Donald Trump

President Donald Trump has signed a new revised policy on travel ban and administration officers feels that this will end the legal challenges faced over the matter by imposing a three months ban on the issuance of new visas for citizens of six Muslim countries.

According to this new revised policy the nation’s refugee program will also be suspended for 120 days and America will not accept more than 50,000 refugees in a year which was earlier 110,000 cap set by Barack Obama.

According to the administrations officials of White House these new orders will come into effect from 16th March 2017.

It is assumed that with this revised travel ban Donald Trump has soften and these new guidelines clearly shows that Donald Trump has taken a departure from its original ban and  now only new issuance of visas have been banned and Iraq has been omitted from the ban.

The new guidelines have also mentioned the specific details required by those people who would be able to apply for case by case waivers to the order, including those people who admitted in the America for continuous working and for study purpose or any other long term activities in the US.

This order has acted as a needed pause, so that the White House can review how they scrutinize people coming from the other countries which are basically Muslim countries as told by Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

Some Democrats are also of the opinion that the new order was legally tainted in the same way as the first one and it was thinly disguised Muslim ban.

New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, D said “While the White House may have made changes to the ban, the intent to discriminate against Muslims remains clear, this doesn’t just harm the families caught in the chaos of President Trump’s draconian policies – it’s diametrically opposed to our values, and makes us less safe.”

On the other hand State Department, Homeland Security and Justice Department officials are trying to defend the new order and are of the opinion that the new order is a necessary measure to improve the public safety.

Finally people who were banned to enter the US after the order of US President Donald Trump were allowed to enter the States after the US court judge lift up the ban and by this order obviously Donald Trump is not quite happy and even said that if something would happen then people of the States should not blame him and the judge should be blamed for it.

Anyways there were about 60,000 people who were not allowed to enter the United States for 90 days and now much more happier to see and meet their relatives and friends and can again get back to their lives but still there is a fear of Donald Trump because nobody is sure what severe decisions he might take in future against the Muslims whom he feels that all of them are in a way connected to the terrorist or responsible for terrorist activities in US.

No the Airline around the world is allowing people to board flights and travel to the US.

Few days back Donald Trump took the harsh decision to ban people entering in the US from seven Muslim countries Syria, Iraq, Iran, Sudan, Somalia, Libya and Yemen. Not just this he also banned the refugee admissions for 120 days and barred Syrian refugees indefinitely.

Many people inside US and in other countries protested against Donald Trump for this decision and he also faced many legal challenges around the country from students and researchers.

But the intention of Donald Trump was to keep terrorists from slipping into the country and this fact should also be considered as the intention was not wrong but this decision was lashed out by the US district judge James Robart.

Donald Trump Tweeted on Sunday “Just cannot believe a judge would put our country in such peril. If something happens blame him and court system. People pouring in. Bad!”

Few days back the United Nations voted in favor to condemn Israeli settlements in the West Bank and east Jerusalem and Donald Trump is not happy and sure about its effectiveness and further took a dig on it by tweeting that the United Nations is a club of people to have a good time.

The US president wrote on Twitter that the UN has such a good potential but it has become just a club for people to get together, talk and have a good time which is so sad.

He even warned UN that the tings will be different after 20th January when he will join the President office.

The Obama also abstain from Friday’s UN vote and Trump on the other hand demands that the US exercise its Veto and provided climax to years of icy relations with Israel’s leadership.

Trump told to the press that he wanted to be very neutral on Israel- Palestinian issues. His tone also changed while speaking about the Israel. He also told that Palestinians were taken over by or are condoning militant groups.

On Monday he again tweeted that the UN had ignored much of the work that does on in the 193 member global organization.

This year the UN council has approved over 70 legally binding resolutions which also includes new sanctions on North Korea and measures tackling conflicts and authorizing the UN peacekeeping operations around the World.

Trump tweeted on Monday “The world was gloomy before I won – there was no hope. Now the market is up nearly 10 percent and Christmas spending is over a trillion dollars!”

