Akshay Kumar to romance ‘Good News’ co-actor Kiara Advani in the Hindi remake of ‘Kanchana’

Last year in the month of September it was reported that Akshay Kumar will be returning to the horror-comedy genre after many years with the Hindi remake of Tamil hit film Kanchana. The film was helmed by Raghava Lawrence who will be directing the Hindi film as well. From the past few days, there were several reports making the rounds about the female lead of the film. It was suggested that either Katrina Kaif, Sobhita Dhulipaala or Kiara Advani will play the lead.

Now as per reports in Mid Day, Kiara has been roped in to play the lead opposite Akshay in the film tentatively titled as Laxmi. Talking about the same, a source stated to the tabloid, “While Akshay plays the protagonist who gets possessed by the spirit of a transgender, Kiara will portray the superstar’s girlfriend in the movie. Although the female lead did not have a significant role in the original version, Kiara will enjoy a substantial part in the adaptation. The script too has been tweaked to suit the sensibilities of the Hindi film audience.”

The film will reportedly go on floors in the next few days and will be shot from start to finish. The horror-comedy flick will be produced by Shabina Khan, who had produced Akshay starrer Rowdy Rathore. Earlier a source had said to DNA After Hrs, “Akshay and Shabina have remained friends. Although there have been a lot of changes in the cast in the last few years, this called for a perfect reunion for the two. They are also working towards a sequel to their hit 2012 action comedy, which starred Sonakshi Sinha.”
