Putting Pressure over Whatsapp

Published

on

European Union has come down harshly over privacy concerns for users of popular social media platform WhatsApp. This came in wake of WhatsApp not resolving the concerned authorities’ concerns over the popular apps’ sharing of user data with its parent company Facebook, even a year after it was first issued a warning.

WhatsApp has hit strides in India, becoming the most popular messaging app, partially due to its simple user interface and its end to end secure encryption. WhatsApp changed its privacy policy in mid last year and started sharing users’ phone numbers and their other information of personal nature with Facebook without a proper memo that informs the users of this face. This act drew widespread criticism and regulatory scrutiny across Europe and Asia, and WhatsApp for a time suspended the data sharing for EU users only. Asia still lags behind when dealing with issues concerning cyber security and privacy.

EU data protection authorities, however, taking strict actions, said in a letter, sent to WhatsApp on Tuesday 24th Oct and published on Wednesday, that the company had still not resolved their concerns about sharing user data without their prior consent.

The authorities have noted that the information given to users about the privacy policy update by WhatsApp was highly ambiguous and seriously deficient considering it was related to getting their consent.

The Authorities noted that while there is a balance to be found and regualted between presenting the user with too much of the information and not enough information, the initial alert made no mention at all of the crucial information users needed. They were unable to make an informed choice, and simply clicked the agree button that resulted in their personal data being shared with the company of Whatsapp, i.e. Facebook and its family. This information can be now shared with other partner websites and can be used to present the users with targeted advertisements.

The data protection authority of Ireland, which has final jurisdiction over Facebook in the European Union because the company has its European headquarters in Dublin, said that in April it had hoped to reach a deal over the issue of data sharing with WhatsApp and the partner websites. A WhatsApp spokesperson said that, they have engaged previously with other data protection authorities to explain how their terms and privacy policy update applies to those people who use WhatsApp in Europe. They also said that they remain committed to respecting the applicable law and will continue to work with concerned officials in Europe to address the questions over privacy.

The data protection authorities also raised concern over the argument of users’ consent not being given as freely as WhatsApp claimed. WhatsApp had effectively adopted a ‘take it or leave it approach.’ This ends in users either giving their `consent’ to the sharing of their data or they are from then on unable to avail themselves of WhatsApp’s messaging services.

A new European Union data protection law will come in force in May 2018, which will give regulators the power to fine companies up to 4% of their global turnover for violating the cyber privacy laws.

What we need in India and other Asian countries is a similar outcry for cyber privacy and enactment of strict laws to protect the interests of users on a regular basis.

Had Tom been alive he would have been of 68 years by now ! Heartfelt Tributes

Published

on

Tom Alter was one of the best and most celebrated actors’ of Bollywood having outstandingly acted in multifarious roles during his career spanning more than four decades in over 350 films.

A versatile actor, par excellence, born on 22nd June 1950 in Mussourie, Garhwal, Uttarakhand, today is Tom Alter’s 68th Birth Anniversary. Had Tom been Alive today he would have been 68 years old. Left for his eternal home just last year on 27th September 2017 having uncurable skin cancer in Mumbai, leaving his huge fan following in anguish, Tom was an exceptional actor having tremendous knowlege of Urdu, hindi and english apart from Garhwali.

It really sounds different and surprising that a man born to the english parents though in India, having the American past, is so extraordinarily well versed in Urdu, Hindi and even a local Garhwali dialect apart from English which was his DNA Tom considered himself to be an Indian than an individual with an English or American background.

An actor par excellence having been highly influenced and inspired by the then Super Star of the seventies after having watched his super duper hit film thrice or five times Tom Alter who usually watched English Hollywood movies, finally gave up teaching at the age of 19 and left for Pune to seek addmission in prestigious FTII where he studied acting under his teacher one Mr. Taneja alongwith Nasruddin Shah, Benjamin Gilani etc and got his first role in Bollywood silver screen in 1972 never to look back again.

A die hard fan of the legendary super star Tom Alter’s grand parents were missioneries who came to Lahore in 1920 from Ohio, US and after partition in 1947, while his grand parents stayed back in Pakistan, his parents migrated to India.

Tom’s father who was highly academic taught English and literateur at Allahabad after first settling at Saharanpur and then at Rajpur Road Dehradun.