Much is being talked about how US President-elect Donald Trump  foreign policy will unfold in the Middle East where America is leading the coalition to fight ISIS, some critical decisions about Pacific where China, a close ally of North Korea is determinant power will also have a bearing on US-China changing relations. With Trump  devising new terms and conditions for the military alliance between US-Japan-South Korea after January 20th whereby these countries will have to put their defense expenditure, China  with its massive military built up in South China Sea will aggressively confront US to dictate terms to bring North Korea for the resumption of six-party talks.

Meanwhile, China is opposing unilateral sanctions on North Korea outside the framework of Security Council resolutions.

Tensions on the Korean Peninsula reached a high level in 2015 when Pyongyang conducted two nuclear tests and a string of ballistic missile launches and as a response South Korea is about to complete the deployment of an advanced US missile defense system by May 2017. The tensions will further rise as Russia, China and North Korea termed the action of US  and Seoul as provocative. But Park Geun-hye impeachment has created political uncertainty in South Korea.

If Trump is thinking of having normal ties with Russia  and using Moscow card to browbeat China then he is bound to fail as because Russia-China ties are far deeper than US-Russia understanding though Putin had in someway helped Trump win the US Presidential elections.

Admiral Harry Harris, head of the US Pacific Command ,warned China that Washington would not accept Chinese control of the South China Sea, despite Beijing’s having undertaken rapid development of artificial islands capable of hosting military planes.

Harris further added “We will cooperate where we can but we will be ready to confront where we must and the US fought its first war following our independence to ensure freedom of navigation”.

Trump may have to tackle China by involving countries having ties with both the countries and will have to take into confidence his own intelligence agencies, especially the CIA as well as moderate Republican  and Democratic members of Congress.

With the announcement of retired Marine Gen. James Mattis as Defense Secretary of the United States, President-elect Donald Trump has amply outlined the major changes that Pentagon contemplates in dealing with China, Russia, Iran and Israel and in changing Afghanistan through Pakistan that also envisage eliminating Haqqani network from Afghanistan-Pakistan border. Admirers call Mattis as “Mad Dog” or “Warrior Monk”, a tough general attributed with strong handling of wars.

On Afghanistan Policy, Mattis favours to be a strategic partner with Pakistan  to target terrorists including Talibans in the region. His famous quotes for Afghanistan like “You go into Afghanistan, you got guys who slap women around for five years because they didn’t wear a veil. You know, guys like that ain’t got no manhood left anyway. So it’s a hell of a lot of fun to shoot them.”

He said “there are some assholes in the world that just need to be shot. “Therefore Trump will not participate in nation building in Afghanistan.

Mattis will never allow politicization in the Department of Defense. Mad Dog was on the front line of the 2001 assault on Afghanistan, led the Marine attack on Baghdad in 2003.

China and Russia will have to be cautious as Mattis is against Beijing’s increasing naval power and warships in the South China Sea. He had held that China must be denied “veto power” over the territorial claims, security and economic  conditions in the pacific.

Warrior Monk said that Putin creating instability along Russia’s border and is skeptical about Russia-China strategic partnership that points  to blending of China’s One belt, One road with Russia’s Eurasia Economic Union.

Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has already changed Army chief of Staff and ISI chief keeping in view the appointment of Mattis in Pentagon .

Mattis considers Pakistan strategically important for defeating Taliban and regaining control of the lost territories of Afghanistan to Taliban in recent years. Mattis was anti to US-Iran Nuclear deal that led President Obama to replace him as Centcom commander.

As far as One China Policy is concerned, Trump is in no mood to entertain China  and will move forward to strengthen and deepen diplomatic ties with Taiwan  and help it become stronger economically and boost its military status.

US President-elect Donald spoke directly with the President of Taiwan, a move that has infuriated China and shows uncertainty over US policy towards Asia.
Trump is wooing countries having strategic clash with China. China charges that Trump’s policy amounts to collecting “protection money” by referring to his statement to make the US’s allies pay America for helping defend them.

Giving an insight into his foreign policy, Donald Trump posted a tweet “The President of Taiwan Tsai Ing-wen called me today to wish me congratulations on wining the Presidency. Thank you!” This almost reverses US policy of recognizing ‘Taiwan-China as One China’ followed since Jimmy Cartar in 1979; rather the US President elect has made it clear to China that henceforth it will not follow the submissive diplomatic decisions of the previous administrations and the President of the United States of America will talk to whom so ever he wants in the interest of his country and nobody can dictate any sort of terms to the superpower.

