In a landmark decision, Abu Dhabi has included Hindi as the third official language used in its courts, alongside Arabic and English, as part of a move designed to improve access to justice.
The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department on Saturday said it has extended the adoption of interactive forms of statement of claims filed before courts by including the Hindi language alongside Arabic and English in labour cases.
This is aimed at helping Hindi speakers to learn about litigation procedures, their rights and duties without a language barrier, in addition to facilitating registration procedures via unified forms available through the ADJD website, the judicial body said.

According to official figures, the UAE population is estimated to be around five million of which 2/3rd are immigrants from foreign countries. The Indian community in the UAE, numbering 2.6 million, constitutes 30% of the total population and is the largest expatriate community in the country.
Yousef Saeed Al Abri, undersecretary of the ADJD, said the adoption of multilingual interactive forms for claim sheets, grievances and requests, aims to promote judicial services in line with the plan Tomorrow 2021, and increase the transparency of litigation procedures.
“This is in addition to facilitating registration procedures to the public through simplified and easy forms and raising litigants’ legal awareness via interactive forms of the statements of claims, to ensure access to the legal materials related to the subject of the dispute,” Al Abri was quoted as saying by the Khaleej Times.
He indicated that the extension of the adoption of interactive forms in several languages comes under the directives of Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs and ADJD Chairman.
Al Abri explained that the adoption of new languages comes as part of the bilingual litigation system, the first phase of which was launched in November 2018, through the adoption of procedures requiring the plaintiffs to translate the case documents in civil and commercial lawsuits into English, if the defendant is a foreigner.

“The foreign investor receives the case files translated, thus contributing to the provision of a global judicial service that meets the requirements of residents in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi,” he added.

US and FATF pressure led to the arrest of Hafiz Sayeed in Pakistan

Pakistan is badly baffled and furious after its defeat in the International Court of Justice in Hague, Netherland, where 15 out of total 16 judges have accepted India’s pleas in Kulbhushan Jadav’s matter and rejected Pakistan’s contentions.
The court held Pakistan responsible for several deliberate breaches of international Vienna conventions and reprimanded it for not granting Kulbhushan Yadav consular access. ICJ also reprimanded Pakistan for not informing India while arresting Kulbhushan on the frivolous charges of spying. They also questioned the death sentence awarded to Jadhav by a Pakistan court, etc.
Despite now being in a defensive position after the ICJ verdict,  Pakistan is rather trying to misuse its media by claiming its victory instead of a clear cut defeat at ICJ.
All of Pakistan’s channels are showing news fully laced with falsity about the victory of Pak in ICJ, thus misguiding its countrymen.
After the ICJ’s judgment reprimanded Pakistan, Pak’s PM Imran Khan tweeted the following and took credit of its so-called victory in ICJ:
‘Appreciate ICJ’s decision not to acquit, release and return Commander Kulbhushan Jadhav to India. He is guilty of crimes against the people of Pakistan. Pakistan shall proceed further as per law.’
Meanwhile, it has again  enacted another drama to bring to the world’s notice the arrest of Jamat Ul Dawa chief and international terrorist Hafiz Sayeed, to not only misguide the United Nations and the member countries but to also impress upon the Financial Action Task Force of UN and US President Donald Trump as to how seriously it’s honoring the US directives to curb terrorism and arrest hardcore terrorists on its land.
There is a bounty of 10 million US dollars on the head of Hafiz Sayeez for arresting him dead or alive imposed by the United States of America.
He is not only responsible for 26/11 Mumbai attacks which claimed 161 innocent lives but along with Azhar Mehmood is also the chief culprit of Pulwama massacre, both dreaded international killers on US’s most wanted list.
After the news of Hafeez Sayeed’s arrest reached US President Donald Trump, he tweeted:
‘After a ten-year search, the so-called mastermind of Mumbai Terror Attacks has been arrested in Pakistan. Great pressure had been exerted over the last two years to find him.’
Sources reveal that Pakistan prime minister Imran Khan has enacted this drama just two days before his US visit to impress upon the American president about Pakistan’s seriousness to deal with terror with a heavy hand as directed by the US.
Moreover, since Pakistan’s economy is in extremely bad shape and the country is banking on massive loans from the World and Asian Development Banks, if it does not act on the directions of FATF and puts hardcore terrorists like Masood Azhar and Hafiz behind bars it would be denied financial aid from these international banks and US. Without these financial aids, Pakistan’s economy will be badly crippled.
The Indian external affairs spokesman Ravish Kumar has meanwhile termed Hafiz Sayeed’s arrest in Pakistan as a mere cover-up to misguide the United Nations and the US. He has stated that Pakistan is trying to misguide all the nations by showing that it is now serious towards curbing terrorism with a heavy hand.
He unambiguously said that till Pakistan does not eradicate terrorism and terror sanctuaries from its soil inch by inch, India will never have any deliberations with Pakistan.

