The government of Uttarakhand is playing with the passions and sentiments of the people of Uttarakhand, particularly the ecological disaster victims.

According to a senior journalist Vijendra Rawat, the department dealing with delivering the financial help cheques to the victims of natural calamity has to the utter dismay, surprise and shock of all the victims send cheques of merely 150 rupees to the victims of calamity belonging to Chayi village of Joshimath, Garhwal, Uttarakhand.

What’s more worrisome about this financial help to the natural calamity victims or the families is the fact that one would not even get a kilo of cereal/ pulses for Rs 150 ?

This is not a financial help but an effort to make mockery of their already pitiable condition say the villagers.

It may be recalled that the Uttarakhand’s ecological catastrophe of 2013 has led to the unfortunate deaths of more than 5500 people, which included thousands of locals as well as pilgrims from all over India.

Hundreds of women had become widow and children orphan in this deluge after massive cloud bursts that led to the bursting of the Chorabaari Taal also known as Gandhi Sarovar, the excessive water of which alongwith tons and tons of silt and muck flowed downwards towards Kedarnath further damaging lives and properties and creating havoc, never ever witnessed in the history of Uttarakhand and the country.

Various NGOs’ , Corporate Houses, public sector undertakings, union and state governments and people from across the country contributed handsomely to improve the lot of the victims.

There had been lot of complaints about the embezzlement of funds and corruption in the disbursement of the money meant for the ecological disaster victims.

The former CM of Uttarakhand Vijay Bahuguna had made tall claims of rehabilitating and reconstructing 300 villages as model villages but all in vain, not a single village has been resurrected.

Uttarakhand has recently experienced heavy and fatal rains creating havoc in Chamoli, Tehri and Pauri district. In Budhakedar, Tehri Garhwal, about seven members of a family has been buried alive under the debris of their own house fully damaged due to natural calamity.

Would a meagre financial aid of Rs 150 of any help to the calamity victims is a moot question. Is it not a huge slap on the system, making mockery of the plight of the catastrophe victims, particularly the widows of the calamity? What’s your take friends?
