Indian cuisine is surely incomplete without a handful of rice and a couple of rotis on the plate.

And, it is very difficult to choose just one of them as we have been consuming them since forever.

So giving up on one or both is a very tough task, the debate over the nutritional value of rice and rotis is going on for many years between the health enthusiasts. But, if consumed properly, none of them has any health effects.

Some claim that carb-rich wheat roti should be excluded and some state rice needs to be out from the diet. Mostly rice is what people ditch when they are on diet and replace it by chapatis. Rice comes in many varieties like white, black, brown, red with different processing methods such as mill rice and parboiled whereas roti can be made from whole wheat flour or other whole grains.

Rice vs Roti: Read to know which is best for weight loss

  • Calories and nutrition profile

In the fight between the two, roti kind of wins when it comes to weight loss considering the calories and macros. One cup of cooked, white rice contains about 242 calories and 45 grams of carbs. The calorie count varies according to the type of rice but it usually is above 200. Whereas one big chapatti will have somewhere around 100 calories and 15 grams of carbs.

  •  The best variety of rice and roti

Ideally you should go for multigrain atta or add wheat bran in your mix. The rice we eat is white and polished that lacks a lot of nutrients. So instead of white rice one should go for the brown rice as they are high in fiber and full of micro nutrients. Try to complement both rice and roti with low-fat food and high protein items to make the most of it.

So, instead of ditching one of them you should go with their ideal and healthier versions and include them in your diet whenever you can. Also, make sure you have control over the portion sizes.
