The outbreak of the pandemic has left people, all across the globe, in a dubiety. From daily wage laborers to the corporates, CoVid-19 has brought an umpteen number of problems for everyone to face and adapt to. Amongst the different strata of the society, people belonging to middle-class families are the ones being adversely affected the most.

With shops closed down, businesses on hold, productions stalled and with no schemes for the common man, the survival of those belonging to this section of the society is no less than a daily struggle. Not only this, to add to their problems is the fear of job security, emerging as a result of the job terminations taking place across all the sectors.

Many private sector and corporate firms are adopting different methodologies to secure their stance and procure profits, during this time of the pandemic. They are, in different ways and means, trying to ensure their survival by cutting costs and slashing salaries. In addition, the companies are not even thinking twice before reducing their task forces, thus leading to the termination of a huge number of employees.

According to the latest results of MyHiringClub.com and Sarkari-Naukri.info Layoff Survey 2020, covering 1,124 companies across 11 industry sectors in 25 major cities, 68% of the employers who were surveyed, either have started the layoff process or are in the process of beginning it soon. Not only this, 73% of those surveyed, stated that they plan to slash the salary of their employees, but 57% also stated that the layoffs were temporary, while 21% showed a strong inclination towards permanent layoffs, for at least a period of 2 years.

Job security in the Covid-19 pandemic era

It is often quoted that experience is greater than bookish knowledge, but in the modern scenario, unfortunately, it seems to lose its coherence. Today, the aged lot present in companies ares being confronted with higher risks pertaining to job security. Be it due to their restricted adaptability to technology or in the shadow of passing the baton to the younger generations, most often, company layoffs hit the elderly the maximum.

Based on a few of the recent surveys carried out by different organizations, it was observed that for the employees with an experience greater than 15 years, the layoff percentage was approximately around 21%, while for those having experience between 1-5 years, it stood at around 18%.

Thus, it becomes imperative to work out sustainable solutions to deal with the new norms that the pandemic is bringing in. Adaptability for the sake of it can never bear fruitful results in the long term and may even result in economic instability. Besides, it is also important to integrate technology and experience attained, as only then a balance can be struck to ensure optimal results for future operations and investments.

In addition, the common man needs to be prioritized as they form the major part of the human population and it is they who are the taxpayers and the baton bearers of the society in general. Undeniably, they are the voice of any given nation and if they are oppressed and surrounded by insecurity, the country can definitely not lead its way to development.
