Anyone who knows about yoga and meditation would be aware of the term ‘Mudra’. Mudras are hand gestures to regulate the flow of energy in the body and direct it towards different areas to stimulate them, thus increasing vitality.

Different mudras have different functions and draw upon the energy of the five elements, which are believed to constitute everything visible to the eye.

These five elements, namely Earth, Fire, Water, Air, and Space, are symbolized through different fingers of our hands, the joining of which in different formations result in different mudras with varying effects.

This is the one recommended for all students as it enhances one’s knowledge, but it’s useful for others too, as it improves memory and enhances brain functions which are necessary for a healthy life.
Joining the tip of your thumb with the tip of the index finger, while keeping all other fingers straight results in the Gyan Mudra. It is helpful in heightening the attention and also dealing with anxiety and depression among its other effects.

RUDRA MUDRA

Performed by folding the index and the ring fingers and pressing them with the thumb while keeping the other fingers straight; Rudra Mudra is associated with the activation of the fire chakra, thus increasing vitality and healing properties. It not only enhances the digestive powers, thus increasing the absorption of nutrients into the body, but also relieves dizziness and sharpens intuition.

TSE MUDRA

Known for fighting depression and anxiety while boosting intuition, Tse mudra specifically focuses on the improvement of our mental health while getting rid of negative energy. This mudra is performed by placing the tip of the thumb on the base of the little finger and closing the fist while encircling the thumb. This, accompanied by deep breathing and the chanting of Om, works wonder in terms of stress relief.

VAJRA MUDRA

A simple mudra increases the circulation of blood and enhances energy. It relieves fatigue and strengthens the immune system. To perform the Vajra mudra, you join the tips of your thumb, the middle, ring, and the little finger together, while keeping your index finger straight.

MUKULA MUDRA

Mukula mudra is used to balance the body’s electrical field and cure pain and a number of health problems. It is also known as the ‘Beak Hand Mudra’ as it is performed by joining the tips of all five fingers, making it look like a beak. It helps to direct energy towards the desired body part or wherever you are feeling pain or unease, thus quickening the healing process. It also offers immediate relief if done correctly.
