There is a shocking and extremely anguishing news for Delhites. From 1st January to 7th January the capital of the country witnessed 42 deaths DUE to cold and chilly weather with Delhi experiencing the coldest night in several years on last Thursday, the 4th of January i.e. 3.7 degrees celcius.

This is infact a very distressing and disturbing news as its primarily the sole responsibility of the governments of the state and the centre and its concerned social welfare, health and police departments to conduct night checks and find poor and hapless people shivering in excessive cold undr critical circumstances to ensure that they are adequately housed or provided shelter in Rain Baseras and other facilities with proper and timely medical aid.

Delhi despite being the capital of the largest democracy of the world should be fully equipped with facilities like housing projects, foodstuffs, forthright medical care, warm clothings and financial help etc to ensure that the wandering poor, hapless and vegabounds are adequately taken care of, as providing the physical safety and well being during acute winters and summers is primarily the state’s responsibility.

After all the state’s and centre’s social welfare and health departments are provided with enough budget to ensure that the health related safety and security of these street people, the poor women, hapless children and the senior citizens is materialised at all costs.

The above statistics has been released by an NGO based on the figures of MHA as and are therefore fully reliable and authentic. This is indeed a sorry state of affairs on the part of the departments concerned and those at the helm of the political dispensation of the state.

In Delhi one can conveniently see such poor people in tatters under the Metro sheds, at the international bus terminus vicinity, near Nigam Bodh Ghats, outside every temple of Delhi, near Railway stations, platforms, under bridges, construction projects and even near Yamuna river banks. Just imagine when people living inside houses are facing the extremely chilly cold weather what would be the fate of those myriad numbers of poor and hapless children, women and old aged who have no clothes to wear and blankets to cover themselves during these hazardous winter nights in the open.

These 42 deaths due to the cold in Delhi is an unambiguous indication as to how faulty, negiligent, careless and complacent is our system towards these most vulnerable lot. These most unfortunate deaths therefore warrant an impartial enquiry into the whole episode to fix responsibility on the authorities and officers’ concerned who are directly or indirectly responsible for these horrific deaths due to cold weather during the last six days from 1st to 6th January. These deaths also put a huge question mark on the integrity of those NGOs who seek government funds but do little or neglible in such situations and matters. What do you say friends?

Women and girls most vulnerable in Delhi/ 19 year old tortured and raped for 10 days repeatedly, Shame!

Women and girls most vulnerable in Delhi/ 19 year old tortured and raped for 10 days repeatedly, Shame!

Delhi seems to have become the rape capital as shameful cases of rapes, molestations of girls and women are on the rapid increase in the capital of India with majority of the rape survivors being the victim of the close accquaintances or the near and dear ones.

What is more shocking and anguishing is the fact that the minors, incests and the adolocents are the majority targets at the hands of rapists below eighteen years thus going scot free under the guise of being non adult or minor thus given them handle to commit more crimes in the near future.

A recent case of one such rape survivor has come to light today after the shocking news appearing in various dailies of the capital though the shocking incident of incessant physical torture and subsequent repeated rape of the nighteen year old girl was reported in facebook a day or two earlier, having gone viral alongwith pictures of injury marks over her body .

According to the police the victim was confined in a room by the rapist with whom she was in relationship for a year or so and repeatedly raped after being physically tortured for ten days and tied with the rope.

However badly battered, she anyhow managed to free herself on the tenth day and reached her house. The incident is of Aman Vihar, Delhi and the culprit is absconding with the police questioning the family members of the absconder rapist.

The police is investigating the matter from all angles as the family had not lodged the missing complaint to the police, despite their daughter being mysteriously away for ten days. This horrifying incident has shattered the confidence of the Delhites towards the police and the law enforcing agencies of the capital where obnoxious and shameful incidents of crime against women are on the repeated rise.

According to a report published in HT daily today the total cases of crime against women registered in Delhi were 13000 in 2017 and 2900 till March 2018 which included 487 rapes, 722 molestations, 153 cases of sexual harrasment, 913 kidnappings and abductions and 623 other nature of cases.

After the national and global outrage in the case related to the gruesome gang rape and brutal murder of Nirbhaya of Delhi in a moving bus in Vasant Vihar in 2013, several fast track courts to deal with cases of rapes with possible modifications in laws to make them more stringent were implemented but despite all this the crime rate against women is still on the rise.

This is highly disheartening and a severe blot on our society. The heart rendering and shocking cases of the gang rape and heinous murder of the 8 year old Kathua girl and an eighteen year girl of Unnao in UP allegedly at the behest of the BJP MLA have also outraged the right thinking people and the vulnerable women community of the country.

But what makes the situation more worse is the fact that the political parties of the country instead of dealing with this horrible menace more credibly and earnestly to arrive at a unanimous resolution to give it a complete stop mingle in shabby tactics of communalising the issue to derive political advantage to garner votes.

Time has really arrived when all the poltical parties of the country including those at the helm of political dispensation should come together across ideological lines on one platform and device concrete and credible solutions to put an end to such gruesome incidents which are unfortunately on the uncontrollable rise and affecting the polity of the country. What’s your take friends?

Rahul, Priyanka, Vadra stage midnight candle light protest at India Gate against Kathua gang rape and horrendous murder of Asifa

While the shameful gangrape and the most brutal murder of an eight year old girl Asifa hailing from the muslim Bakkerwal community of Kathua, Kashmir is making the breaking news in all the TV channels and headlines in newspapers, the Congress president Rahul Gandhi alongwith sister Priyanka and brother in law Robert Vadra today midnight staged a candle light procession from the party headquarter 24 Akbar Road to India Gate holding candles in their hands and expressing their outrage over the BJP – PDP government headed by Mehbooba Mufti in Jammu and Kashmir.

Hundreds of Rahul’s followers and Congress party workers with national leaders viz Ghulam Nabi Azad, Ahmed Patel, Hooda, Sanjay Nirupam etc marched alongwith Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi holding candles and playcards denouncing the Mehbooba Mufti – BJP government for the inaction in the Asifa gangrape and horrendous murder episode.

The marchers were silent and speedly marching towards India Gate carrying playcards, where the candle light procession finally converged. Castigating the state government of inaction in the Kathua gangrape and murder case Rahul Gandhi termed it a gruesome act against humanity and charged the BJP of communalising the situation to save the culprits.

Taking to Twitter the Nehru Gandhi scion and the Congress president said: How can anyone protect the culprits of such evil? What happenned to Asifa at Kathua, is a crime against humanity. It cannot go unpunished. What have we become if we allow politics to interfere with such unimaginable brutality perpetrated on an innocent child. Rahul tweeted.

It may be recalled that in the case of Asifa as well as in the UP matter involving an MLA in a rape case, both the BJP state governments have annoyed the opposition leaders as well as the local populace for the inaction. The media is excessively highlighting both the issues leading to the state and central government’s insult as in UP, centre as well in Jammu, Kashmir the BJP is running the political show with partnership in J& K. The matter of Asifa gangrape and murder has assumed national and even global significance inviting the attention of governments, courts and human right bodies.
