Delhites the worst sufferer of Yamuna pollution/ NGT angry over govt’s inaction

Published

on

Pollution is an issue which is directly connected with the lives of the citizens whether it’s the environmental pollution sound pollution or pollution of the rivers. Delhi these days is in the grip of polluted air due to just concluded Deepawali but even before and after the festival of cracker it’s creating havoc with the lives of its citizens as Delhites suffer the worst in terms of air and water pollution.

Hardly have we come out of the environmental pollution after Deepawali atleast minutely the National Green Tribunal which always takes care of the peoples’ health through its revolutionery orders to descipline and caution the pollution control agencies and government departments has yesterday casted serious aspersion on the Delhi government, the Delhi jal Board and other departments like DDA for not adequately complying with its orders to clean the river Yamuna and the major Najafgarh, Barapullah and other drains of Delhi whose untrated highly poisonous and hazardous water in myriad quantity flows into Yamuna to make it a river with poisonous pollutants highly disastrous for the health of Delhi citizens.

The 6000 crore project of the Delhi government under the charge of the then minister of Delhi government Kapil Mishra who is no more in AAP has gone into rough weather after the Delhi government had started an inquiry over the alleged corruption of several crores in DJB in connection with the water treatment plants to be constructed in cleaning of the bad water of the Najafgarh and other major drains of Delhi whose unsilted and higly poisionous water flows into river Yamuna.

The Delhi government has last year allocated the necessary fund to DJB for clean Yamuna programme but got inordinately delayed inviting the wrath of the NGT. Number of attempts were also made earlier to clean Yamuna through world bank aid of Rs 1500 crores but large scale mismanagement and corruption led to the Yamuna river being more polluted even today. Number of NGOS too get enough funds from the governmental sources but of no avail.

The condition of Yamuna at Nigam Bodh Ghat side where cremations take place is quite aweful with tons of heaps of waste materials, plastics, waste clothings , and even half burned bodies lying unattended and eaten by stray dogs could be witnessed at isolated river side spots. Hundreds of idols during Durga Puja, Ganeshotsav etc are immersed in Yamuna. Hundreds of thousands of litres of poisonous water from the drains of various parts of Delhi is flowed into Yamuna with no regulation.

The NGT has been issuing stringent directives and imposing heavy fines on the defaulters but the action at the level of the state authorities is so complacent and ignorant that the matter of YAMUNA cleansing gets delayed year after year and by the time the governments, officials and situations change.

But this time the NGT judge Swantra Kumar is extremely serious and has asked the CEO of Delhi Jal Board to file the reply in 10 days as to when would they finally finish the rejuvenation of Yamuna programme.

CHIDAMBARAM IN DISARRAY. WILL THE CHARGES AGAINST HIM BE FINALLY PROVED ?

Published

Scandals, cases of scams, disproportionate assets and corruption are not new in politics. During the era of the former prime minister Indira Gandhi the Tulmohan Ram and Naagarwala scandals including the unearthing of Rs. 3 crores from the then minister of telecommunication Sukhram during the UPA rule rocked parliament followed by good number of scams like the coal and common wealth corruption scandals and alleged disproportionate asset cases against leaders like Mulayam Singh Yadav, Mayavati and the then union steel minister Virbhadra Singh etc have led us to the conclusion that scams in politics are like CHOLI DAMAN KA SAATH with politicians of the country.

Its a worldwide phenomena as well. While political parties in the opposition trade charges of political vindictiveness against the government in power at the centre to witch hunt their political foes misusing the investigative agencies, the same ruling party when dethroned from power repeat the same charge of political vendetta against the opposition when it comes to power.

This trend is going on for the last 70 years since we achieved independence but seldom are the political defaulters usually punished except in negligible cases. How, in some of most sensitive cases the highly responsible agencies like CBI and ED had proved to incompetent can be easily gauged from the accquital of the former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi in the most hyped Bofors case which changed governments and the recent controvertial Maxis Aircel and 2G spectrum case in which the the prime accused like former telecom minister G Raja, DMK leader Karunanidhi’s daughter n MP Kanimojhi and Daya nidhi Maaran etc got scot free after so much of hullaballoo and the then opposition exlpoiting such issues to the hilt to come to power at the centre.

Such instances of the acquittals of the prime accused only leads one to the conclusion of witch hunt by the government in power. When the National Herald case against Sonia , Rahul Gandhi and veteran leader and Congress treasurer Moti Lal Vohra were instituted during the curent political dispensation followed by the alleged involvement of the former finance minister P Chidambaram the Congress party created uproar in the both houses of parliament accusing the BJP led NDA government of political witch hunt to intentionally demoralise and harrass its arch political opponents.

The registration of the CBI case against P. Chidambaran just a day befor the tabling of the no confidence motion in the Lok Sabha has been labelled by the Congress party and UPA as taking political revenge from its arch political detractors.

