The new vehicle has been developed on the Suzuki’s fifth generation HEARTECT platform, “which makes the car stable, strong and safe,” it said.

Use of high tensile steel has improved the overall safety, rigidity and NVH (noise, vibration, and harshness) performance in the new offering.

It also has safety features including driver airbag, ABS (anti-lock braking system) with EBD (electronic brakeforce distribution) and front seat belts reminder, speed alert system and rear parking sensors.

Earlier, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd had said it would hike its car prices by up to Rs 10,000 for select models with immediate effect to offset adverse impact of increase in commodity prices and foreign exchange rates.

Nissan plans another round of recall after hit by ‘improper’ test scandal

Published

on

Nissan plans to conduct another recall owing to “improper” tests on new vehicles, a newspaper said Thursday, dealing a fresh blow to the Japanese car giant following the shock arrest of former chairman Carlos Ghosn.

The latest issue was uncovered after transport ministry officials conducted on-site inspections at Nissan’s major assembly plants, the Nikkei business daily said.Several employees admitted they carried out “improper” tests on brake and other systems before shipment, the newspaper said, without specifying how many cars were affected.Nissan plans to make an announcement on the case later this month and is considering recalling any vehicles improperly tested, it added.

Immediate confirmation of the report was not available. The manufacturer was forced to recall more than one million vehicles last year after admitting staff without proper authorisation had conducted final inspections on some units intended for the domestic market before they were shipped to dealers.

In a separate case that erupted in July, Nissan admitted data on exhaust emissions and fuel economy had been deliberately “altered”, hampering its efforts to recover trust after the inspection scandal. If confirmed, it would represent another blow to the company, which has been rocked since Ghosn was arrested on November 19 on allegations he under-reported his salary by millions of dollars over five years.Ghosn denies any wrongdoing. The ousted chairman is expected to face a further accusation of under-reporting his salary by about four billion yen (USD 35.5 million) over the past three years, Japanese media reported.

Toyota to hike prices of vehicles across models by up to 4% from January 1

Published

on

Toyota Kirloskar Motor Tuesday said it will increase prices of its vehicles across models by up to 4 per cent from January 1, 2019, to offset increasing manufacturing costs due to rupee depreciation.

The company considered the price hike after periodically reviewing the continuous pressure of increasing manufacturing costs, which is also a general industry phenomenon, Toyota Kirloskar Motor said in a statement.

There has been an impact in the cost of manufacturing of vehicle primarily due to rupee depreciation,” the company said.

Toyota has been absorbing the additional costs all this while, protecting the customers from price increase, it added.

“However, due to the continued pressure of high costs, we have to pass on a part of it to customers. Toyota is considering a price increase of up to 4 per cent across models with effect from January 1, 2019,” it said.

The company currently sells a range of vehicles starting from hatchback Liva to luxury SUV Land Cruiser, which are priced between Rs 5.25 lakh and Rs 1.41 crore.

Meanwhile, General Motors Co said on Monday it will cut production of slow-selling models and slash its North American workforce in the face of a declining market for traditional gas-powered sedans, shifting more investment to electric and autonomous vehicles.

Working overtime to meet BS-VI norm ahead of April 2020 deadline: Maruti

Published

on

With the Supreme Court fixing April 1, 2020, deadline for the sale of only BS-VI-compliant vehicles, Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) is working ‘overtime’ to make over 40 variants of powertrains across more than 15 models meet the stricter emission norms, according to a senior company official.
The company has also reinforced manpower in its engineering and research and development in order to be able to meet the Bharat Stage (BS) VI norms for its fleet ahead of schedule.
“We are working very hard, we are working overtime. No other manufacturer has this kind of work which they have to do. We have the largest number of model portfolio and the largest number of powertrains,” MSI Senior Executive Director C V Raman told PTI.
He was responding to a query on how the Supreme Court’s order last month to stop selling BS-IV vehicle across the country from April 1, 2020, has altered MSI’s preparation for BS-VI emission norms.
Earlier in 2016, the Centre had announced that India would skip the BS-V norms altogether and adopt BS-VI norms. It had stated that from April 1, 2020, only vehicles complying with the latest emission norms would be manufactured while giving three months to automobile firms for the transition to start selling BS-VI vehicles.