Pakistan’s ill concieved design to smuggle drugs to India to fund terror

The drug menace in India is a protracted problem which has percolated down to the grassroots destroying the younger generation irrespective of class and categories of the society.
There was the time when drug consumption was allegedly considered to be the forte of the affluents and the rich children through expensive rave parties in hotels but today it has percolated down in the children and youth of the lowest ebb of the society spoiling the health and career of the children and the youths of the country.
Punjab being the border state of Pakistan had been the worst sufferer during the last three decades where smuggling of narcotics/drugs from neighboring Pakistan has not only made the domestic smugglers highly rich and affluent but has also spoiled the majority of the young generation by way of making them horrible victims of this dreaded menace, further leading to enhancement in crimes, mortality rate and spoiling of myriad families.
The drug menace in Punjab is so extensive that even names of politicians involved in this rapid money making drug syndicate have come to the fore.
The local police, politicians and drug syndicates’ alleged nexus has further spread the tentacles of narcotics smuggling in Punjab ultimately leading to the spoiling of families and future of the nation, the youths.
A full-fledged feature film titled UDTA PUNJAB was made by Bollywood highlighting the lavish drug trade of Punjab and subsequent spoiling of myriad families due to this dreaded menace.
The worst phenomena about the drug trade are, it also accompanies terrorism with it, as the massive money earned through the smuggling of drugs, especially its finest form Heroine, which fetches a whopping Rs. one crore for a kilogram in the international market is clandestinely used to fund terrorist activities in the country by way of purchasing and acquiring illegal arms to kill innocents and the law enforcing agencies personnel behind them like the police, paramilitary and the Army troopers and the officers.
A report by senior journalist Shishir Gupta in HT highlights the investigative details about increasing activities of Pakistan’s drug smugglers in India whose primary aim is to fund terror activities in India through the handsome earning from drugs smuggling.
According to the news report, Pakistan’s ISI has strengthened its drug smuggling activities to pump them in India through three countries viz Maldives, Sri Lanka, and India Coast guard.
These drug smuggling syndicates of Pakistan in league with the ISI are resorting to massive narcotics smuggling to fund terror activities in Pakistan says his report.
To substantiate this contention there was a major haul of 50 kg of heroine from a Pakistani boat in Sri Lankan Coast Guard on Indian authorities’ input in the nation’s exclusive economic zone on July 10th.
Similarly, on May 21st the Indian Coast Guard seized 218 kilograms of Heroine from a Karachi registered Pakistani shipping boat AL MADIA of Jakhua in Kuch districts of Gujarat.
In all 6 crew members were arrested with 194 packets of heroine smuggled from Karachi Pakistan.
Sr. journalist Shishir Gupta’s report further mentions that around the same time the Maldivian police seized an Iranian boat with Pakistani national on board on May 26 with a large quantity of drugs.
In Gujarat seizure though the boat was set ablaze by the Pakistani smugglers, the intelligence reports revealed that the consignment was handed over by the Pakistani agent Hamid Malik to boat captain Mohammed Aslam to be delivered to a Mumbai resident Badruddin Shiekh.
The report further reveals that the role of narcotics smuggling from Pakistan to India and its use in funding terrorists in India was first revealed by the Laskare Tayyeba terrorist of US origin David Colemen Headly while being interrogated in 2010 for his direct involvement in the deadly Mumbai attack on 26/11 diabolically killing 161 innocents including a senior police officer Hemant Karkare.
This is a new strategy adopted by the ISI to smuggle a massive quantity of drugs in India worth hundreds n thousands of crores through Maldives and Srilanka in order to fund terror misadventures in India.
The total cost of the earlier seizures of drugs amounts in hundreds of crores as per the rates in international markets.
Similarly, as per another report of journalist Anil Sharma, the border village of Punjab just few hundred meters near the Pakistan border quite infamous for massive heroine smuggling from across the border has till now 106 cases of drugs smuggling against 48 families under the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Act least worried for stringent jail terms.
Located at the stone’s throw from the Indo Pak border’s barbed wire fence and merely forty kilometers from the district headquarters, Havelian village had been in the news after the custom authorities at the Attari check post found 532 Kg of Heroine and 52 Kg of mixed narcotics concealed in the consignment of rock salt from Pakistan on June 29th.
The total cost of this consignment if sold in the international market would be whopping 570 crores or more.
Except for 6 to 8 families of Havelian village in Taran Taran, all of them are allegedly involved in drug smuggling making an easy buck.
About 20 families in the wanted list after earning handsomely in this trade had shifted elsewhere like Amritsar, leaving their lands barren.
This village has become the main conduit for smuggling heroin since the last four decades as per Anil Sharma’s report in HT having started opium smuggling after partition on a low key.