The CBI case has been registered against the former union finance minister P. Chidambran and his son for illegally favouring the Maxis Aircell company of Mauritius by way of granting it official permission to invest Rs 3500 crores in contravention of the rules and regulations of Foreign Invention Promotion Board as the finance minister is only entitled to give the clearence upto the limit of Rs. 600 crores.

Any over limit than 600 crores requires the due approval of the cabinet committee on economic affairs which was not sought by Chidambaran while arbitrarily crossing his discreationery limit of approval. Not only this but after the approval granted by the minister finance Chidambaram’s son who was allegedly acting as a conduit to the Aircell Maxis Company, received several lakh rupees in his bank account which the investigative agency considers as the bribe given to him at the behest of his father, the then finance minister by the said company.

According to the CBI’s version, while registering the case against P. Chidamram, the latter has deliberately and knowing committed this illegal act or irregularity to help his son in league with the officials of the Foreigh Investment Promotion Board.

The matter is currently in the court of law and as such the fate of Chidamram lies in the court’s future judgement. But one thing is for sure that the way the prime investigation agency has been under question for the acquittal of several scamsters in the past its’ usually considered that involvement of white caller politicians is seldom proved?

Let’s see whether the agency is able to prove its worth by winning this case hands down and finally proving that its not a political witch hunt but a genuine and transparent case of misuse of power and position to favour a company with arbitrary and unfair means. What’s your take friends?

Highly laudable ambivalent gesture by the Addl Chief Delhi High Court Justice Gita Mittal

Published

on

The judiciary and the fourth estate of our country are indeed remarkable. There may be difference of opinions in an open democracy about the faith of section of the people in these institutions or about their style of functioning but as far as my personal opinion is concerned I have full confidence and trust in both of them except few negligible instances pertaining to various controversies taking place from time to time.

There are hundreds of examples that whenever the nation’s executive have failed to exercise their duties as per the constitutional norms it’s the forth estate and the judiciary that have played their vital role in highlighting the injustices confronted by the people and the judiciary intervening at an appropritate time to deliever due justice to the aggrieved whether it’s the trivial and most vexed issue of the the controvertial Jessica Lal murder case, the despicable killing of Nitish Katara or the 2012 Nirbhaya episode.

In all these most sensitive, shocking and anguishing cases of national and international concern ot was primarily the media and judicial trial that provided justice to the bereaved families resulting in change of governments and influencing public mindset to the core. As a sequel to these pro people judicial interventions a novel example of the judicial humility and ambivalence have been noticed, felt and experienced on 21st of July in Delhi High Court when the additional chief justice Gita Mittal stopped her hear in one of the ongoing matter in her court when parents and their children entered the courtroom with a request to issue directives to Delhi government to admit their 10 to 15 year old children in the government schools of Delhi who had been denied addmissions in various classes thus playing with their future.

On seeing about 52 children aged between 12 to 15 years in their school uniforms entering her courtroom peacefully the sombre, affable and ambivalent additional chief justice of Delhi High Court not only stopped the hearing of the ongoing case in between but also directed her private secretary to immediately arange snacks ( samosas) and cold drinks for the entire lot of school children.

She then patiently heart the plight of the distressed children and their parents and after feeling convinced of their genuine plight took immediate congnisance of their plight and issued urgent directives to the Delhi government to admit all the four hundred students in their respective schools under intimation to the court at the earliest possible.

The court was of the opinion that no government has any right to play with the future of the students and as such it is bound to admit these students in their respective classes and schools forthwith. It may be recalled that the Right to Education, an act enacted by the central government makes it mandatory for all the state and the union government to deliever free and compulsory education at least up to twelth standard in all the government and government aided schols of the country and this ambivalent gesture of the additional chief justice and two other justices deserve fullest appreciation and kudos for comig to the rescue of 400 children ofDelh8 wh were denied addmission in government schools for one reason or the other.

It is apt to menton here that the Delhi High Court Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal is the first woman in the field of law and justice to have been brstowed with the presigious ‘Nari Shakti Puraskar’, one of the India’s highest civilian honour for women.

The coveted Nari Shakti award was presented to her for her exemplary contribution in the upliftment of women community of the country. The award was presented to her in a private ceremony by the President at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on International Women’s Day.

Justice Mittal, who took over as Acting Chief Justice after the retirement of Justice G Rohini in April last year, has introduced many welcome changes in the functioning of the Delhi High Court. She has been closely monitoring the dispensation of justice in Delhi and has also initiated a clean-up drive of the lower judiciary.

RAHUL’S WINKING AND HUGGING THE PM SURPRISE ONE AND ALL

Published

on

In a rare gesture of decency, political flexibility and outstanding diplomacy the Congress president Rahul Gandhi to the utter surprise and shock of prime minister Narendra Modi went to the latter’s front row seat at the treasury benches in the Lok Sabha and hugged him in front of cameras’ making the prime minister stunned for a moment.

