The killings of human beings by maneater tigers in Uttarakhand are going unabatedly despite the preventive measures and claims of the forest department and its officials that the predator killings have receded to some extent. In Uttarakhand the maneater tigers are considered to be the nocturnal predators who hunt human beings during the night.

During the last few months the dreaded incidents of maneater attacks have increased manifold and good number of men, women and children have lost their lives.

In Uttarakhand as written several times, the maneater tigers and leopards have become so active that those living in villages near the forests or on roadsides or at isolated places are their easy prey and there had been cases where the maneaters have literally grabbed the children from their house and carried the injured victims several metres away in the near by forest to finally eat the bodies.

In several incidents the entire face, the abdomen or the thighs have been eaten and the badly mutilated body left in jungles by these maneaters.

The forest department could do very little to rescue the vicims as not only are they, not fully trained to capture these man eaters nor do they posses enough equipments like tranquiliser guns etc to catch them.

Just last month the forest department had to hire a private professional hunter in the Kumaon division to kill a maneater who had killed several children in Manila and the nearby areas.

There had been instances when these maneaters have even entered the populated areas in Dehradun taking refuge in a house thus terrorising the people in the locality.

According to a latest news from Raivala, near Dehradun the CCTV camera has captured an incident of a maneater tiger attack killing a young boy near the forest post Khaandgaon in the Raaivala area of Uttarakhand on Wednesday.

A maneater was recently killed by the professional hunters in the Rajaji Tiger Reserve forest area but despite this, the killings are not receding.

According to the picture trapped in the CCTV camera installed in the Rajaji Park Area by the forest officials, a maneater has killed a young man on Wednesday near the KHAAND VILLAGE.

The forest officials were as usual observing the CCTV footage when they noticed this deadly incident.

According to the footage, a youngman was seen going towards the forest near the displaced Khaand gaon via the forest motor road.

Feeling suspicion and apprehensive of some wrong doing, the forest officials started combing the forest area nearby.

The officials found the dead and highly mutilated body of the victim in the nearby jungle of the forest motor road near the Khaand village.

The information was passed on to the Raivala police station as per the news by the range official Vikas Rawat.

The police officials after searching the deceased’s body revealed that his name was Shahid a resident of Bihar.

According to Rawat the body of the dead Shahid bore deep wounds of the tiger’s pawns/ claws and the dead body was half eaten.

It is believed that he might be one of the labourers who must be going to his house after being relieved from duty and the maneater attacked him.

It may be recalled that the maneater tigers are quite active in the Raivala area, near Dehradun for a long time.

About twenty one people have so far been killed by these maneaters during the last four years.

As per the report on 16th April one Tekchand from Haryana was killed at Satyanarayan, while on 9th May a woman named Sampati while walking, on 21st a man sleeping on the roof at Khaand Gaon namely Kala Singh, on 14th June a 4 year old girl Nirjala at Thakurpur village and on 10th July Surat Singh of Vaidik Nagar were killed by these man eater tigers.

After lots of complaints and increasing attacks of these maneaters the Rajaji Park authorities had sought permission from the government n the court and got a maneater killed on 11th July but the attacks n killings are still on.
