Mark Zuckerberg has big plans for India and it seems that he understands the importance of cricket in India and that is why the social networking giant is trying to get the media rights of BCCI’s biggest property. Facebook is not alone who is trying to grab the media rights of IPL but Twitter has already shared his interest.

Sources of BCCI have also confirmed that Facebook has picked up the IPL tender and would be bidding for the digital rights of the IPL. But the spokesperson has refused to comment on this decision and said that they do not comment on speculation and rumors.

Earlier this year, FB took the media rights of Premier Futsal and streamed live on its platform, it also streamed Wayne Rooney’s testimonial match between Manchester United and Everton. Facebook also allowed its fans to chat with other fans during the live streaming and send wished to Wayne. FB also streamed 9 Basketball matches in US.

With the streaming of the matches Facebook gets huge conversions and that it why it is so much interested in taking the media rights because during the match audience kept the windows open and it FB can serve ads on the sides which earns revenue.

A spokesperson said that they are focused on helping their partners to experiment with a variety of live content types so that maximum number of people has access to the live matches. They have also seen great results when they have streamed live matched earlier and they will continue to work with their partners to find the best ways to connect their connect to the World’s largest community of sports fans.

During the last season of streaming IPL matches on FB over 140 million total video views were achieved during the season and over 2 million new Facebook fans added on the IPL’s Facebook page.