At the age of mere 19 his father arranged a job of a teacher for Tom in Jagadhari, Yamuna Nagar, Haryana where he taught English at St Mary school.

He was born in Mussourie where he studied till higher secondary and went to one of the best American universities YALE for higher studies.

But destiny had something else stored for him in India and he came back to Mussourie just after a year to join as a teacher in Jagadhiri, Haryana which opened doors of his Bollywood entry, after he watched ARADHANA THRICE having been highly influenced by KAKA’S outstanding histrionics.

As a Kaka fan himself Tom Alter has worked with the Superstar in 3 films NAUKRI 1978; KUDRAT 1981 & JAANWAR 1983 … A die-hard Rajesh Khanna fan,Tom said in a interview-“The first morning of the shoot of Naukri, in Bangalore, I have been told to report in the lobby of the Ashoka Hotel by 9 in the morning. I was there by 8:45. I stood at the entrance, looking out on the gardens.” Rajesh Khanna descended the stairs,& walked up to me, crinkled his eyes,& said “Mujhe Rajesh Khanna kahte hain.” I went with him in the car to the park which was our location, & at lunch time I took my food into a corner under a tree,He came up to me & asked “Tum film on mein kyon aaye?”…The answer came from my heart – “Aap ki wajah se”..As simple as that, as true as that.!!!!!!!!

In the interview Tom shared how he used to come all the way from Mussoorie to catch up with first day first show of RK films at Regal Cinema in Connaught Place. “We saw Anand, Dushman and Amar Prem by buying tickets in black for the first day first show,” he laughs ..“After I had watched Aradhana several times I decided to get into films. It was the era of Rajesh Khanna. I decided that I wanted to be a part of this magical world of Hindi films and got admitted in FTII & graduated in 1974.” “I still dream of being Rajesh Khanna. For me, no film in Hindi cinema comes close to Anand. In the early 1970s, He was the only hero — romantic to the core, not larger than life, so Indian and real — He was my hero; the reason I came into films and He still is.” Tom concluded

A famous cricketeer during his school days in Mussourie, Tom never had the slightest of an idea that he would ever be an actor par excellence in the future and that too of Hindi silver screen having no interest whatsoever, to watch hindi movies, earlier. He was the first person to have interviewed cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar at a mere age of 16 when he made his first debut century.

Tom’s parents were extremely God fearing who’d established an Ashram at Rajpura Road to help the poor, under privileged and the needy. His entire family including his mother, father , uncle, grandfather were missioneries and served the church but were great secularists as was Tom. Even his elder brother became father in a Church at the age of 70 but Tom Alter was an exception who had special penchant for acting after having been overtly influenced by the histrionics of the super star of the seventies Rajesh Khanna aka KAKA.

Considering himself to be the most luckiest man to have born and lived in the heaven on earth Mussourie Tom Alter initially got the roles of the Englishman in Hindi films due to his fair colour and personality but later on did all kinds of roles.

Senior to the most popular actor Nasirruddin Shah in FTII Pune, Tom Alter played the unique role of Dr. Abdul Kalam in a Rajya Sabha TV serial and the roles of Gandhi, Nehru, Sahil ludhianvi, n other prominent freedom fighters etc in number of popular theatre plays.

A multifaceted and multi dimensional legendary icon Tom spoke Urdu with such a great fluency and precision that no other actor in Bollywood would have such a perfection. Having acted in over 350 films and scores of pivotal roles in Indian theatre in such a short span of four and a half decades as compared to other actors Tom Alter was a real asset for the Indian Film Industry.

His passing away from our midst at such normal age of merely 67 years when he still looked so young, energetic and enthusiatic towards acting his untimely loss will be felt forever not only in the film fraternity but also in the entire Indian fraternity amongst the billions of his fans who loved and adored him so infinitely and beyond limits. good bye Tom. Your creative acting and humanism will guide your unlimited fans forever. AMEN.

One more sacrifice of a valiant young trooper of Rudraprayag in J&K who killed two militants

Published

on

The Pak sponsored terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir has taken one more toll of a brave young army trooper who laid down his precious life while valiantly fighting the terrorists in Bandipura, Kashmir after killing two hardended militants during the protracted encounter that lasted for several hours.