However, citing air pollution issues, the apex court said no BS-IV vehicles would be allowed to be sold across the country from April 1, 2020.
Elaborating on the scale of work MSI is undertaking in order to meet the new stricter emission norm, Raman said, “We have more than 15 models and more than 40 variants of powertrains, which is a combination of engine and transmission. So, we will have to ensure that we have to do all of these ahead of schedule.” When asked if MSI would be able to make all of its existing models meet BS-VI norm, he said, “We are working on it definitely and we will ensure that customers get BS-VI. We will try to do ahead of time.” On manpower reinforcement for the new emission norm, Raman said, “Yes, we have been continuously upgrading our people at our facilities both at Rohtak and at Gurgaon.” He said the company had to deploy more people not to just meet the BS-VI norms but also other safety regulations which had come into effect this year.
While he did not specify the number of people deployed for the project, Raman said, “It is a substantial number, specially on the powertrain (for activities such as) engine design, calibration and testing.” Moreover, additional manpower has been utilised in areas such as transmission design, quality assurance and body changes, he added.
Stating that BS-VI works are simultaneously happening at the company’s R&D centre at Rohtak and Gurgaon facility along with Suzuki in Japan, Raman said the company is also working with suppliers such as Dentsu, Bosch and others.
“There is no choice for us, we have to do it. For us, it is do or die,” he said.

Mahindra Marazzo to take on Maruti Ertiga

Published

on

Mahindra & Mahindra had unveiled the all-new Marazzo, a 7-8 seater people carrier, which has been introduced as a direct rival to the ageing Maruti Ertiga in the MPV segment.
Mahindra Marazzo is built on a completely new platform and is first of the three launches of the year committed by the company. It has been designed and engineered using M&M’s three resources based in India, the US (Mahindra Automotive North America) and Italy (Pininfarina).
The Mahindra Marazzo is ready to take on its rivals including Maruti Suzuki Ertiga but does it have the goods when it comes to specifications?
Have a look at the comparison between Marazzo and Ertiga
Exterior and styling
The Marazzo is inspired in its styling cues by a shark, something which is evident all around the vehicle. The grille gets vertical slats as seen on other Mahindra products, but with shark-like teeth appearance. The bumpers has stylish air damps while the twin-barrel swept-back headlamps add to the aggressive fascia. There are LED DRLs on the fog lamps with chrome inserts and lots of black treatment. The MPV sits on 17-inch alloy wheels with disc brakes on all four corners. The large shark-fin-like tail lamps dominate the rather simple-looking rear.
Considering Ertiga, The large wrap-around headlamps, chrome inserts on the grille, Swift-like bumpers and small tail lamps make the design to appear a little outdated. The design has remained the same since its introduction in 2012 except some very small changes three years back.
Interior and features
The cabin of the Marazzo car has a well laid-out dashboard with seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system and the gear-lever dominating the centre console. The instrument cluster is all-new with a unique purple backlit integrating a multi-function display screen between the twin pod clusters. The buttons and switches have been appropriately laid out within reach. The middle row seats can be folded flat as per convenience. The third row also seems to be very spacious . The new feature is the longitudinally-roof-mounted rear AC.
The all-beige cabin of the Ertiga makes it look more spacious than it actually is. The dash is simple with everything designed to make it more practical and appealing. It has the new infotainment screen which is a big benefit. The instrument cluster and steering wheel are all functional with no confusion at all. It also gets a decent standard feature list as well.
Engine and performance
The Marazzo is introduced with a 1.5-litre diesel engine that produces 123 HP and 300Nm of torque. The transmission is only a six-speed manual at the moment, but a petrol variant and automatic versions will be available soon . The transverse mounted FWD setup engine has been designed by AVL.
The Ertiga gets two engine options. The petrol is a 1.4-litre unit that produces 94bhp and 130Nm which can be had with a five-speed manual or a four-speed AT. The diesel, on the other hand, is the 1.3-litre Multijet unit that produces 90bhp and 200Nm of torque and has been mated with the five-speed manual. It comes mated to the SHVS hybrid technology as well.
Pricing
In terms of pricing, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga starts at Rs 6.77 lakhs while the top-spec diesel is priced at Rs 10.95 lakhs. The Marazzo, on the other hand, starts at Rs 9.99 lakhs and go all the way up to Rs 13.90 lakhs.
Verdict
Mahindra Marazzo’s superior shark-inspired design is truly unique and is bound to emerge as a head-turner on the roads. Marazzo is competitively priced and has several of the advanced features that add comfort and luxury for users.
