Has Kathua, Gujarat and Unnao resulted in downsliding of the Modi Charisma ?

The three shameful incidents of gangrape of two minors in Jammu’s Kathua and Gujarat and their subsequent most brutal murders and a rape of a teenager by the ruling party’s lawmaker with a custodial death of her traumatic father has undoubtedly resulted in the expeditious downsliding in the image of the BJP led NDA at the centre and its state governments in J&K and Uttar Pradesh.

Keeping in view the national and even international outrage compounded with the massive condemnation in the media, it looks as if the popularity graph of the government that was on the incessant rise is on a serious downslide, particularly after the continuous winning spree in about 21 states of the country, defeating Congress, SP, BSP and even the Communists in their very traditional stongholds of more than two decades as was the case in Tripura.

The way Narendra Modi’s charisma and outstanding organisational skills of Amit Shah made them politically invincible, with even their ardent opponents predicting that BJP led NDA may even repeat in 2019, the recent tragic happenings of Kathua, Gujarat and Unnao, UP has now put the saffron party on the defensive mode and back foot with people of the country, particularly the entire women community, youngsters as well as the intellectuals including the media going against them thus bringing the party’s popularity graph towards a downslide trend.

During the 2012 incident of Delhi’s Nirbhaya when the Congress Party was in power both at the centre as well as in the NCT of Delhi it was the BJP which tried its level best to put the Congress governments of the centre and Delhi on the dock and tried to extract the maximum political advantage by defeating the Congress politically alongwith other key issues of massive corruption at the centre and the Common Wealth Games.

Today while the BJP is in power at the centre the same nature of issues pertaining to crime against women and increasing rapes and gruesome murders of minor and teenage girls had started haunting the Modi government.

Today the BJP lead Modi government is in great problems after these most shameful rape cum murders with its own lawmaker involved in one of the rapes and the custodial death of her father including giving of communal colour to the Jammu’s Kathua rape n murder of 8 year old Asifa in order to exonerate the culprits who happen to be from the majority community.

While the prime minister Narendra Modi has outrightly condemned the Kathua and Unnao incidents and assured the countrymen of the complete safety and security of women with stringent punishment to the culprits, the political analysts say that he was too late to issue the statement and that too not uttering the names of both these incidents.

Similarly the Uttar Pradesh’s saffron robed chief minister Yogi Aditya Nath too issued statement of not sparing the culprits even if he belonged to his party, after the state high court has already issued directives to arrest the BJP MLA and handing the probe to the CBI.

These conspiratorial and calculated late actions and reactions have incalculably harmed the party politically say the political analysts. Just yesterday about 59 former civil servants of the country wrote a hard hitting letter to Prime minister Narendra Modi expressing their grave concern, outrage and desentment over the Kathu and Unnao incidents holding his government directly responsible for these hate crimes as well as for vitiating the communal environment of the country in the name of saffronisation and majoritarianism.

It may be recalled that since 2014 when Narendra Modi came to power with historic majority, his graph of popularity and invincible charisma had been on incessant rise, winning 21 states unquestionably and to the utter shock and surprise of his political rivals.

In Gujarat too, his home turf, though the margin of victory was low but he maintained status quo for the last 25 years incessantly. This all happened despite 400 people losing their lives standing in endless queues during the demonetisation phase and lakhs of people and small, medium entrepreneurs losing their jobs and businesses. The GST implementation exercise too annoyed majority of the businessmen all over the country. The recent shameful defeat in the BJP’s UP CM and Deputy CM’s home turf Gorakhpur and Phulpur at the hands of the BSP supported SP candidates including earlier defeat in two parliamentary constituencies of Rajasthan has made one thing absolutely clear that anti incumbency against the BJP governments in various states and dalit vote banks’ drifting away from the saffron party has started before the 2019 national election.

Its earlier partners like Andhra Pradesh’s TDP and Shiv Sena of Maharashtra has already started drifting away from it while the four Southern states are also badly annoyed with it on the issue of Central Finance Commision’s step motherly treatment to them in the allocation of funds thus ready to create a North South divide straightaway harming the BJP led NDA under prime minister Modi’s leadership.

The government is also on the dock on the SC, ST issue with majority of the Dalits already antagonised on the Supreme Court’s verdict on the dilution of the Prevention of Atrocities against SC ST Act.

On the employment generation front and bringing black money stashed in foreign banks which were the core issues of the BJP led NDA government as assured in his pre election promises, the central BJP leadership has completely failed to come true to the peoples’ expectation.

It’s more like a government of rhetorics say the political analysts. Conclusively one can say that the shameful incidents of Kathua, Gujarat and Unnao has exposed the BJP led NDA government to a great extent and has increased its anti incumbency factor manifold with Modi and Shah losing their political credibility fastly and speedily.

However, its also true that the non BJP opposition is still scattered and despite all these national shams if the non BJP opposition still stays scattered n does not show seriousness to unite, there is not an inkling of doubt that despite all these tragic incidents, the saffron may again shine over the political horizons of the country. What’s your take friends?
