The dates for elections in five states likely to go to polls shortly have been announced by the Election Commission of India finally compelling all the national and regional political parties and independents to tighten their belts.

Though the campaigning in all the five states viz Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Mizoram and Telangana had already started with prime minister Narendra Modi, BJP supremo Amit Shah, Congress chief Rahul Gandhi, BSP chief Mayawati n others addressing good number of public meetings and making populist announcements to please the voters n vociferously attacking the ruling dispensation on controvertial issues like Rafael, banking frauds, employment, inflation and farmers suicide etc after the declaration of the poll dated by the Election Commissioner today in New Delhi, the code of conduct has also come into force simultaneously thus prohibiting or restricting political parties, particularly those ruling at the centre and states to appease the voters of these five states through official announcements of various packages, financial or otherwise.

As per the latest news pouring in after the press conference of the chief election commissioner Om Prakash Rawat the elections in all the five states will be conducted from.12 th November to 7th December and the polling results will be declared on 11th December. While announcing the election dates on Saturday, 6th of October at the ECI headquarter in New Delhi the CEC Om Prakash Rawat said that Chattisgarh infested by Maoist insurgency will go to polls in two phases on November 12 n 20 respectively while in Madhya Pradesh and Mizoram the polling will take place on November 28th.

The state of Rajasthan as well as the newly formed state of Telengana will go for elections on December 7th. It may be recalled that the Telengana CM KC RAO had recommended for dissolution of the Assembly a year before and called for early elections. The results of all the states going to polls between November 12 to Deccember 7, 2018 will be declared on December 11. Just after the announcement of the polling dates by the CEC Om Prakash Rawat, the model code of conduct has also come into force automatically which prohibits all the political parties in the fray to announce populist measures or any official announcements including obliging voters in cash or kind or favours.

It may be recalled that the elections to these five states are truly a prestige issue for BJP as well as Congress. While the Congress party n its chief Rahul Gandhi and the rest of the non BJP opposition are leaving no stone unturned to capitalise the anti incumbency factors that exist in all the ruling party states of Rajasthan, MP and Chattisgarh where the saffron party is ruling since one and a half decade minus Rajasthan, the BJP chief ministers and the party supremo Amit Shah and PM Modi are extremely busy in addressing various largely attending public meetings and announcing sops, which they not do from now onwards as the code of conduct have come into force after the announcement of the polling dates.

Political analysts say that these elections are the true barometers which will decide as to which way the political wind is blowing and also whether PM Narendra Modi’s charisma as a PM is still intact or its Rahul Gandhi who is coming ahead of Modi.

2019’s general elections while still is 6 months ahead but Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s prestige seems to be more on stakebecaise he is the sitting popular PM and Rahul Gandhi as an opposition leader has nothing to lose as he still is 20 years younger to Modiji.

It’s rather a do or die situation for the saffron party than the non BJP opposition as all the opinion polls have so far predicted Modi’s upper hand in 2019 in view of the fragmented opposition as well as Rahul’s popularity on the down slide when it’s compared with an Individual PM Narendra Modi. Moreover the recent break up in the alliance between BSP n Congress in MP, compelling the BSP leader Mayawati to go alone has sent wrong signals across the country making it unambiguously sure that if the situation remains like this in the future patch up as well, not only will the people of the country loose faith in them but the prime minister Modi n the saffron party would also get the direct advantage through the division of votes nationally.
