The newly appointed general secretary of All India Congress Committee and the member of the highest decision making body of the 130 year old party, Harish Rawat who’s considered to be in close proximity to the Congress chief Rahul Gandhi has started his hectic tours of the Assam state for which he have been assigned the responsibility as its party’s incharge.

The former chief minister of Uttarakhand Harish Rawat though having been a septuagenerian and suffered badly in the previous state elections including losing from the two legislative seats at the hands of the saffron party is still extremely mobile, enthusiatic and energetic and had been touring the state since then.

After having been elevated to these top positions in the Congress party Harish Rawat wasted no time in first visiting Dehradun to show his increasing political influence or clout and acknowledge the greetings of the leaders and rank and file of the party. It was also an attempt to demoralise his political detractors in the state party viz the state Congress president and former minister Pritam Singh and his coterie who were trying their best to keep him sidelined in the party programmes and activities but committed and dedicated towards the Congress party Harish Rawat participated in all the protest demonstrations in the state and made his presence felt in the media. It’s only because of his untiring efforts to revive the organisation in the state and being in constant touch with Rahul and Sonia Gandhi he have been rewarded adequately.

Though Rawat has been given the charge of the Assam state in his capacity as the AICC general Secretary his passion and association with Uttarakhand is long lasting and as such Rawat said that he would continue to be as active in the socio political affairs of the himalayan state as was before. Political observers say that Harish Rawat still has an eye on the chief minister of Uttarakhand’s post and would still prefer to take the state government’s cudgels in his had as the next chief minister in 2022 if everything goes well.

In one of the talk on table interview with four senior journalists organised by the eminent weekly of Uttarakhand, The Sunday Post Harish Rawat catagorically and most emphatically said that he would not resign or give up active politics till his hearty and most cherished wish to see the Nehru Gandhi scion as the country’s prime minister is not fulfilled.

Meanwhile, Harish Rawat returned back to Delhi from a four day highly enthusiastic and hectic tour of Assam where he was welcomed by hundreds of Congress leaders and workers of the party and its frontal organisations viz. Youth Congress and NSUI. During his visit while Rawat met the senior Congress leaders he laid special emphasis on meeting and deliberating with the students and youths of the party’s student wing the National Students Union of India.

According to the sources a good number of student activists from the colleges and universities n the NSUI activists participated in these deliberations. Harish Rawat spoke to them on one to one basis and heard their plightsn suggestions in detail. Majority of the students were against the imposition of leadership from the top and said that such arbitrary practice has ruined the Congress in the state of Assam.

This was the eight round of interactive meeting AICC general secretary convened during his four day stay. According to Rawat’s close staff Haripal Rawat majority of the speakers during the meeting expressed their heartu desire that Rahul Gandhi should be the prime minister of the country than any other opposition leader as according to them no other leader in the country matches to his abilities and charisma.

The main leaders who organised the meeting were Bipul Vohra, Jyoti Vikas, Jayant Dass, Ashraf Islam and Deep Jyoti Dass from Congress and NSUI. Assam at present is being ruled by BJP and the Congress citadel in the state got demolished during the last election where the foreigners factor combined with Modi charisma played a pivotal role.

Diring his hectic four day visit in Guwahati Harish Rawat held detailed discussions with office bearers of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, districts and block Congress Committee office bearers and workers , BCC Presidents, MLAs, MPs, AICC, APCC Members etc. at Manabendra Sarma Complex, Guwahati and also addressed number of political gatherings exhorting the Congressmen and the youths, women and students to give up their personal differences to revitalise the organisation in order to give a huge rebuff to the communal and reactionery BJP in the state.
Harish Rawat also visited the residences of the grass root Congress workers to revive their morale and encourage them to revitalise the party organisation in the state. He was accompanied by the Assam PCC, President Shri Ripun Bora, Assam CLP Leader Shri Debabrata Saikia & Secretary AICC Shri Bhupen Bora. He also met the Assam Pradesh Mahila Congress office bearers and women volunteers as well as the OBC deparment leaders and discussed the organisational matters threadbare.  Rawat also went to the hospital in Guwahati to know about the welfare and well being of the ailing wife of the veteran Congress leader and the former Assam CM Hiteshwar Saikia.