Originally hailing from the KAVILTHA VILLAGE of Kaalimath Valley under the jurisdiction of Rudraprayag district of Garhwal himalayas youthful son of Narendra Singh Rawat, Manvendra Singh laid down his precious life while fighting the hardcore Pakistan sponsered terrorists in the BAANDIPURA sector of Jammu & Kashmir two days ago.

Kalimath valley of Rudraprayag district is famous for sending maximum numbers of brave young men to Indian Army in order to serve the nation and safeguarding our porous borders. This valley has in the past too witnessed number of young sacrifices in the Army positions in the line of duty during military operations fighting the hardcore terrorists as well as in the wars against China and Pakistan.

According to the uncle of the deceased trooper Manvendra Singh, the sad and shocking news of the death of the young trooper in action in Bandipura, J& K has send a shock wave in the entire valley of Kalimath, Rudraprayag, Garhwal, Uttarakhand.

Late Manvendra Singh left behind his old parents, two children and his better half who were living in Dehradun. At present his family was in his ancestral village Kaviltha to enjoy the summer vacations where they acknowledged this traumatic anguishing news.

The entire family in shock. The coffin of this patriotic valiant soldier would be brought to his village tomorrow on 15th, June where he would be given the last farewell amidst the presence of Army officers, his old traumatic parents, family and the nearby villagers including the entire populace of the valley with full Army honours.

It may be recalled that two days ago some fully armed Pak sponsored militans had entered the Baandipura sector and started firing incessantly. The army retaliated heavily and took suitable positions.

During this hectic firing which went on for several hours Manvendra Rawat alongwith his fellow trooper succeeded in killing two militants but in the meanwhile he too was killed by one shot of the terrorists stationed on the other side. The operation continued but the miitants fled leaving the dead bodies on the spot.

The nation is proud of the selfless sacrifice of Manvendra Rawat who killed two hardcore militants before falling to their bullets and sacrificing himself at such a young age.

If we go by the HT report of 2016 there have been 42% more terrorism-related deaths in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) since the Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party government (BJP) came to power in May 2014, compared with the last three years of the second term of the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA-II).

The number of security personnel killed in terrorist violence has increased 72% from 111 in the last three years of UPA-II to 191 in the BJP’s first three years, an IndiaSpend analysis of data compiled by the South Asia Terrorism Portal (SATP), run by New Delhi-based non-profit Institute for Conflict Management, shows. The SATP compiles data on fatalities from terrorism from media reports. The data are provisional and compiled as on May 24, 2017.

Since 1994 till 2016 about 64865 civilians, security force personels and militants have been killed ( latest casualties not added). If we bifurcate the figures the civilian casualties come to about 25000, terrorists killed account for 30476 numbers and about ten thousand security personels.

A brave woman who fought the maneater should be recommended for president’s bravery award

Published

on

There is a news about a very brave woman of Srinagar Garhwal’s Gahard village namely Mamta Devi who was attacked by a maneater (leopard) while she was washing the clothes. Mamta, however, exhibited extraordinary courage and instead of being demoralised or terrorised put a brave fight with the predator and stoned him to death after repeated stoning as per the information of Vipin Pant an NGO activist.

This is undoubtedly an extraordinary act of outstanding bravery by a woman of immense courage who uncaring for her life bravely fought the maneater and stoned it to death. WOW.

She should be recommended for the President’s bravery award by the state government. The Uttarakhand Journalists Forum appeals to the chief minister of Uttarakhand Trivendra Singh Rawat to take note of this incident of outstanding bravery of ahousewife and financially compensate and reward Mamta Devi of Gahard Gaon near Shrinagar Garhwal.

It’s infact disturbing to note that the dreaded incidents of leopard attacks in Garhwal and Kumaon divisions of Uttarakhand are on rapid increase with number of casualties on the rise and the government of the state literally doing nothing to ensure the safety of the human beings and initiating steps to capture these maneaters who are more than 150 in Uttarakhand, may be the number might have increased by now.

What is more disturbing is the fact that unlike in other forests these maneaters have now come nearer to human settlements in Uttarakhand and are constantly making the human’ their easy prey, ever third day. In just last one week several incidents of maneater attacks and subsequent casualties have come to our knowledge.

The situation now has come to such a sorry pass that the forest department and the wild life officers including the minister concerned should seriously work on this matter as maneater casualties have gone beyond control, in the Uttarakhand hills.