After China criticized US for taking the call of Taiwan, Trump retaliated via twitter by letting it know that it never consulted US for devaluing their currency and for building  a massive military complex in the South China Sea.

He conveyed a clear message to China that Washington is going to get tough in its dealing with Beijing and the world should not underestimate him in handling the world affairs.

Acknowledging that Taiwan has become militarily weak and economically ruined because of China’s policies and Trump has worked out a plan to upgrade the status of US representation in Taiwan thereby restoring full diplomatic relations with it.

President Tsai Ing-wen will meet members of Trump’s team while in New York on her way to Central America.

Trump refuses to even entertain any interference from China in this regard and Communist Party authorities will be closely watching all the developments keenly.

US Defence bill has approved $900 million (Rs 6,121 Crore) as economic assistance to Pakistan to deal with terrorism especially the Afghan guerrilla insurgent group  Haqqani network.

Haqqani network succeeded in pushing back the Soviet invaders under the leadership of Jalalludin Haqqani (now Sirajuddin Haqqani) and is now engaged in securing the withdrawal of US and coalition forces mostly of NATO nations  from Afghanistan.

Basically US began war against terrorism in Afghanistan against Al-Qaeda after the 9/11 terror attack. But Al-Qaeda and Haqqani Network are intertwined in Afghanistan-Pakistan region and are committed to bringing about sharia law in Afghanistan. Al Qaeda which looks after global terror operations  and Haqqani which is mainly responsible for regional terror activities have allies in Taliban, Tehrik-e- Taliban Pakistan, Tehrik-e-Nafaz-e-Shariat-e-Mohammadi.

The US House of representatives passed a consensus $900 Million assistance to Pakistan out of which $450 Million will be reimbursed upon certificate from Pentagon about Islamabad’s actions against terrorism, mainly the Haqqani network.

US policy has consistently been to deal terrorism in Afghanistan through Pakistan because it had some years back witnessed a savage  attack on Pakistan army public school in which 140 students were killed  and also attacks on military academy.

Pakistan has been carrying out military operations named Zarb-e-Azb against foreign or local militant groups across the Durrand Line bordering Pakistan and Afghanistan. These two countries have very intricate relationship calling this as brotherly bonding as Ghani and Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif share friendly ties.

In a congratulatory phone call to US President-elect Donald Trump, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani had reiterated dedication of Afghan security forces in defending Afghan territorial integrity  and expressed admiration for the sacrifices of US and Nato troops. Both Trump and Ghani emphasized their joint commitment to fight terrorism.

Trump’s phone call to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif assuring him of working closely with Pakistan shows his approach in Asia. Donald has chosen Michael Flynn as his national security advisor, who was under investigation in 2010 for sharing sensitive intelligence data with Pakistan about Haqqani network.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif managed to replace COAS Gen Raheel Sharif with General Qamar Javed Bajwa despite Raheel’s popularity across different sections in Pakistan that even urged him to stage a sort of coup with Pervez Musharraf on his side. With the escalated India-Pakistan border tensions having implications, Bajwa’s credentials as a through professional may have regional and global dimensions.

AS Donald pledged to eliminate ISIS from the Middle East  while Pakistan has been the main training grounds for Islamic terrorists and the continuous terror attacks on Indian armed forces since 2015 has further confirmed that there is no change in Islamabad’s policy on terrorism.

During Raheel Sharif’s tenure numerous major terror attacks were carried out on Indian forces coupled with ceasefire violations after the September 29 Surgical strikes by India  to up his claim for political space in Pakistan. Needless to say that terror strike on Army camp at the XVI Corps headquarters in Nagrota near Jammu  and another attack on BSF patrol at Chamliyal in the Ramgarh sector of Samba district may come to be known as his parting acts.