Another picture of his blinking his eyes after the speech has also become viral in the social networking sites like facebook, twitter and whatsapp reminding everyone of the South Indian actress who too became globally popular for her eye blinking style.

This rare and decent gesture of Congress president Rahul Gandhi after finishing his aggressive, fiery and to some extent a humorous speech levelling several serious charges of favoritism to the ultra rich and not caring for the poor and controvertial Rafael deal against Modi has infact established a healthy trend of morality and ambivalent gesture in the parliamentary history of the country though in the past too leaders like Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya and Jawahar Lal Nehru etc despite being one another’s arch political rivals used to talk, hug, and dine together.

But since the last two, three decades this trend of mutual trust, amity and brotherhood was missing to a great extent.

After Rahul went to the prime minister’s seat and expressed his gratitude stunned Modi shook hands with Rahul after a generous hug to the surprise and shock of one and all.

The entire television channels of the country are exhibiting this picture as a rare display of humanity and parliamentary decency with Congress and BJP leaders busy in tweets making it more humorous from their own ideological points of view.

In one of the tweets Tejaswi Uadav, Laloo’s son and leader of Janata Dal had loaded a picture of Rahul winking in parliament tweeting : Oh that wink my friend, Hit them (BJP) hard where it hurts. Congratulations for unearthing their mines of lies. Fantastic speech.

Another Rahul fan tweets: Our leader #RahulGandhi is an inherently decent person. Hugs the PM though we are on opposite sides. PM Modi says sabka saath but can’t embrace those lynched by mobs inspired by RSS-BJP politics. #NoConfidenceMotion.

Similarly Indian Express tweets : By coming back to his seat Rahul Gandhi emphasised that by his act of embracing prime minister Narendra Modi he wanted to show the difference between the ideology of the Congress and the BJP.

Zindagi ke safar mein guzar jaate hain jo mukaam, vo phir nahi aate! Today is Kaka’s 6th death anniversary

Published

on

Today is the sixth death anniversary of an original super star of India film industry, Bollywood, Rajesh Khanna aka Kakaji, a superstar par excellence, an actor incomparable, an outstanding phenomena, a king of histrionics and a large hearted decent human being who on this day left for his eternal home leaving his billions of followers and fans in grief.

Rajesh Khanna the acting and style legend is earnestly born once in a century who leave his indelible mark on everybody’s mind and heart for years and years to come.

Though Kaka is not with us physically today but his super duper hit films, his mesmerising acting, stylish appearence and songs still entertain crores of his fans worldwide.

As Sachin Tendulkar is a God of Indian cricket so is Kaka is to his fans around the globe.

Born in Amritsar and adopted by the near relative Kaka hailed from a business family who outstandingly qualified himself in first position amongst the 10000 competetors in an artist talent hunt competetion in Mumbai during the seventies, never to look back thereafter.

Starting as a debut hero from Akhiri Khat or Akhiri Rasta, am not pretty sure, handsome with an outstanding God gifted personality originally Jatin Khanna, Kaka gave 15 super duper hits in a row from 1969 to 1974 followed by his other movies establishing a record of sorts in the Mumbai film industry.

He in all acted in about 225 films and was such a popular hero of his time that college girls used to kiss his ampala car in abundance, marry him in dreams n real life and wrote letters with their own blood.

Some of his movies like Amar Prem, Hathi Mere Sathi, Amar Prem, Anand, Safar, Avishkar, Kati Patang, Aan Milo Sajna, Dushman, Aap Ki Kasam, Roti, Prem Kahani etc etc impressed his fans tremendously thus leaving an impressive mark on their minds and hearts.

After Anand and Namak Haram Kaka’s downslide started coming with a ferocious speed.

He joined active politics on the personal request of the then prime minister Rajiv Gandhi and became the member of parliament from New Delhi, first having been defeated by the BJP stalwart L. K. Advani by merely 15000 votes and then winning against actor Shatrughan Sinha with a handsome margin from New Delhi.

Kaka dated two actresses during his life time, one Anju Mahendru before marriage and Tina Munim after marriage with whom he also acted in ALAG ALAG, his home production.

Though Kaka led a magnificient life of a super star during his hey days but was a lonely man at the last lap of his life shuttling between Delhi’s Sarvpriya Vihar residence and Ashirvaad in Mumbai.

He had special liking for ASHIRVAD, his magnificient bunglow facing the sea at Carter Road. His fans used to wait for a single glimpse of his, outside his house in Mumbai for hours together, such was his towering aura and ambience and when the girls used to see his Ampala they kissed it thinking that they have kissed the super star.

Kaka was a great fan of Rajiv Gandhi and Rajiv was his, which very few people know.

He purchased Ashirvaad Bunglow from the veteran actor Rajendra Kumar, then famous as jubilee kumar as his every film used to be a hit then.