Since 2000 after achieving statehood about 600 people have lost their lives in the maneater, leopard attacks and about 31 hundred injured, many of them grievously.

This spree of attacks unfortunately in still on, rather more speedily. The lives of the people whose houses are on roadside, in isolated places and near the jungles have become completely vulnerable.

Maneaters are entering house compounds and grabbing human beings, literally dragging them to the nearby jungles thereafter, thus killing them on the spot without any fear or terror of human attack.

It is incumbent of the state government to come out with a concrete policy and plan of action on these casualties so that the maneaters are tranqualised and captured in cages or if need be killed, as humans are more important than tigers, we believe, if they are killing us so rampantly. What’s your take, friends?

Shooter of 90 maneaters, legendary hunter and conservationist Jim Corbett buried his 3 Rifles and 2 pistols befor leaving India for Kenya

Published

on

I got a significant opportunity to visit the 135 year old historic house of the globally renowned hunter, conservationist, author and a lifelong bachelor Col Edward Jim Corbett in Nainital, who has to his credit killing 90 maneaters and several wild elephants in the jungles of Kumaon and Garhwal, Uttarakhand before leaving for Kenya with his sister Mary James Corbett before 1947, selling his fascinating Bangalow to the Dalmiya’s for few thousand rupees.

The magnificient bungalow known as “Gunray House” named after his father, situated in a sprawling two acre land with beautiful garden is being maintained and owned by the Dalmiya’s who very often visit and stay here. Jim Corbett stayed in this house for several years before departing for Kenya, Africa and never married during his lifetime. He gave up hunting in the later years and worked on safeguarding n protecting the tigers. He had another house in Kaladhungi, near Nainital which has been converted into a museum.

A vivacious reader and an author on wild life, particularly on various species of tigers in the Himalayas, Col Edward Jim Corbett digged a big hole and cladestinely buried his three shooting rifles and two pistols covered by mud, near his house in Nainital at an unknown destination before giving up hunting forever and leaving for Kenya.

Built in 1881, Jim stayed in the Gunray House for several years till 1947 with his mother and sister.

Gurney House was Jim and Maggie Corbett’s house in Nainital when their parent’s house had been damaged by landslides. They lived in this house for several years until they had to move to Africa to live with relatives in their old age as they had no other relatives in India.

Jim is reputed to have been a great voice on the Municipal Board of Nainital and walked 20+ miles for meetings. He loved the area very much and would be devastated by the destruction that has occurred. Indians have nothing to be proud of with what has occurred in Nainital.

Jim however was not allowed to join the Boat Club at Nainital by the Britishers, as he was merely a “domiciled European” and not of authentic British blood.

Gurney House is still owned by the Indian family who bought it from the Corbetts. They now live in Ashoka Road in Delhi but come up to the “summer house”. The male caretaker Joshi opened up the house for us and gave certain vital information about the history of the place. According to Joshi the entire furniture is in the original shape being 135 to 140 year old and every thing has been maintained and retained to give the house the archival look.

All the original artefacts, Corbett books, his drawing room furniture, steel beds, dining room table, wooden chairs, study room and the building are all in original shape and stature, immaculately clean and bearing fresh look.

The original furnishings have been retained nicely and decently maintained. There is a single black and while photograph of Jim and his dog , some of his books, fire side chairs, his bed and other odds and ends.

Thanks to the Dalmia’s for having so meticulously n immaculately maintained the entite bungalow with original artefacts and furnitures including the 135 year old books which Jim used to read.

The walls are fitted with original antelope heads and horns and elephant tusks brought by Jim from African countries. It was indeed a great pleasure and priviledge to be in the midst of the belongings and the interiors of the 135 year old original house n pose for photographs, where once lived this iconic personality, a legendary hunter, wild life conservationist, anthropologist and an author, known n remembered for his outstanding contribution for protecting the people of Uttarakhand from maneaters, conserving the forests and then saving the significant spieces of Himalayan tigers for years together.

Several journalists felicitated with Media Signature Awards

Published

on

It’s not only through journalism but also through socio political service we have to contribute healthily to the society and ensure that the poor, underprivileged and the oppressed sections of the society get their due and are delivered adequately their due.

Journalism in India has undoubtedly become a challenging task and it is really distresng to note that more and more journalists are becoming the target of anti social elements, criminals and sometimes atthe hands of the prevailing political system at the helm.