Pakistan misguides the entire world by banning Jamait Ul Dava. Gives free hand to Army n protects Azhar n Hafeez Sayeed.

A lier PM of a coward nation
The so called decision of the Pakistan government to ban the terror organisation Jamaat UL Dawa and one more led by international terrorist Hafiz Sayeed responsible for the Mumbai attack that killed 161 innocents is nothing but just a cover up to show the world countries that the new political dispensation in Pakistan is serious to curb terrorism n terror sanctuaries on its soil. The government of India n the US government after capturing Headley has delivered Pakistan enough proofs but inspite all this Hafiz Sayeed n Masood Azhar are roaming freely in Pakistan n delivering hate speeches issuing venemous statements against India including engineering deadliest fidayeen attacks like Pulwama etc.

While on the one hand after so much of international pressure and insult of Pakistan in UN and amongst the various nations of the globe not only is the coward Pakistan n its PM Imran Khan is asking for evidence shamelessly but has also given free hand to Pakistan Army to carry on misadventures aganst India. The Laskare Tayyebba n Jamaat Ul Dawa chief Hafeez Sayeed runs three hundred madrasas in Pakistan and generates funds in crores from gulf countries of the world which are literary the terror factories in the making.

The open statements of cowards Jaish E Mohammed chief Azhar Masood n LET head Hafiz Sayeed to destroy India to the core come what may are ample proofs of Pakistan Army’s and ISI’s complete patronage and blessings to these hard core terrorists n the terror sanctuaries flourishing on the Pakistan soil.

The entire world knows unambiguously that after the occurance of the tragic n most despicable Pulwama attack which martytred more than 40 troopers of CRPF, it was the Pakistan headquartered Jaish E Mohammed terror outfit which took the responsibility for this deadliest blast. Then where does the Question of giving proof to Pakistan is concerned ?