Kaka signed Hathi Mere Sathi and asked the South Indian producer to give him an advance payment. He received Rs. five lakhs then as an advance payment which he gave to Rajendra Kumar for Ashirvaad which was then named as Dimple.

Rajendra kumar considered this house as inauspicious as his down fall started from here while for Kaka, Ashirvaad was too lucky.

Kakaji developed strained relations with Dimple Kapadia as he was against her working in films which she objected to.

Though Dimple Kapadia served Kaka during his last days while he was ill, Kaka named his will of property and entire wealth in the name of her both the daughters Twinkle and Rinki with not a single pie to Dimple, his legally wedded life.

Kaka was highly desirous and it was his long cherished dream to make ASHIRVAAD his museum but fate has something else stored for the future. Since the last controvertial women who lived with Kaka during the last leg of his life Anita Gidwani had claimed a part of the Ashirvaad for having been with the star in his thick and thin, Akshay Kumar and Dimple sold the house to the builders to keep themselves free from the impending controversy n dispute.

Kaka, might definitely been weeping in heaven for his Bangalows destruction which he wanted to be his museum.

My heartfelt rich tributes to this towering superstar of his time with the pray to God that his pious soul rests in peace for ever.

Has Nehru Gandhi scion opened the pandoras’ box ?

Published

Has Rahul opened the Pandora’s Box?

As the general elections of 2019 are nearing the manipulations and maneuverings to capture the large chunks of votes on religious or communal lines by the two national political parties viz the Congress and BJP has come to the fore with their key leaders leaving no stone unturned to polarise the society in their own respective ways.

The media too is trying to hype this crucial issue to give further weightage to such trivial and complex issue beyond limits to enhance its TRP thus helping in a way to divide the society.

All of us know very specifically that the Congress party has been banking on the vote bank of the minorities, the dalits and backwards for the last several decades right from the era of late Mrs Indira Gandhi and the BJP earlier Jana Sangh depending majorly in the majority community votes with construction Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, restoring the pride of the Hindus, uniform civil code, abrogation of article 370 etc being its core issues to beget votes during elections.

For the last two, three decades the major muslim vote bank as well as the traditional votes of the SC and ST got badly distracted from the Congress Party thus going in the lap of the Samajwadi Party and BSP being led by Mulayam Singh Yadav and Bahan Mayavati. As a result the major states like Uttar Pradesh giving 80 MPs to Lok Sabha and half of Rajya Sabha MPs including Bihar, Assam, MP, Rajasthan, Chattisgarh etc has gone to BSP, SP, Janata Dal ( Nitish – BJP combine) and now to BJP having in all lost 20 states to the saffron party, thus having its negligible presence in the country.

In India the votes of the muslims have been playing an extremely crucial role in formation of governments in states and the centre. India has a whopping 180 million muslim population with having thier credible say in almost 218 parliamentary seats of the country. It may be even more if we get the report of the latest census. However, according to the 2011 census India has about 79% non muslim population whereas the muslims account for over 15%.

As per the conservative estimate the muslims possess 10 % influence in the vote share process in every constituency of the country on an average and is considered to be a consolidated voting pattern with the largest state UP having approximately 22% muslim votes impacting several constituencies of assembly as well as the parliament.

Since then, the Nehru Gandhi scion and the Congress Chief Rahul Gandhi have been trying his utmost to ensure that this majority chunk of its traditional vote bank comes back into the Congress Party’s fold and with this intent in mind he convened an interactive session of a handful of ( 12 persons) intellectuals who also included former senior most bureaucrats on 11 th of June at his Tuglak Road residence in New Delhi.

During the interaction amongst other issues somebody raised the matter pertaining to the increasing incidents of lynching of people of a particular community on various pretexts like cow vigilantism, eating habits and prevalance of hate atmosphere in the country asking Rahul Gandhi as to what is the Congress party doing to protect the minorities of the country ? or something related to the context.

Issues pertaining to Sachchar Commisions recommendations were also raised during this closed door meeting to which Rahul tried to assured the soured tempers. While replying to these questions Rahul Gandhi catagorically said that the Congress Party had been the only genuine saviour of the Muslim community since its inception and that it considers it its primary and foremost duty to protect their every interest, whatsoever by all means in the same manner as it’s concerned for the dalits, backwards and the down trodden sections of the country.

He added that instead of appreciating its pro minority gesture parties like BJP accuse it as the party of the muslims and he further added if it says so YES, I have no hesitation to say that we are the party of muslims because protecting the minorities or any other deprived sections of the society, is our primary, foremost n the constitutional duty.

Though the meeting was a highly secretive one and not open for reporting or media, someone present in the meeting leaked the news to INQUILAB, a prominent Urdu paper of the country extremely popular amongst the muslim community. Subsequently, it published the front top banner news highlighting Rahul’s statement titled as : Haan Congress Musalmaanon ki party hai.