These were the views of the former Uttarakhand chief minister Harish Rawat while addressing a gathering of distinguished guests as chief guest at the first Signature award function and seminar on the subject titled JOURNALISM AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBLITIES organised by Shail Savera Newspaper at India International Centre on 6th January 2018. Harish Rawat said that there isan urgent need to devise a law for the safety and security of the scribes confronting challenges and threats to their lives while performing their professional duties and subsequent provision for stringent punishment to the guilty including arrangement for adequate financial compensation for the family of the deceased scribes.

The eminent literateur and writer Pankaj Bisht who was the special guest of the function dwelt at length on the speedily killing of the small and medium newspapers of the country and said that the government of the day will have to ensure that newspapers at the grassroot levels are strongly supported financially instead of discouraging them as they are the real source of grass root information delivery and sustenance for them and their respective families. He also expressed his serious concern over the increasing attacks on the journalists of the country while performing their duties and the subsequent complacense of the authorities and police in nailing the culprits. He said: for a strong and viable democracy free media and free expression is inevitable and any attempt to scuttle the voice of the fourth estate will have serious repercussions and implications.

The senior journalist Umakant Lakhera said the way mediamen are being threatened in their line of duty and those working in print and electronics media being made unemployed, forced to resign speaks of the unambiguous fact that the big meda houses and the government in power through their unholy nexus are hell bent upon squeezing the voice of free expression and writing which isa dangerous trend and should be dealt with severely by the united repultion of the media community. Sr journalist Arvind Kumar Singh said unless or until the media does not become the face of the poor, under privileged and the marginalised class of the country including those living in the rural areas of the country we can’t do justice with our profession.

The president of Uttarakhand Journalist Forum Sunil Negi expressed his serious concern over the deteriorating conditions of the safety and security of the journalists and revealed how shockingly over 70 journalists have been killed during the last ten years and not a single case solved with 431 incidents of brutal attacks on the journalistic fraternity of the country. He urged upon the governmental agencies to devise a law for a minimum punishment of ten years for the attackers on journalists and rigrous life imprisonment and capital punishment for the culprits of rarest of the rare cases.

Girish Khadayat of Zee news spoke at length as to how while working in electronic mediathey are harassed to express their voice and talent and hoed that the channels become mote poor and people friendly than focussing on glamour and celibrities. He said the a journalist should be fearless, vocal and courageous. Priyanka Sharma of AAJ Tak said that the day a newsperson or journalist or a politician develop immense intimacy it would lead one to think that there is an unholy nexus between both of them.

She added to be a good journalist one should be critical of the government policies of healthy grounds with unbiased and honest perspective. Vipnesh Mathur of India newssaid that a journalist’s honesty and impeccable integrity in profession is must to gain and win the confidence of the viewers. There are several regulations in performance of duties as an anchor in private channels she added but if one is courageous and have the guts to counter the injustice one can prove to be a good journalist.

Sr Advocate Supreme Court and former President AMU ZK Faizan the mindset of the people have to be changed as in democracy the ultimate power lies with the people of any nation. The journalists do have their problems but chief responsibility of the fourth estate as the torch bearers of the society would be only vindicated when they contribute immensely in changing the peoples’ mind set as the society is rotten due to various socio political and criminal ills.

Harish Awasthi , national spokesperson of AAP said that politicians are the usual targets of journalists here as in journalism too there are several instances of yellow journalism and existence of power brokers under the guise of being scribes. Sr journalist Ved Vilas Uniyal said : having good and healthy relations with politicians is not bad but becoming a pro journalist of a particular ideology, party or a political leader in performance of one’s journalistic duty particularly while filing stories is highly derogatory and unacceptable.

Every journalist should ensure that he or she is free, fair, imartial and unbiased whole pursuing this noble ethical profession. Sr Journalist Abhishekh bachchan and Umakant Lakhera were presented bouquets and shawls on this occasion while 7 journalists of eminence Sunil Negi, Arvind Kumar Singh, Ved Uniyal, Vyomesh Jugran, Priyanka sharma, Vipnesh Mathur, Girish Khadayat were felicitated by first signature Award. The programme was ably anchored by Ajay Bisht.

Is Facebook spying on you?

