Shaan denies being pelted by stones at Guwahati concert

Published

on

Singer Shaan has urged the media to not spread ‘wild speculations and lies’ and denied being attacked by stones at a recent concert in Guwahati on october 29. Earlier on Tuesday news agency ANI reported that stones and paper balls were pelted at Shaanafter he sang a Bengali song at the concert.

“Complete lies!!! One Paper ticket folded up was thrown on stage by One Person after vigorously gestering and shouting to stop singing.. That’s all … please stop these wild speculations and lies,” Shaan wrote on Twitter.

The 46-year-old was performing in Guwahati’s Sarusajai Stadium when someone from the audience threw a paper ball at him after Shaan started singing a Bengali song. A visibly angry Shaan then stopped his performance and urged the miscreant to learn to respect the performer.

“If you don’t like it, you can go away. I had a high fever. I am on antibiotics. And still I am here performing all night for you,” Shaan told the crowd.

After the episode, the singer took to Twitter to share his thoughts. While replying to a social media user, who apologised to the singer for the ‘unfortunate incident,’ he said it would be wrong to tarnish Assam over one unfortunate incident.

“Just for the records …loved my Assam Tour!! Saw the most fascinating sights…made new friends..had huge turnouts at every concert.. Over one unfortunate incident it would be very wrong to Tarnish this Beautifull State!!! Whatever happened was in the heat of the moment,” Shaan tweeted.

Javed Akhtar defends Rajkumar Hirani, says he is the most decent person in the industry

Published

on

Veteran screenwriter Javed Akhtar is the latest from Bollywood to come out in defence of filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani, calling him the “most decent” person in the industry. Hirani is the latest name to be called out for sexual harassment.

Akhtar took to Twitter to offer his support to the embattled director, who has categorically denied the allegations. “I had come to the film industry in 1965. After the many years, if I am asked who the most decent people are in this industry over almost, perhaps the first name that will come to my mind is RAJU HIRANI. GB Shaw has said. ‘It is too dangerous to be too good,'” the screenwriter wrote.

Hirani, known for his message-driven dramas such as “Munnabhai” series, “3 Idiots” and “PK”, has been accused of sexual assault by a woman who worked with him on his 2018 film “Sanju”. In an article on HuffPost India, the woman, who calls herself “an assistant”, alleged that Hirani sexually abused her more than once between March and September 2018. She detailed her allegations in an email dated November 3, 2018, to Hirani’s frequent collaborator and “Sanju” co-producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra.

The filmmaker, in a statement, called the allegation false, malicious and mischievous, which has the sole intention of destroying his reputation. While the industry has largely been silent on the latest #MeToo case, Hirani’s previous collaborators Arshad Warsi, Dia Mirza and Sharman Joshi have batted for the filmmaker.

Arshad, who found critical acclaim and love for his portrayal of Circuit in Hirani’s “Munna Bhai” series, described the filmmaker as a “polite, nice and correct” person. “I find it wrong to condemn somebody without proper proof or investigation. I would like to know the credibility of the accusation. Till all that is clear, I feel it is not right to accuse someone. I believe in innocent until proven guilty, not the other way around. Unfortunately, we just jump to conclusions,” Warsi told PTI.

Dia, who worked with Hirani on films “Lage Raho Munna Bhai” and “Sanju”, said she was “deeply distressed” by the allegations as the director was someone she respects a lot. The actor said she hopes a due official enquiry is conducted in the matter.

“I am deeply distressed by this news. As someone who has known and respects Raju Sir for 15 years I can only hope that a due official enquiry is conducted. He is one of the most decent human beings I have ever worked with and I think it would be grossly unjust on my part to speak on this as I do not know the details. As for the #MeToo movement, it rightfully encourages women to speak up and seek due process,” Dia told PTI.

Sharman, whose portrayal of Raju Rastogi in Hirani’s blockbuster “3 idiots” became immensely popular, hoped the phase the director is going through currently will pass.”Raju Sir, is a man of immense integrity, character, honour, compassion and truthfulness, all the virtues one would imagine are non existent in people today, someone I am absolutely inspired by and have learnt from and because of whom I believe I have gone onto being a better person. All I want to say is that this too shall pass and I can imagine how demeaning it might be to even stand up for yourself in a situation such as this,” the actor told PTI.

Sharman had also offered support to the filmmaker on Twitter, using the #IStandForRajuHirani. India’s #MeToo storm has engulfed many a stalwart such as Nana Patekar, Alok Nath, Vikas Bahl, Sajid Khan and former Union minister M J Akbar.

Get ready to salute! Salman Khan’s ‘Bharat’ teaser will be unveiled on this day

Published

on

Salman Khan starrer Bharat has taken its level up ever since it was announced. The director of this film, Ali Abbas Zafar, constantly shared stills from the movie, from romance between Salman and Katrina Kaif, to Bhaijaan’s deadly action sequence. With every photo, our heart skipped a beat and we wanted more.