Then what, all hell broke out and the entire television channels and the print media carried out banner news followed by unaccounted live debates with even prime minister Narendra Modi questioning publicly the Nehru Gandhi scion at Azamgarh asking hum if the Congress party really the party of only muslims, meaning what about others like the majority community and other sections of the society.

While this move of Rahul Gandhi, say the political analysts, will for sure, help in consolidating the minority vote bank all over the country in Congress’s favour the way prime minister Modi used the issue in his largely attended public meeting may in future result in large scale polarisation of the majority vote bank thus cutting across the caste considerations in the saffron party’s favour.

Sometimes, in politics a little non issue becomes a huge issue that carries further unexpected implications and ramifications and it seems that Rahul Gandhi’s statement may perhaps go a long way in creating a vast division between these two communities in order to derive maximum political mileage during the national electionsof 2019 by the major political parties in the fray.

The minority vote bank of the muslims plays a credible role in the politics of the country for parties like Congress, SP, BSP, RJD, Janata Dals and the left but it has been visualised and experienced that after the charismatic leadership of Narendra Modi and the vast influence of the saffronisation after 2014 the deflection in the votes of muslim and the wave of majoritarianism has crushed every calculation thus enabling the saffron party win in 20 states incessantly n Congress losing badly at the hustings.

However, after the not much success of demonetisation, GST, and the subsequent failure on the employment and price rise fronts including the Kashmir issue the Modi factor seems to be on somewhat declining trend though after giving certain concessions to the farmers of the country on maximum support price etc the BJP led NDA government is trying hard to win the hearts of the farming community which is also considered to be the deciding vote bank.

Anyways, whatever may be the outcome of the 2019 elections but one thing is still for sure and that is Modi still seems to have a upper hand with his outstanding dynamic histronics and marketing skills.

If at all Rahul Gandhi and rest of the non BJP forces need to come to power at the centre, they have only one n one option of a united opposition with a singularly unanimously accepted leader who can challange him outrightly and with credible dynamism and precision. But this has to fructify fast as the time is running expeditiously and 2019 nearing with a galloping speed. What’s your take friends?

HAS RAHUL’S INITIATIVE OF MEETING MUSLIM INTELLECTUALS BOOMERANGED?

Published

on

For a politician who is under the most sensitive security cover and the chief of the 135 year old party having ruled the country for more than 60 years after independence, taking out two hours time for an exclusive interaction with merely twelve gentlemen of the muslim community, not all Congressmen is an issue that bears immense significance.

Just few days ago on 11th July, Rahul Gandhi was modest enough to meet about 12 eminent muslim faces at his 12 Tuglaq Road house who were’nt the hard core Muslim or Maulvies but people with educative backgrounds, the liberal and progressive muslims viz. ex bureaucrats, NGO activists, writers, theatre activists, ex youth and student leaders, advocates, educationists, entrepreneurs, journalists and social activists.

Nobody was allowed to carry their mobiles inside nor was the meeting bearing any definite agenda. It was purely a sequential interactive session discussing issues of security of the minorities and the role of Indian muslims in nation building or say the reason behind the loss of faith of minorities in the Congress and how to recover or rejuvenate that lost faith bla bla bla.

Insiders say Rahul looked too matured, happy and interactive wearing a jeans n shirt with the growing beard as if not shaven for at least three days.

The meeting with muslim colleagues primarily seemed to be an initiative of the youthful Congress chief to learn and analyse the mindset of these persons of eminence in their own fields who were necessarily not the enrolled Congress members, may be sympathisers.

Several things were interacted after the formal introduction right from the issues like the prevailing sense of insecurity amongst the minorities since the last 4 years with reference to the incidents of lynchings of journalists and people of the particular community in the name of cow vigilantism etc.

To this Rahul asked them as to why should a minority not act as a brave person in equanimity with other majority community people and confront the tirades courageously while assuring them that the Congress party and leadership had always stood with them in the thick and thin , the Dalits , women and the backwards and would continue to do so with more vigour and vitality in the near future as well.

One of the participant in this interactive session Z K Faizan who’d been a close associate of late political stalwart and a greatest secularist of his time H. N. Bahuguna and President of AMU during 1975 to 1977, said that this interactive session with Rahul Gandhi was extremely cordial, perfect, excellent and heart warming as the latter was not only very acknowledging and receptive but also discussed various issues very freely and threadbare like a friend.