But instead of officially banning of the hard core terror organisations like LET n JEM n putting their chiefs on trial n detention the Pakistan premier diplomatically announces ban on just Jamait Ul Dawa which was the US demand since long and instead gives both these hardcore terrorists protection with special intructions of free hand to Pak Army to continue n carry the misadventures against India which unambiguously indicate that it will continue to sneak in terrorists in side Indian soil, carry on its anti India misadventures and continue to breach border pact despite 1800 previous LOC violations. Pakistan Army, ISI and its sponsored terror outfits n their chiefs Masood Azhar n Hafiz Sayeed are badly rattled n disturbed as the Indian Army has brutally killed Azhar Masood’s terrorist nephew n about 248 hard core home grown n Pak sponsored militants during the last three, four years and the trend is continued unabatedly.

There are still 57 terrorists left in South Kashmir who have shifted to their clandestine safe hide outs due to Army’s reprisals. The massive flushing out of terrorists’ operation of Indian Army n CRPF has created a huge terror n fear psychosis in the minds of the DEHSHATGARDS. Their days seemed to be numbered.

The government has withdrawn security cover earlier given to the Hurriyat leaders who are the Pak proxies. The Indian army n the J&K police have now established tremendous cordination n are doing their best to make Kashmir terror free. The recent statement of the Kashmir Chinab Corps chief Lt general KS Dhillon warning mothers to mend their sons prohibiting them not to pick guns but instead surrender failing which they’ll be eliminated speaks of the clear fact that now the India army in Kashmir is in no mood to relent.

Meanwhile Pakistan has been totally isolated in the United Nations. The UN today passed a resolution strongly condemning the Pulwama attack n the incessant terror killings in Kashmir at the behest of Pakistan. The resolution warned pak n its various terror outfits to give up their terror oriented activities. Even China stood with India for the first time in signing the resolution.

The countries like France, US, Argentina, UK, Germany n the Europeon Union have already assured India of their full fledged n outright support in countering terrorism worldwide n against Pakistan. They are bringing resolution in UN to include Azhar Masood in the UN terrorists list n to declare Pakistan a terror state.

Pak badly frustrated after US, France and United Kingdom come to India’s rescue against the terror sponsoring nation PAK

India has won diplomatically at the global level against Pakistan. The three countries of the world, super power United States of America, France and England have credibly stood in favour of India and against Pakistan by supporting India’s anti Pakistan stance and move a resolution in the United Nation’s demanding declaration of brutal n obnoxious Jaish chief as international terrorist in the UN list n pronouncing Pak a terrorist state responsible for engineering umpteen despicable murderous attacks in the Indian soil on several ocassions. This is a huge setback to coward Pakistan n its cricketeer turned flamboyant PM Imran Khan.

This is the right, opportune and most apt time for the world communities especially the western nations n the Europeon union to come forward to help n support India in their fight against global terrorism.

The entire world n humanity has already suffered tremendously at the hands of these divisive, reactionery n murdurous forces who’ve wrecked havoc in the entire global scenerio and India seems to be worst victim of this despicable murdurous n destructive trend at the hands of Pakistan who’d since decades been harbouring, aiding and abetting the terror sanctuaries, killing unfinite number of people within n outside Pakistan despite warnings from US n the peace loving countries.

It’s really shocking that even the United Nations have not been successful in its efforts to declare Pakistan as a hardcore terrorist state despite it’s unambiguous involvement in the US twin Tower attack, Mumbai attack, Pathan Kot attack and hundreds of other misadventures in strife torn Kashmir resulting in the most abominable unprovoked killings of innocent civilians n the army troopers making thousands of children fatherless n mothers widow.

There have been about 1800 or more cross border violations by Pakistan of the Indo Pak peace accord and shockingly over 80 thousand civilians, troopers n extremists have been killed in Kashmir during the last three decades.

There have been several instances of decapitating the heads of Indian Army soldiers at the LOC and Pak sponsored terror blasts in various parts of Kashmir n India.

The Pakistan Army, its ISI n the political dispensation are in league to ensure that India is destabilised from all angles having lost all wars fought with India till date.