After the January 2017 inauguration of US President- elect Donald Trump, India will gain an upper hand in dealing with Pakistan. But Pakistan Army chief Bajwa having vast experience of serving as Commander FCNA (Force Command Northern Areas )of Gilgit-Baltistan, and Chief of Staff as well as GOC 10 Corps (the Pakistani Corps which is responsible for operations along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir) and well versed with Kashmir affairs may opt in favour of restoring ties along with new ceasefire deal that may also spur Nawaz Sharif hitherto sagging image in Pakistan.

Nawaz Sharif who is aware of the new US leadership considering to designate Pakistan as a terror state, will weigh in favour of normalizing India-Pakistan ties and Bajwa will try to dispense with the concept of regarding terrorist outfits as a  strategic assets of Pakistan against India.

As China is a close ally of Pakistan but tries to maintain good relations with US may also pay heed to India terror concerns which was previously ignored.

There are grave concerns about what type of policy will be adopted by US President-elect Donald Trump with regard to Russia  and the  global trade that may drastically effect the emerging economies.
Donald Trump’s initial vision to reset relations with Vladimir Putin to eliminate ISIS from the Middle East and other parts of the world may turn out to be a very long drawn process.

The US-Russian relations differ fundamentally on numerous issues like Syria, Ukraine and NATO. Aggressive Putin after having annexed Ukraine’s Crimea is on the mission to increase its power, area and influence to counter US super power status and to show Beijing that it is still ahead of China.

Trump’s planning to have a rapprochement with Russia will have to cross many hurdles as his own top advisers , Pentagon officials, State Department officials, the Congress, Intelligence sleuths and even US allies will be found resisting the shift in US foreign policy based on various considerations.

Putin is considering a military invasion of Baltic countries(Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania) as Russia has deployed 225000 troops, ammunition including nuclear-capable ballistic missiles in the enclave of Kaliningard between Nato members Lithuania and Poland.

After having tense ties with US under Barack Obama leadership, Putin aims to hold a bilateral meeting with Trump to reset the ties based on specific conditions that first US recognition of Russia’s 2014 annexation of Crimea Peninsula  and ending of economic sanctions.

Second US and its Nato allies should reduce their military engagement in eastern Europe (air and maritime advantage) and in Central Asia.

Russian spokesman Dmitry Peshov elucidated that “slowdown or withdrawal of Nato military potential from our borders could lead to a kind of detente in Europe.”

To put more explicitly, Putin’s opinion is that his conditions would lead to weakening of the USA and ultimate destruction of the Western integration institution NATO.

The Europe and US new administration will properly reassess Russia’s move and advice Donald Trump to properly counter the Cold War rival.

Fidel Castro who died at the age of 90 will be remembered for having turned his country as the last communist citadel against free markets but though it resulted in destroying his country’s economy by denying free trade with the world.

Donald Trump expects better future for Cubans after the death of this dictator saying, “While Cuba remains a totalitarian island, it is my hope that today marks a move away from the horrors endured for too long, and toward a future in which the wonderful Cuban people finally live in the freedom that so richly deserve”.

His implementation of  free education and healthcare to the masses virtually not only dried up state funds for other economic activities. Castro literally forced political opponents to live in exile  and suppressed freedom and democracy, curbing civil liberties, showed no tolerance to any deviation from official ideology thus destroying the national economy in his more than 55 years of his rule.

He turned out to be the first dictator of this island nation who defied 10 US Presidents and brought his country to the brink of Nuclear war in 1962. Barack Obama rejecting the Cold war era policy initiated the policy of charting a new course in relations with Cuba in 2015.

His more than 55 years rule brought untold misery and sufferings to his countrymen. He may not be remembered after his ritual mourning after his death. But as Raul Castro came to power in 2008 after Fidel’s illness, it is expected that the Cubans will now start enjoying the basic rights and will benefit by availing the opportunities of free trade and enterprise.

Castro earned a worldwide recognition of having ruled a small island nation on Marxist-Leninist lines  just 90 miles from the coast of Florida.

Cuba received subsidies from the Soviet Union which ceased after its collapse and the remaining fringe subsidies from Venezuela have also come to an end. Therefore, Cuban President Raul Castro’s policies will now determine the fate of this island nation.