In one of the reference Rahul gave an example to exhibit how fastly the incumbent government is losing its credibility and popularity, particularly amongst the poor and the lowest sections of thesociety. Rahul said: one day while I was travelling in Delhi my car got entangled in a traffic jam for a while. Meanwhile an auto rickshaw driver recognised him and started waving at me( Rahul). I rolled down my windscreen despite security’s objection and asked the auto driver: AAP KAISE HAIN, to which he replied SAHAB IS RAAJ MEIN BAHUT BURE HAAL HO GAYE HAIN, GARIB PISTA JAA RAHA HAI, HAMAARI KOI SUNNE VALA NAHI HAI. HUM BARBAADHO GAYE HAIN. Rahul asked him: chunav mein kisko vote karoge, the angry auto rickshaw driver said SAHAB KISI BHI BHI KARENGE PAR BJP KO NAHI KARENGE, CHAAHE KUCH BHI HO JAAYE …. using the unparliamentary words.

He thereafter repeatedly and emphatically said that the BJP led NDA nor Narendra Modi are going to repeat in 2019 irrespective of the fact that which party or political conglomeration rules the country.

Such is the downward slide of this government said Rahul while interacting with the invitees. Rahul was also questioned about the supposed tie up with SHIV SENA as being given to understand in the forthcoming non BJP opposition unity initiative to which he replied in negative saying : the Congress will have to seek a second birth to do so.

On the Sachchar Commission’s recommendations that genuinely higlighted the plight of the muslim community asking the succesive governments to do the needful to improve thei lot of muslims around the country, Rahul Gandhi replied that it was primarily the Congress government which majorly implemented its recommendations but was out of power by then and therefore could’nt fulfil all the remaining recommendations.

He said it’s the Congress party that always thinks of the financial, socio political, educational, industrial, and over all welfare and well being of the minorities and that’s the reason its arch political rivals terms it as the party of muslims. He said : he feels delighted to be called so. There had been lots’ of debate on this addmission of Rahul Gandhi as one of the Urdu paper highlighted this issue as its banner news, later picked by every television Channel.

On the issue of the non BJP national unity to credibly counter BJP majority of the muslim participants were of the view that if Narendra Modi and his NDA is to be credibly countered in the 2019 elections the entire opposition opposed to the BJP regionally and nationally needs to be united at all costs and that Rahul Gandhi should take the cudgels of this non BJP opposition unity into his hands to which Rahul replied in affirmative but said that despite our being assiduously involved in this unity move it should be a long termed and extremely cohesive for the next five years, to the minimum and if would’nt be so things won’t really fructify in a credible manner.

According to Z K Faizan though Rahul Gandhi agrees that regional political forces are cropping up in several states and are playing an extremely pivotal role too, but to counter the spreading tentacles of the saffron party at the national scenerio strenghtening of Congress Party as a force to reckon with is utmostly essential and as such the entire non BJP opposition parties should stand consolidately behind this 135 year old party which has its sizeable presence right from Kashmir to Kanya Kumari.
Prominent amongst those present in this interactive meeting were sr advocate Supreme court , Z.K.Faizan, Journalist Farah Naqvi, Prof.Irfan Habib, Educationist M.Ilyas Malik, Economist A.Shareef, Ex.Bureaucrat MS Farooqi, Industrialist Junaid Rehman, Social activist, Haroon Ali Khan, Historian Rakhshanda Jalil, JNU Prof. Ghazala Jameel etc.

DELHI BUREAUCRATS REFUSE TO OBEY DELHI GOVT’S ORDERS ON TRANSFERS, POSTINGS

Published

on

The recent supreme court verdict giving the Delhi government of AAP led by Arvind Kejrival a clear hand to weild free power in Delhi without any interference of the LG execpt in the matters of Police, Law and Order and Land is being termed by them as a victory over the BJP ruled union government who according to them had been creating deliberate bottlenecks in the way of AAP government’s people welfare policies and initiatives through their nominee Anil Baijal, a former veteran civil servant.

However, despite the apex court according independent powers to the Delhi’s AAP government forbidding it to seek any consent on its decisions or proposals from the LG in the near future except in matters pertaining to land, police and law and orders, the Delhi civil servants have on the contrary refused to abide or obey the transfer/ posting orders of the Delhi government thus raising another fresh controversy. However, taking a strong view of the civil servants’ hostility the Delhi’s deputy chief minister has termed the non cooperation and hostility of bureaucrats as the violation of the apex court’s orders.

After the alleged attack on the Delhi’s chief secretary Anshul Prakash at the residence of the chief minister few months ago by two AAP MLAs’ when the former was asked to come for a meeting during midnight, the Delhi’s civil servants were feeling insecure and had gone on a go slow strike for three months giving up attending any meetings and answering the calls of the CM and his ministers thus compelling the latter and his three ministers to stage a nine day Dharna cum hunger strike at LG’s bungalow. This resulted in further chaos in the functioning of the AAP government.

The recent decision of the apex court has however given the Delhi government extra mileage as well as moral boost who was nearly handicapped in taking decisions with regard to the various people welfare schemes. The supreme court has, while giving its verdict, judiciously favoring the Delhi government of AAP to an extent has specifically said that the LG despite being the sole administrator of the National Capital Territory is bound to act on the advice of the council of ministers in all matters except on the subjects pertaining to the land, police and law & order ( if not necessary) as Delhi is not a full fledged state. The court however refused to give Delhi the statehood as its a central subject and solely within the purview of the union government which requires ratification from both the houses of parliament and the president of India’s outright consent.