The Chinese government is the one that is fully backing bankrupt Pakistan against India n had till date opposed the India’s entry into the elite Nucleur suppliers group as well as India’s every initiative to declare Azar Mehmood as the International terrorist in the UN list.

Entire world knows that the major culprit of 1992/ 94 Mumbai Bomb Blast mastermind Davood Ibrahim is in Karachi being protected by the ISI.

Who does not know that LET chief n mastermind of twin tower attack in US n Mumbai that killed about 6000 innocents obnoxious Hafiz is in Islamabad, Pakistan.

Are people n politicians of the world not aware that Jaish E Mohammed’s chief Azar Masood the mastermind of Pulwama attack n several other attacks in Kashmir lives is Bhawalpur, Rawal Pindi in Pakistan under full police protection.

Who does not know that Burhan Wani killed by Indian Army was the LET n Jaish’s proxy who killed hundreds of innocents in Kashmir and on who’s honour the govt of Pakistan released a postage stamp giving him an honourable status of a martyr.

Is it not true that after the dastardly killing of 41 CRPF troopers in Pulwama, Kashmir the Jaish chief Azhar Masood himself claimed the responsibility of the Avantipora massacre.

There are hundreds of well established proofs with America n India n the UN is still not able to declare Pak as the terrorist state n catch hold of these two dreaded terrorists masterminding terror operations n killing myriad number of innocents worldwide .

Time has arrived when all the peace loving countries of the world should sideline China n Pakistan in the global scenerio and apply sanctions against it including carrying out of flushing operations to arrest Hafiz Sayeed n Azhar Masood out of the Pak territory dead or alive. This is the only n most relevant solution to give a formidable stop to terrorism in Asia n the world. What’s your take friends?

Kulbhushan Jadhav case: India-Pakistan set to face-off in ICJ

India and Pakistan are set for a showdown at the International Court of Justice which will commence on Monday a four-day public hearing in the case of Indian national Kulbhushan Jadhav sentenced to death by a Pakistani military court on charges of espionage.

India moved the ICJ in May in 2017 against the “farcical trial” by the military court of Pakistan against 48-year-old Jadhav. Jadhav, a retired Indian Navy officer, was sentenced to death by a Pakistani military court on charges of espionage and terrorism in April 2017. India first approached the ICJ on May 8, 2017 for the “egregious violation” of the provisions of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, 1963 by Pakistan by repeatedly denying it consular access to Jadhav.

A 10-member bench of the ICJ, which was set up after World War II to resolve international disputes, on May 18, 2017 had restrained Pakistan from executing Jadhav till adjudication of the case. The ICJ has set a timetable for the public hearing in the high-profile case from Febraury 18 to 21 at the Peace Palace in The Hague, the Netherlands. While India will argue first on February 18, Pakistan will get its chance to make submissions on February 19. Then India will reply on February 20 while Islamabad will make its closing submissions on February 21.

It is expected that the ICJ’s decision may be delivered by the summer of 2019.While maintaining that India remains committed to make all possible efforts to secure and protect the rights of Jadhav, the spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs Raveesh Kumar did not make public New Delhi would take at The Hague.”India will present its case before the court. Since the matter is sub judice it is not appropriate for me to state our position in public. Whatever we have to do, we will do at the court,” Kumar said last week in New Delhi in response to a question.

Pakistan’s Attorney General Anwar Mansoor would lead the Pakistani delegation at the ICJ while Director General South Asia Mohammad Faisal would lead the Foreign Office side.Ahead of the hearing, a senior Pakistani official said that his country is committed to implement the decision of the ICJ in the Jadhav case.”We are fully prepared with our strongest evidence being the valid Indian passport recovered from Commander Jadhav with a Muslim name,” the official said.

Both India and Pakistan have already submitted their detailed pleas and responses in the world court.Pakistan claims that its security forces arrested Jadhav from restive Balochistan province on March 3, 2016 after he reportedly entered from Iran. However, India maintains that Jadhav was kidnapped from Iran where he had business interests after retiring from the Navy. Jadhav’s sentencing had evoked a sharp reaction in India.

