The election to the Press Club of India finally ended today with one thousand seven hundred journalists voting from 10 AM to 6 PM. As compared to the last year, this time 250 more members voted and it is being believed that this enhancement may be due to the enrollment of fresh members.

However, both the camps i.e. the Lahiri and Sen panels are keeping their fingers crossed till the final results come out on Sunday, the 26th November evening but observers say that it was more or less a mix voting trend, totally unpredictable as the contest was neck to neck. Whatever may be the final outcome of this prestigious annual poll but one thing is for sure that the club did a massive business today with PCI members and their fellow beings thronging the club in large numbers, since afternoon.

The liquor, tea, snacks and lunch were open for the whole day finally dinner in the evening obviously leading the club to make tremendous profits out of the record sale. The elections of press club of India is an annual feature which is an opportunity for journalistic fraternity to meet their old friends at least on this day for sure. Prominent among those who voted in this election were the editor in chief of India TV Rajat Sharma, Chief editor and anchor of India News Deepak Chaurasia, popular TV Anchor Ajit Anjum, former AAT Tak Anchor Deepak Sharma, veteran journalist and octogenarian Vishva Bandhu Gupta, former Railway minister and veteran journalist Ajay Singh, NDTV Anchor and popular journalist Ravish Kumar, former CBI spokesman and Press Secretary to former president Dr. Abdul Kalam Mr. Khan, Pankaj Vohra, Punya Prasoon Vajpayee of AAJ Tak and others.

A large number of journalists of print and electronic media were seen campaigning and voting for their respective panels. The significance of the PCI election is that while during this period the membership of all the journalists enrolled to this body gets renewed i.e. the balance if any is cleared and the club do a hefty business as well through the sale of liquor and food stuff. The current panel of Lahiri, Bharti, Vinay n Mahua is on the saddle since 2010 and each time which ever panel had contested against them has lost.

This would be their eighth victory in succession if they win though what happens on Sunday after the counting session in the evening, is anybody’s guess. However, the contest between both the panels have been very competetive and nothing outrightly can be predicted as to who’s going to win and who’s to lose.

While the election campaigning in the Himalayan state of Himachal pradesh is in full swing with leaders of both Congress and BJP accusing each others with serious charges including the prime minister Narendra Modi and Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi vociferously hitting each other by their curse remarks and allegations, one things seems to be common and i.e. the issues of election already held in Uttrakhand where BJP has formed government and Himachal Pradesh where elections are due for 9th November are almost the same. What sounds interesting is that the BJP in Uttarakhand targetted the then Congress government of Harish Rawat on issues like corruption, Liquor, land, illegal mining, transfer, forest and drug mafia including dereriorating law and order situation and were quite successful to convince the voters of this 17 year old state finally gaining absolute majority and even more by bagging 57 seats out of seventy.

Similarly in Himachal assembly elections too, which is geographically and traditionally a Himalayan state witnessing more or less same problems is also the victim of the mafia rule as the charges being traded by prime minister Narendra Modi. In his recently held public meeting in Rehan and Una in Himachal Pradesh to capture the Congress strongholds prime minister Modi slammed the current Congress regime of Vir Bahadur Singh of corruption and promoting the liquor, land, forest, drug and transfer mafia in the land of abode of Gods and exhorted the electorates to ged rid of the Congress regime which has become a symbol of patronising these elements filling their financial coffers with laundered illegal money.

Prime Minister Modi said a chief minister who is already indicted in a graft case has no right to continue in power. The 73 year old former chief minister and the officially declared BJP CM has vowed to fight the liquor, land, drug, forest and transfer mafia as directed by prime minister to free Himachal Pradesh of incessant corruption let loose by the current political dispensation led by tainted CM Virbhadra Singh. Meanwhile, the Nehru Gandhi family scion and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has yesterday in a hard hitting tweet in Hindi attacked PM Modi and his government asking it to step down for not performing to the peoples’ expectation. In his tweet while criticizing Modi’s government Rahul Gandhi has written: MEHENGI GAS, MEHENGA RATION/ BAND KARO KHOKHLA BHASHAN/ DAAM BAANDHO KAAM DO/VERNA KHAALI KARO SINHASAN.

HAVING seen spate of defeats at the hands of the ruling BJP under the influence of Modi charisma right from Assam to Uttarakhand and confronting being on a sort of brink of disaster situation the Nehru Gandhi scion and the likely president of the oldest party of the country that ruled Inda for 60 years or more, Rahul Gandhi does not want to take any further risk in Gujarat and therefore is ready to compromise on any formula and with any political force with any preconditions that can pose a direct and formidable challenge to the ruling BJP led NDA and its chief prime minister Narendra Modi and his cohorts.

The desperate efforts of Congress party under Rahul’s wishes and instructions to bring into Congress’s fold the popular leader of the patidar community Hardik Patel ( the community that constitutes 14% votes ) and give them the assurance of complete reservation if their party comes to power in Gujarat and thereafter in Delhi in 2019 unambiguously speaks of the fact that the Congress Party is either openly befooling the patidar community of Gujarat or Hardik Patel and the community itself is deliberately prepared to be misguided on this count as it has no option but to oppose the BJP in the state.

The crux of the matter is both the Congress as well as the Patidar leader Hardik Patel are well aware that reservation to Patidars is not constitutionally affordable even if they come to power because while as per the constitutional obligation reservation in any state of the country can’t exceed the limit of 49% and Gujarat has already fulfilled that limit.

Moreover if by chance the Congress comes to power in the state and even after getting it passed from the state assembly if it is send to the parliament to get it ratified by both the houses, will the BJP and NDA pass it? The answer is an obvious no. Now the Congress has a logic and it has also assured the patidar leader that even if the centre does not pass it, the Congress will implement it in 2019 after assuming power at the centre.

Now again, its a hypocritical answer as how can the Congress be so sure that they are likely to come to power in 2019 ? The point is how can both these parties, the Congress and Patidars’ leader Hardik misguide the entire community? But this is true as Hardik Patel and Congress are now in a fix and they have no option but to stand united to fight BJP relentlessly. The patidars are furious against BJP as they think it has betrayed and befooled them during the last 19 years and did nothing for their welfare but always sought their overwhelming support to enjoy power.

They are also deadly against the ruling party for bringing anti small business men act the GST and badly lathicharged and injured the patidar protestors demanding reservations in jobs. The patidar leader also question the dubious anti patidar community intentions of the state and centrally ruled BJP led NDA governments saying that had they been serious and committed about reservation to patidar in jobs they could have get it passed in Assembly and then sent to parliament for ratification from both houses, to be finally signed by the president who has also been elected at their behest.

By intentionally ignoring our community and physically thrashing us and our leader Hardik Patel lacing him with umpteen serious cases the BJP has committed a grave sin for which it will have to suffer badly. We and Congress will fight it out of the state adds Hardik.
