strength to the bereaved family to bear this unbearable loss.