Published

on

Is Facebook really looking at my photos and using those for ad targeting? Almost everyone with a basic knowledge of ad targeting has wondered about this fact. You may have heard very recently that Facebook can spy on you via your smartphone’s microphone.

This might be a concern if it was possible. Before we all start to panic, we should consider whether such a miracle is possible, even for a tech giant like Facebook.

To make this happen, Facebook would need to record each and every word that your phone’s microphone can record. This is almost the same as always being on a phone call between you and Facebook. Our average voice-over-internet call takes around 24kbps from one way, which totals to about 3 kBs of data per second. If we assume that you’ve got your phone on half the day, then that’s about 130 MBs of data per day, per user. In an average country that’s about 20 petabytes of data per day.

Facebook’s entire data storage at present is about 300 petabytes only, with a daily consumption of about 600 terabytes. So in other words, constant audio surveillance by Facebook would produce about 33 times more data than than Facebook currently consumes on a daily basis.

But if this doesn’t satisfy your curiosity, consider this, spying would be eminently detectable. How? Because using large quantity of data on your smartphone will make it lag. If the always on record call is maintained with Facebook, it will make your phone obviously slow and you will investigate, revealing the cause of the lag.

Though, it is possible, Facebook could listen only for specific keywords that can trigger ads. But it will still be very daunting to do such a thing on every smartphone in existence in country. This process from slow and older phones to fast flagships smartphone like the iPhone X is a messy process. Targeting a specific type of smartphone can ease the burden to an extent, but any significant load on such scale presents very extraordinary challenges.

Even if we disregard the feasibility or ubiquity of such digging for information, can you imagine what Facebook would do with all that information? What can it possibly do? Human language is laden with sarcasm, innuendo, obfuscation and double-entendre. The chances of Facebook’s AI figuring out, just what you want judging by any recording of your conversation are very slim.

In fact the harsh truth is that, it doesn’t need to perform such technical miracles to give us targeted ads. It can simply find you on whatever device you’ve ever logged in on. It can exploit just about everything that retailers know about you, your cash purchases, online transactions which are tied to your phone number or email for a reason.

But before you rage quit Facebook, you must know that Twitter and LinkedIn do the same thing along with numerous other social media apps. In this world it is very hard to escape the modern methods of Advertising.

In short we can just say that, there’s no way at all for Facebook to eavesdrop on you at the moment. But it is definitely tracking you in ways that you’re not aware of.

Is your website running WordPress?

Published

on

Millions of websites that are running WordPress are being strongly advised to update to the latest version of the highly popular content management system as quickly as possible, after a serious security breach was uncovered recently on 1st November, 2017.

Anthony Ferrara discovered this flaw in WordPress, and said, it was a significant SQL-Injection vulnerability that was fixed in WordPress 4.8.3. And if the users haven’t t updated their version of WordPress they are strongly advised to do so, as soon as possible.

It is ironic that, the last month release of WordPress 4.8.2 was actually intended to protect it against the very same vulnerability, but according to Anthony Ferrera, it actually resulted in breaking a lot of websites and didn’t succeed in fixing the root issue.

Ferrera said that he had informed the WordPress team of this problem straight after the release of version 4.8.2, but he was effectively ignored by the security team for several weeks.

According to Anthony Ferrera, this newly-released 4.8.3 security update indeed thankfully mitigates the problem, but in his recent blog post about his interactions with the WordPress’s security team, he said that, any security report should be treated as quickly as possible. He said that, it sometimes means that every second counts and sometimes doesn’t, but the tech support needs to show attention. They need to show that they have read what’s submitted in a report.

Anyone who needs to download the latest version of WordPress (4.83) can get it from the WordPress website, or they can just go to Dashboard / Updates on their admin consoles and simply choose “Update now”.

Some of the WordPress installations support automatic background update, this means that they should have already updated themselves to the latest version of the WordPress.

Automatic updates are usually not for everyone, and many site admins who work inside organisations are wary of updating new versions of software on their web servers. This is because they want a chance to test if the update will introduce any new problems or not.

The truth is that there are many websites out there, which are still running older and vulnerable versions of WordPress. This may or may not be the only breach that could be exploited.

Running your own site which is WordPress based is a considerably hectic job. It is time-consuming to ensure that WordPress and its 3rd-party plugins always remain up-to-date and are working properly to fend off any attacks.