Pakistan had rejected India’s plea for consular access to Jadhav at the ICJ, claiming that New Delhi wants the access to get the information gathered by its “spy”.However, Pakistan facilitated a meeting of Jadhav with his mother and wife in Islamabad on December 25, 2017.The hearings at the ICJ is taking place four days after one of the worst terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir that killed 41 CRPF soldiers. The terror attack happened when a suicide bomber of Pakistan-backed Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) blew up an explosive-laden vehicle near a convoy of CRPF buses in Pulwama district on Thursday.

Pakistan’s support to terror and its involvement in Pulwama attack last week will the focus of discussion as Saudi Arabia’s crown prince Mohammad bin Salman visits India.
He will be on a two-day India visit starting on February 19 and ending on February 20.
Remember Riyadh bailed out Islamabad last year financially. Riyadh can tighten the purse strings for Islamabad if it doesn’t rein in terror. The Prince will be coming to Delhi after his visit to Pakistan.

During his visit, he will be calling on President Ram Nath Kovind and have bilateral talks with Prime Minister Modi.
This will be Mohammad bin Salman’s second meet with PM Modi in a span of three months. They last met on November 29 in Argentina on the sidelines of G20 summit.
“One the issues which could come up for discussion are trade and investment, defense, security including counter-terrorism is another. Renewable energy which is something that is coming up as an important area of cooperation,” Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said in his weekly briefing last week.
Modi had also visited Riyadh in April of 2016. During the visit, Salman had honoured the PM with “Sash of King Abdulaziz”, the highest civilian decoration awarded by the West Asian country.
Saudi Arabia is the fourth largest trading partner of India after China, US, and Japan. India imports 17 per cent of its crude oil requirement from the kingdom. The bilateral trade between India and Saudi Arabia stood at $27.48 billion in FY 2017-18, a year on year increase of 9.56 per cent.
Raveesh Kumar said, “The objective is to consolidate the strategic partnership which we have with the country.”
The crown prince is the second most important person, after the king and designated successor, in one of the largest oil producer nations of the world.
In April 2018, Saudi Aramco, the largest company in the world by revenue, signed an MoU with an Indian consortium (IOC, HPCL & BPCL) to acquire 50 per cent stake in India’s largest refinery project ‘Ratnagiri Refinery & Petrochemicals Limited’ at $ 44 billion.
A 2.7 million strong Indian community is in Saudi Arabia. Haj pilgrimage is an important component of bilateral relations.

US-Bangla plane crash in Nepal that killed 51 was caused by pilot smoking in cockpit

The US-Bangla airline Bombardier UBG-211 crash that occurred in March last year took place as the pilot who was in charge of the flight had smoked inside the cockpit despite restrictions, authorities confirmed on Sunday.

“The company has a policy of ‘No Smoking’ in all the flights, domestic as well as international. The PIC (pilot in command) was a smoker as per information received by the commission. The commission concluded from CVR (cockpit voice recorder) record that PIC smoked in the cockpit during this flight. However, the operation department and other authorities may not have been sure about this safety violation by the PIC during flight,” the Accident Investigation Commission formed to probe the reasons behind the crash of the airline stated in a statement.

The report clarified that only tobacco was used during the flight duration and ruled out the use of any other sort of banned assorted items consumed during the flight time.

“The Accident Investigation Commission determines that the probable cause of the accident is due to disorientation and a complete loss of situational awareness in the part of the crew member,” the investigation committee said.

As many as 51 people lost their lives when the aircraft crashed immediately after landing on Nepal’s Tribhuwan International Airport (TIA). The reports were published later after the investigation commission submitted it to the Nepali Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation.

