Delhi seems to have become the rape capital as shameful cases of rapes, molestations of girls and women are on the rapid increase in the capital of India with majority of the rape survivors being the victim of the close accquaintances or the near and dear ones.

What is more shocking and anguishing is the fact that the minors, incests and the adolocents are the majority targets at the hands of rapists below eighteen years thus going scot free under the guise of being non adult or minor thus given them handle to commit more crimes in the near future.

A recent case of one such rape survivor has come to light today after the shocking news appearing in various dailies of the capital though the shocking incident of incessant physical torture and subsequent repeated rape of the nighteen year old girl was reported in facebook a day or two earlier, having gone viral alongwith pictures of injury marks over her body .

According to the police the victim was confined in a room by the rapist with whom she was in relationship for a year or so and repeatedly raped after being physically tortured for ten days and tied with the rope.

However badly battered, she anyhow managed to free herself on the tenth day and reached her house. The incident is of Aman Vihar, Delhi and the culprit is absconding with the police questioning the family members of the absconder rapist.

The police is investigating the matter from all angles as the family had not lodged the missing complaint to the police, despite their daughter being mysteriously away for ten days. This horrifying incident has shattered the confidence of the Delhites towards the police and the law enforcing agencies of the capital where obnoxious and shameful incidents of crime against women are on the repeated rise.

According to a report published in HT daily today the total cases of crime against women registered in Delhi were 13000 in 2017 and 2900 till March 2018 which included 487 rapes, 722 molestations, 153 cases of sexual harrasment, 913 kidnappings and abductions and 623 other nature of cases.

After the national and global outrage in the case related to the gruesome gang rape and brutal murder of Nirbhaya of Delhi in a moving bus in Vasant Vihar in 2013, several fast track courts to deal with cases of rapes with possible modifications in laws to make them more stringent were implemented but despite all this the crime rate against women is still on the rise.

This is highly disheartening and a severe blot on our society. The heart rendering and shocking cases of the gang rape and heinous murder of the 8 year old Kathua girl and an eighteen year girl of Unnao in UP allegedly at the behest of the BJP MLA have also outraged the right thinking people and the vulnerable women community of the country.

But what makes the situation more worse is the fact that the political parties of the country instead of dealing with this horrible menace more credibly and earnestly to arrive at a unanimous resolution to give it a complete stop mingle in shabby tactics of communalising the issue to derive political advantage to garner votes.

Time has really arrived when all the poltical parties of the country including those at the helm of political dispensation should come together across ideological lines on one platform and device concrete and credible solutions to put an end to such gruesome incidents which are unfortunately on the uncontrollable rise and affecting the polity of the country. What’s your take friends?