After a month of delay in the teaser, Salman now shared a dialogue promo from the film, captioning it, “Kuch Rishte Zameen se hote hai.. Aur kuch Khoon se…Mere Paas Dono Thee!”

As much as us, the fans were disappointed after Ali announced that he would unveil the teaser on Salman’s birthday but did not. However, Ali got even better news (in a cryptic way). He stated that the teaser will be unveiled on Republic Day because of a special reason.

“All the @BeingSalmanKhan fans, don’t lose your hearts, it was our conscious decision not to release anything about @Bharat_TheFilm on Bhai’s birthday, we are still shooting the film, Naye saal mein nayi film ki baat karegein, Naam Bharat hai ..date bhi special Hogi,” he had written.

Peeping Moon confirmed the news and also stated that the teaser is currently being edited and those who have seen rushes of it are drooling over the outcome. “The teaser has everything you want from a Salman film. But apart from that, it also has that strong content vibe which will make even non-Salman fans wait for the film. Presenting a content film in a massy Salman Khan style has been the USP of Ali Abbas Zafar and he creates that magic again with Bharat,” a source told the portal.

Also adding that Bharat is more real than Sultan and Tiger Zinda Hai, the source added, “The teaser is believed to have some amazing dialogues and stunning visuals. One of the dialogues that begins with the line, ‘Jante ho mere maa baba ne mera naam Bharat kyun rakha tha?’ will give you goose bumps.”

Bharat, also starring Tabu, Disha Patani, Jackie Shroff, Sonali Kulkarni, Nora Fatehi and Aashif Sheikh is an official adaptation of the 2014 Korean film An Ode to My Father and is slated to release on June 5.

Popular comedian Sunil Grover‘s ‘Kanpur Wale Khuranas‘ is all set to shut its shop. While the reason is not the ratings of the show, Sunil’s quick departure has left many puzzled. The show which premiered in December, went on only for 16 episodes.

In an interview with Pinkvilla, Sunil revealed the real reason behind his decision: “It is because of me. I had signed the show for 8 weeks ONLY because my dates were locked for Bharat (Salman Khan’s film), the movie. I had made this clear even during the press conference and interviews that I could only accommodate this much time. I am kickstarting the last leg of shoot for Bharat from today, and I just want to thank the team who made this show happen including the channel and the guests who accommodated dates because of my schedule.”

Now as per a report in IBT, walking out of ‘Kanpur Wale Khuranas’ might open old, familiar doors for Sunil. It’s being said that Sunil might join Kapil Sharma‘s show once he wraps up Salman Khan‘s ‘Bharat‘.

Kapil has always maintained that the doors to his shows will always remain open for Sunil Paaji. He had also extended personal invites to Sunil for his wedding, but he couldn’t attend due to prior work commitments. Sunil had later congratulated the couple on social media.

However, his latest tweet for Kapil’s mother might be an indication of their reunion. It was earlier reported that Salman, who is co-producing – The Kapil Sharma Show – this season is also keen on Sunil joining the show.

KGF becomes first commercial Kannada film to release in Pakistan

Published

on

In a proud moment for the blooming South Indian industry, the Sandalwood film KGF has opened doors to the Kannada film industry release in India’s neighboring country Pakistan. It is the first ever Kannada film, a commercial film, which, even though had a release in the Gulf, is now set to witness the reactions from Pakistan. Prior to this, Rajinikanth starrer Enthiran 2.0, backed by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productionsalong with Lyca Productions, released in Pakistan.

Confirming the release, Harish Mallya, a film reviewer and one of the organisers of the Bangalore Film Festival, told The News Minute, “The film was released on Friday in Pakistan and from the executive producer, we hear that it is running well. They have released the Hindi dubbed version of the movie and it is being received well across several multiplexes in Lahore and Islamabad. We understand it is doing quite well, although the distributors have not shared exact box office collection.”

“There is a lot of appreciation and almost a similar form of interest that was noticed in rest of the country,” he added, “This is the first Kannada film getting screened in Pakistan officially. Before this, there was a talk about Pawan Kumar’s Lucia being released but eventually it was restricted only to film festivals.”

Chennai-based Sreedhar Pillai, noted box office tracker and film writer told the publication, “The first half of KGF was set in Mumbai. So it has a north Indian connect. Nativity matters in films that are dubbed. A south Indian village-based subject might not do well if it is dubbed in north India. Also the subject of mining is something that people in Pakistan too can connect with. And the film has plenty of action, which is a universal favourite.”

Made on a scale as grand as Baahubali, superstarYash’s KGF, backed by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment, released in Indian theatres on the eve of Christmas along with Shah Rukh Khan starrer Zero and has broken Box Office records here. We will now have to wait and watch how will the film be received in Pakistan.