The apex court has advised both the chief minister and the LG to work in close cordination harmoniously without any ill will or prejudiced feelings against each other.

It may be recalled that in its previous decision the Delhi High Court has termed the LG as the sole powerful administrative head of the Delhi government unambiguously saying that all decisions of the state government would be effected only by the consent and at the mercy of the LG as Delhi is not the fullfledged state. As a result the AAP government had gone to the apex court against the HC’s verdict.

After the formation of the Modi led NDA government at the centre the relations between the centre and Delhi had been at loggerheads with the Delhi CM Arvind Kejrival and his party AAP levelling charges and accusations against the prime minister Narendra Modi and his government of not letting them work deliberately and creating bottlenecks on the way of the state government’s functioning.

The former Delhi LG and renowned academician Nazeeb Jung and the current LG Anil Baijal were also at confrontation with Arvind Kejrival incessantly.

Let’s see what finally comes out of the latest verdict of the Supreme court unambiguously spelling out individual powers for Delhi’s LG and the CM in the context of Delhi government’s functioning.

While the Delhi elections are due in the initial months of 2020 both BJP and AAP are in a hurry to capture power in the national capital though the Congress Party seems to be a distant third.

After being completely misfit in the national political scene for the present, the first and formost priority of Arvind Kejrival is to recapture power in Delhi in the 2020 elections of NCT of Delhi and he is in an abrupt hurry to fulfill the unfulfilled pre election promises. He wanted to give good number of sops to the Delhi electorates but the BJP led NDA at the centre through its nominee LG are creating various impediments in the execution of various pro people proposals.

Since lot of time has already been lost on his quarrel with the centre and on infrastructural front the AAP government has literally done nothing Arvind Kejrival is desperate to implement various populist schemes to earn the support of the minorities, people of the lowest ebb, the lower middle class voters and the women and youths including the government servants. Health, transport, water, power, food and civil supplies, pensions to the poor, sr citizens, widows and handicapped sections are the main sectors where he is trying to concentrate by way of giving huge reliefs before elections. But in the absence of freedom and the obstacles of the centre he was’nt able to fully execute his decisions. Hence approached the apex court for seeking full fledged powers without the intervention of the central nominee, the LG. Let’s see whatwould be his next master stroke now?

India produces a collosal 15000 tons of plastic waste, a greatest health hazard! Let’s give up plastics

Published

on

The metropolitan cities of the country are becoming excessively overcrowded and so are other towns and cities of various states of the country.

The need for survival and non availability of job avenues compell them to throng these cities, towns and metropolises in uncontrollable numbers leading to overcrowded plains and hence excessive pollution.

The fastly depleting underground water table due to excessively enhanced water consumption and irregular rains due to global warming including massive withdrawal of underground water through electronic pumps by one and all have added to the problem multiply with no or negligible efforts or initiatives for warer conservation.

But despite all this, the uninterrupted and rampant use of plastic all over the country has assumed gigantic proportions and infinitely added to the already existing pollution woes.

India today is the highest consumer of the plastics amongst the countries of the globe despite Delhi and 17 other states having already banned the use of plastics.

The massive use of plastics through pakaging of food stuff, oils, garments, eatables, water and in other forms like plastic plates, spoons, cups and even water packets n thermocol etc in marriages and other homely functions nationally have become the hugest nuisance for the society and its population.

It’s usually said that a bottle of plastic takes over three hundred protracted years to vanish or perish and its hard plastic lids about 500 years and by the time if the use of these plastics would not be strongly countered and checked by the alternative use of soluble or perishable paper bags or jute bags compounded with the use of bamboo items etc our rivers and open drains including oceans may get converted into huge mounds or mountains of plastics.

What is more disturbing about this increasing menace is the fact that plastic production is a multi billion dollar industry worldwide with multinational companies and indigenous corporates in collaboration, earning extremely handsomely at the cost of the peoples’ health.

Lot is being said and talked about the emissions of green house gases destroying the ozone layer at the international forums but literally nothing is being talked about the rampant and uncontrollable use of plastic globally and there producers are none other but all those very countries who talk so much about lessening the green house emissions including our own politicians sitting at the helm of affairs.

Just implementing laws to ban plastic would in no way resolve this vexed issue playing with the environmental health of all the developed and developing countries of the globe but what we exactly needed is a global campaign against this dreaded menace to mobilise, awaken and enthuse populations to themselves desist from using plastics in their daily life and routine thinking considering it as the worst kind of cancer that is perrcolating expeditiously into our daily lives and the system that needs to be checked and countered extremely fast and with a duty oriented perception.