The chances of having your own site being hit by hackers can be reduced if you put a web application firewall in place. This firewall will attempt to filter and block any malicious web traffic before it has a chance to exploit any weaknesses in the system.

It is worth mentioning that websites which are running self-hosted versions of WordPress from wordpress.org are very different from the millions of blogs which are run on wordpress.com. WordPress.com is run by Automattic and it manages the installation of WordPress for you, and also looks after security on your behalf.

Even when there are some limitations on what the website owners can do, they can always be sure that they are fully updated and are running the latest version released by WordPress.

The revolution of social media to replace print media in the future

Published

on

Mobiles and social networking sites likes facebook, whatsapp, instagram and twitter have these days become the most priorty choice and liking of the people and is considered as one of the best options to suffice and fulfill the lust for mental and psychological satisfaction.

This IT revolution has undoubtedly brought people nearer and knowledge to one’s doorstep provided this medium is used logically for developing knowledge based inputs and IQ but contrarily it has also proved to be a greatest disaster as users with manipulative tactics, criminal bent of minds having sexual lust and intent to use it for exploiting people for narrow monetory or material ends and what not, unfortunately, use this easily available via media for immoral and illegal motives.

The young, old, even children and the women use social media extensively and have rather become its addict nationally not leaving even the lowest strata of the society uninfluenced by its massive impression. While social networking sites are the boon for the budding talents and experienced people with immense knowledge to share their experiences, talents, achievements and know-how, there had also been hundreds of thousands of instances of posting nude or semi nude highly objectionable pics on several sites to entice people, especially innocent young boys and girls to fall in their ugly traps, unknowingly.  In several cases the fake FB users in particular misuse the sites to entice girls and married women into their traps on false pretexts and promises, ultimately confronting legal hassles and breaking of families.

There have been several instances of blackmails as well in the social networking sites when the users copy the chats by taking the pictures of undesirable chats n objectionable postures and thereafter exploit the situation to their advantage. The teen aged boys and girls are the worst affected lot in this chatting exercise who get swayed away by the imposters and unintentionally fall into their trap unluckily thus spoiling their carrers and reputation.

There had been several incidents of suicides as well due to the social taboos and stigma. Social media sites lke FB and twitters are the paradise and God sent devise for politicians, political parties and the governments in power including the media who exploit it to the maximum to derive maximum socio political and professional advantage by posting their accomplishments, achievements and programmes and influencing their huge fan following. The sites are also used for the free promotion of various products by small, marginal and medium businessmen free of costs.

The prime minister of India Narendra Modi and the AAP supremo Arvind Krjrival followed by Congress supremo Rahul Gandhi etc have taken and derived maximum political advantage by rightfully using the facebook and twitter and have encouraged other political parties too to derive maximum advantage and benefit out of this God send devise in India.

Its surprising to note that our prime minister tops the chart of maximum followers in the country on his twitter handle followed by Arvind Kejrival and Rahul Gandhi. Today internet banking, railway and air reservations, google searches for any information, instant photography of an event and information relating to any service have made the peoples lives entirely convenient and comfortable.

In the event of capturing any unusual event of public interest if captured through mobile cameras are usually instantly posted in social networking sites that go viral in minutes and draw the attention of the media and the governments. In other words, these sites have alerted the various government departments and stake holders and at times keep them on tenterhooks or make them answerable to the common masses.

The world has squeezed and people and informations have come to your doorsteps. However, it’s also true that the addiction of social media has spoiled those who stick to it for just killing time and thus losing their physical action and achivement part. Using social media at the cost of one’s performance that results into sheer wastage of time, energy and sustenance including family n carrer interests is definitely a liability and should be given up unless or until it hels him or her achieve something credible or worthwhile.

It’s definitely a huge revolution of Information technology for which the credit primarily goes to the former prime minister of the country late Rajiv Gandhi and the then IT brain behind it Sam Pitroda. I remember the days of 1991 when Rajiv opened the the doors for Liberalisation and computers the entire opposition was against him as if heavens have fallen down.

The opposition’s logic was the people of the country would loose employment enmasse and there’ll be poverty all around. But fortunately today those who opposed Rajiv Gandhi are the biggest and the massive users of the social networking sites and internet which is providing employment to the youths of the country. The time is not far when print journalism will replace to digital and online journalism and the newspapers would be the thing of the past. What do you say friends?