Nine arrested for vandalising Kolkata multiplex during screening of The Accidental Prime Minister

Published

on

Nine protestors have been arrested on Saturday for holding a demonstration against the screening of ‘The Accidental Prime Minister’ inside a cineplex in Kolkata. A video of the incident was recently made public by ANI. In the clip, a group of protestors can be seen moving around the mall sloganeering against the screening of the movie.
The protestors can be heard shouting slogans against actor Anupam Kher, who played the lead role in the movie. The Congress protest against the screening of the movie was organised on Thursday, during the evening show inside the Quest INOX Cineplex.
Earlier on Friday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had asserted that the Anupam Kher-starrer ‘The Accidental Prime Minister’ was made with an intention to distort facts and keeping the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in mind. Firing a fresh salvo at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, she had asserted that a movie titled ‘Disastrous Prime Minister’ should also be made.
The Manmohan Singh biopic drew a lot of flak from the Congress party, even before the movie hit the theatres. Maharashtra Youth Congress, in December, had raised objections over the film and demanded its special screening to ensure that none of the scenes are factually incorrect.
The film is based on facts chronicled in a book by Sanjaya Baru – Manmohan Singh’s media advisor between 2004 and 2008. It revolves around Singh’s life, the economist and politician who served as the Prime Minister of India from 2004 to 2014 under the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government.

BCCI serves showcause notice to Hardik Pandya, KL Rahul for comments on ‘Koffee With Karan’

Published

on

Indian cricketers Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul were Wednesday issued show cause notices by the BCCI for their comments on women on a TV show that triggered a massive outrage and might prompt the Board to bar players from such appearances.

Pandya, whose remarks on Koffee with Karan were criticised as sexist, apologised for his remarks, saying he got “carried away by the nature” of the show. Rahul, on the other hand, has not yet responded to the criticism.

“We have sent showcause notices to Hardik Pandya and K L Rahul for their comments. They have been given 24 hours to give an explanation,” Chairman of the Committee of Administrators that runs the BCCI, Vinod Rai, told PTI.

The 25-year-old all-rounder and Rahul appeared on the celebrity chat show, hosted by film-maker Karan Johar, together.

Taking to Twitter, Pandya posted, “After reflecting on my comments on Koffee with Karan, I would like to apologise to everyone concerned who I may have hurt in any way. Honestly, I got a bit carried away with the nature of the show. In no way did I mean to disrespect or hurt anyone’s sentiments. Respect.”

On the show, Pandya boasted about hooking up with multiple women and also how open he has been about it with his parents.

When asked why he didn’t ask women their name in a club, Pandya responded by saying, “I like to watch and observe how they (women) move. I’m little from the black side so I need to see how they move.”

Criticism started coming Pandya’s way soon after and it is learnt that he was ticked off by the BCCI top brass.

According to a source, his comments were deemed “crass and cringeworthy” and might have a bearing on whether Indian cricketers appear on “such non-cricket shows” after this.

“It will be considered whether players should even be allowed to appear on such shows which have got nothing to do with cricket,” a BCCI source told PTI.

Pandya is currently with the Indian team in Australia where it recently recorded a historic maiden Test series win.

Pandya had joined the team before the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne after recovering from a back injury which he had suffered during the Asia Cup in UAE last year.

He will be seen in action in the three-match ODI series against Australia which starts on January 12 in Sydney.

Alok Nath granted bail in rape case; court says ‘Vinta Nanda accused actor for her own benefit

Published

on

The whole nation was shook when Bollywood’s most Sanskari babuji Alok Nath was dragged as one of the names accused under #MeToomovement. In her Facebook post, his old friend and producer Vinta Nanda accused the actor of raping her 19 years ago. The actor was booked under sections 376 (rape) and 377 (unnatural sex) of Indian Penal Code. On Wednesday, he receivedanticipatory bail

This happened after the hearing when the court observed that Vinta Nanda did not lodge the report immediately after the alleged incident for her own benefit and that the possibility of the applicant [Alok Nath] being falsely accused in the crime cannot be ruled out.

The victim Nanda, who claims that the crime took place 19 years ago, did not file a case against Nath then as she was told that no one would believe her story since Alok Nath is a big actor. Apart from this reason, the sessions court observed that there is “no record showing that Nath had given any threat or made any promise against lodging a report”.

According to media reports, the court further added that Alok Nath might be falsely accused of the crime since Nath’s lawyer argued that Nanda “remembers the entire incident but she did not remember the date and month of the incident”.

More so, since it has been 19 years to the incident and now both Nath and Nanda are married to their respective partners, Nath’s medical examination would be a mere ‘formality’.

Although Nath has been granted bail by the court on Saturday, he still could not visit Nanda’s house or threaten and/or bribe anyone associated with the case.

Once Nanda’s post went viral amidst the rage of #MeToo, Nath had filed a defamation suit against her, post which she filed an FIR alleging rape.