Let’ s talk of Maharashtra in this context. It has banned the use of plastic just yesterday through a legislation and Delhi did more than five years ago under the leadership of the then chief minister Shiela Dikshit imposing a heavy fine of Rs. 5000 on anybody using plastic.

But shockingly there is not an inkling of the terror of law on this count and even today the capital city of India is one of the hugest consumers of plastic as is Maharashtra, its economic capital Mumbai and several other states of the country, even those states which had banned the use of plastic quite before.

According to an editorial in HT quoting the report of the Central Pollution Control Board the Maharashtra government has enough reason to ban plastic : the state generates 1, 200 tonnes of plastic waste every day and Mumbai alone generates a collosal 500 metric tonnes which accounts for merely 10% of its total waste.

In contrast the Indian cities generate 15000 tons of plastic waste everyday of which 9000 tons is collected and processed/ recycled while the remaining 6000 tons go into the drains, blocking their incessant n seamless flow thus badly polluting the rivers into which these drains finally flow their highly toxic waste including in open streets, dumps and landfills.

So finally what’s the alternative to get rid of this huge menace that’s playing with the peoples’ health and environment. The answer is: our scientists should invent and innovate the credible alternatives to the use of plastics that are cheap and perishable and educating people creating in them the credible awareness to themselves, give up plastic though phasewise are some of the best alternatives.

The government should also stop the plastic production used in consumer durables phase wise, thus simultaneously producing the alternative materials to compensate for the shortage of plastics but with eco friendly alternatives, ofcourse. What’s your take friends?

AN UNFORGIVABLE EMERGENCY OF 1975 !

Published

on

Today is the forty third anniversary of the black chapter in the Indian political history when emergency was imposed in the country by the then prime minister Indira Gandhi after she lost to the Allahabad High Court Judgement, thus instead of resigning honourably as the country’s prime minister, preferred to impose an unconstitutional and undemocratic emergency forcibly putting all the opposition leaders of the country behind bars whether they were the leaders of the left or right barring the leaders of the Communist Party of India who solely supported this unconstitutional proclamation. It was termed as a horrible saga to capture power by crushing the constitution and democracy and the opposition still calls it an unforgivable sin.

I fondly remember how people of the country, men and women were terrorised by the police and the law enforcing agencies who misused the act and weilded their dictatorial authority to harass, victimise and terrorised the opposition party leaders and workers and even the common masses.

Late Mrs. Gandhi’s son Sanjay Gandhi was then the autocratic boss who actually run the government during the emergency phase using his dictatorial tactics on fiicers and the entire police force to ensure that his five point programmes were implemented at all costs that included plantation on a massive scale, forcible sterilization (NASBANDI) of men andd women to contrl population etc. It was during the emergency that the then DDA governor Jagmohan was ordered by Sanjay Gandhi to demolish the Turkman Gate JJ clusters and colonies housed and inhabitated by the minorities creating lots of hue and cry that made headlines of every newspapers.

Sanjay wanted a clean and systemetic Delhi irrespective of the fact whether the Congress party gets votes or not. The forcible sterilization has badly annoyed the people of the country who were even put behind bars for not fulfilling the requisite quotas of NASBANDI CASES. It was ultimately the leader of the total revolution a socialist Jay Prakash Narayan who led a movement against the draconion emergency and formed the Janata Party to overthrow Mrs. Gandhi in 1977.

However, the conglomeration of good number of anti Congress parties, national and regional, whose one point agenda was to avenge Mrs. Gandhi by putting her behind bars for only two days have generated so much of nationwide sympathy for her that after 22 months these fractured parties, who always quarrelled within themselves fell apart and the Congress Party under the leadership of Indira again came back to power at the centre with a resounding majority.

The two most significant leaders of the Congress party then, the then Defence Minister Babu Jagjiwan Ram and former UP chief Minister Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna who accorded the red carpet welcome to Indira Gandhi’s bete noire Jai Prakash Narayan in Lucknow when the former was the chief minister joined the opposition band wagon in 1977 opposing the draconion emergency and Indira Gandhi thus providing a significant impetus to the process of formation of Janata Party.

According to an authentic report of an international human rights organisation about 1 lakh 40 thousand people from all walks of life were arrested without trial and put behind bars for more than twenty months. The prime minister Narendra Modi was today in Mumbai to commemorate the 43rd anniversary of emergency which he termed as the black chapter in the India history. While addressing the audience on this black day he said: Emergency is a black spot on the golden history of the nation. Observing black day today is not just to criticise the Congress for its sin of imposing Emergency but also to create an awareness for the protection of Constitution and democracy,” PM Modi said.

Prime minister Modi further said:
“I salute the courage of all those great women and men who steadfastly resisted the Emergency, which was imposed 43 years ago. Their struggles ensured people power prevailed over authoritarianism and the stifling of civil liberties,”.