“The Accident Investigation Commission determines that the probable cause of the accident is due to disorientation and a complete loss of situational awareness in the part of the crew member. Contributing to this the aircraft was offset to the proper approach path that led to maneuvers in a very dangerous and unsafe attitude to align with the runway. The landing was completed in sheer desperation after sighting the runway, at very close proximity and very low altitude. There was no attempt made to carry out a go-around when a go-around seemed possible until the last instant before touchdown on the runway,” the statement read.

The post-mortem of the deceased, performed in the Department of Forensic Medicine in Kathmandu, found “blunt force injury head” to be the reason for the death of the passengers.

The report has pointed to the human discretion and the natural factor that contributed to the downing of the aircraft.

“The aircraft failed to approach the runway in proper touchdown attitude; given that the aircraft attempted touchdown in extreme attitudes, the flight crew followed a non-prescribed procedure and that the situation was further complicated by prevailing westerly crosswind conditions at Kathmandu (VNKT), the aircraft departed the runway surface towards the southeasterly direction,” the committee said.

Further adding, the report also blamed the control tower of the TIA and the crew for the mishap.

“The Cockpit Voice Recorder data revealed some confusion in communication within the terminal area between the crew and the air traffic controller (VNKT Tower) regarding intentions of the flight crew and clearances for runways 02 and 20. Some of the weakness on Air Traffic parts like poor monitoring the aircraft visually after giving landing clearance for RWY 02, confusion on issuing the instruction for a go-around through the ATC alerted the crew that the aircraft was proceeding towards runway 20 even the landing clearance was given for runway 02,” the reports found.

On March 12 last year, the US Bangla Airlines while operating a scheduled passenger flight crashed about 442 meters southeast of the touchdown point of runway 20.

All four crew members of the airline, including two cockpit crew and two cabin crew, along with 45 passengers out of the total 67 aboard were killed during the accident. Two more passengers succumbed to injury later in the hospital during the course of treatment. The aircraft was destroyed by impact forces and a post-crash fire

Nepal’s Central bank announces ban of Indian notes above Rs 100

Nepal’s central bank has banned the use of Indian currency notes of Rs 2,000, Rs 500 and Rs 200 denominations, a move that could affect Indian tourists visiting the Himalayan nation where Indian currency is widely used.

Nepal Rastra Bank on Sunday issued a circular prohibiting Nepali travellers, banks and financial institutions from holding or carrying and trading Indian bank notes higher than Rs 100, the Kathmandu Post reported.

The central bank said in its circular letter that Indian currency of 200, 500 and 2,000 denominations cannot be carried and used for trading, it said, Under the new regulation, Nepali citizens cannot carry these denominations to countries other than India. Similarly, Nepalis are also not allowed to bring such notes from other countries. Indian notes of 100 or below, however, are allowed for trading and conversion, the bank’s circular reads.

On December 13, the Cabinet had decided to publish the notification in the Nepal Gazette not to allow people to carry Indian currency notes above 100 denominations in Nepal.

The ban has been criticised by travel traders and entrepreneurs, saying that it would hurt the country’s burgeoning tourism at a time when the government has announced ‘Visit

Nepal’ campaign with an objective to draw at least 2 million tourists in 2020.

Since a majority of Indians come to Nepal over land from bordering towns, it is difficult for them to convert their currency to dollar or Euro, they said.

The overland Indian visitors’ survey showed that 1.2 million Indians came to Nepal through the surface route while 160,132 travelled via air. The average length of stay of Indian tourists coming overland was 5.8 days. Average expenditure per visitor was as much as Rs 11,310, the paper said.

The Indian government introduced new banknotes of Rs 2,000, Rs 500 and Rs 200 denominations after the demonetisation of old notes worth Rs 500 and 1,000 in 2016.

However, the move hit countries such as Nepal and Bhutan where Indian currency is widely used.

Nepal Premier K P Sharma Oli said earlier this year that demonetisation hurt the Nepalese people and added that he would raise the matter with Indian leaders.

People have been using the new Indian currency in Nepal for nearly two years now.
