CM TRIVENDRA RAWAT REACHES THE ACCIDENTAL SPOT, ANNOUNCES 2 LAKHS COMPENSATION TO EACH OF THE BEREAVED FAMILY

Published

on

The prime minister Narendra Modi has expressed his grief over the deaths of several bus commuters in Garhwal Uttarakhand and have assured of all possible help to the bereaved families.

The prime minister has expressed his grief and condolensces by tweeting in his twitter handle this afernoon.

After the news started appearing like wild fire in the entire electronics and print media the state Chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has taken a very serious note of the anguishing situation that claimed 48 lives and has left for the accident spot in an official chopper to see for himself the circumstances leading to this critical accident.

The chief minister has also announced the monetary compensation of Rs. two lakh each to the bereaved families of those dead though the amount seems to be too meagre for the lives lost in this fatal accident.

Meanwhile, orders for the detailed and indepth enquiry has also been issued in this regard. It may be recalled that the bus possessing the sitting capacity of merely 28 was badly overloaded and it seems that the driver had lost the balance.

Even the chief minister TS Rawat has accepted on camera that the majority of the accidents in Uttarakhand are happening due to the over loading of private buses and his government would ensure that this trend is averted in the near future.

During the last two years there have been rapid increase in the accidents of heavy vehicles in Uttarakhand but the transport department of the state has been extremely complacent and untrust worthy towards the passengers as they never penalised any bus operator or the drivers for such fatalities nor have they initiated any efforts to avert these fatal accidents.

It seems as if there is literally no administration functioning in the state. In this particular case the entire state’s political and administrative appratus including the chief minister has come into action after prime minister Narendra Modi personally intervened in the matter and expressed his grief and condolences through tweet including financially helping the bereaved families.

The traffic in the Char Dham Yatra Marg has tremendously increased in Uttarakhand and the speeding traffic of the outsiders not exactly knowing the geography of the routes and not well versed with hilly roads as well, are also also responsible for such fatal accidents.

The blind turns of hilly roads are devoid of strong iron railings and the transport department is also lacking putting indication boards and hoardings in majority of the hilly routes resulting in the tourists not able to have exact idea about various road indicators.

These days Uttarakhand is the victim of severe road accident fatalities as well as the maneater attacks but little seem to have been done to provide relief to its inhabitants in both the above contexts.

Medanta, Medicity, sets a new record ! 98 year old Iraqi citizen is healthy after coronary cardiac surgery ! pic Jagran n FB

There was a time three decades ago when cardi vascular surgeries in India were next to impossible rather extremely negligible and majority of the heart patients needing urgent surgeries either went abroad to US incurring large expenditures or resigned to fate.

The rich, affluents and the politicians under government support went abroad for complex heart surgeries thus enhancing their life spans. I fondly remember late H. N. Bahuguna had gone to cleveland n Houston USA and got operated for his serious heart ailment twice but was hard lucked and met his sad end in 1989 during his second surgery in 1989 .

Today heart surgeries are very commen in India and almost all the government and private hospitals are fully equipped with the latest techniques n hi tech machines and cardio vascular surgeries have become very common with extremely high success rates in a package from 1.5 to 3.5 lakhs differing from hospital to hospital. Planting of stents clearing the blockages in heart arteries is a common phenomena these days where as few decades ago the mortality rate was too high with heart patients dying of cardiac arrests for want of surgeries and planting of stents.

But despite all this performing heart surgeries on senior citizens above the age of 70, 80 or even above it, is still a highly ( usually) challenging task which the cardiac surgeons usually avoid depending upon the physical, mental and psychological conditions of the old aged patients whose heart muscles usually become weak and therefore not prone for successful heart surgeries.

In India cases of heart transplants have also been successful which are rare. But despite all these odds and highly challenging surgeries of heart of the octogenerians or patients with more age, the Gurugram hospital Medanta, Medicity, a multispeciality hospital, owned by a renowned cardiac surgeon Naresh Trehan has successfully conductd a heart surgery on a 98 year old patient of Iraq who’d come here for treatment clearing his four blocked heart arteries, thus making history for the first time.

According to Jagran a 98 year old patient of severe heart ailment suffering from blockages in four arteries namely Mohammed Kadim Sayeed was successfully operated in Medanta, Medicity a super speciality hospital, specilized in cardio vascular surgeries. Being an overaged patient nearing 100, it was really a herculean task for the surgeons to conduct the heart operation of Sayeed with four heart arteries blocked.

According the globally renowned heart surgeon Naresh Trehan, Medanta has established a record of sort by conducting this 100% successful coronary by pass heart surgery on a 98 year old patient clearing his all the four arteries of the blockages which led to acute chest pains to the patient. Trehan said conducting surgery on a 98 year old patient is a highly risky proposition in which chances of success and survival are very negligible.

He assured that after this successful surgery of 98 year old Iraq citizen Mohammed Kadim Sayeed the patient is completely healthy and in sound physique. It may be recalled that the 72 year old Dr. Naresh Trehan is a Padma Shri recepient and also the recipient of several other coveted awards.

He graduated from the Kings Medical College, Lucknow and thereafter went to US for higher medical studies. Dr. Trehan served as a cardiac surgeon in US for several years until the then prime minister Rajiv Gandhi requested him to come to India ans serve the countrymen. He conducted several successful surgeries in Escorts, Okhakala, New Delhi before establishing the Medanta, medicity super speciality hospital in Gurugram. Dr. Trehan gives concessions to poor patients who can’t afford for their critical surgeries.

Delhi literally becomes a gas chamber on Deepawali midnight

DELHI BECOMES THE TOXIC GAS CHAMBER ON DEEPAWALI MIDNIGHT FLOUTING THE APEX COURTS’ ORDERS

There had been an open and outright violation of the Supreme Court’s verdict on using fire crackers on the Deepawali night in Delhi defying the 8 to 10 PM limit to 12 O clock n even ahead of that till 1.00 AM with bursting of crackers goung unabated in whole of Delhi with the law enforcing agencies, particularly the police agencies literally doing nothing or negligible to enforce the court’s directives. There have been instances of 99 percent increase in the Air Quality Index in certain areas of Delhi at 11.00 PM on 7th November with Delhites not able to breathe properly especially those suffering from the respiratory disorders, lungs ailments, tuber ulosis, various cardiological disorders and cancer.

If one goes through the statistics or horrible table of AQI of yesterday night one would be shocked to learn that even in posh areas like Greater Kailash, Cannaught Place, Jangpura Lajpat Nagar, and semi reputed locations like Rohini, Wazirpur, Model Town, Mukerjee Nagar, Prashant Vihar, Shalimar Bagh, Hastsal, Uttam Nagar, Shastri Nagar, Uttari Pritam Pura and Deepali etc etc the PM 2.5 level has crossed above 15000 points to 2200 points creating tremendous difficulties for Delhiyes and the residents of the NCR to breathe. In Shastri Nagar near Anand Parbat the AQI went up to 2247 level.

However due to the winds’ flow in.the morning the skies had been cleared of the toxic gases up to some extent bringing considerable relief for the Delhites. There have been several incidents of fire in Delh8 causing tremendous losses but no casualty was reported, thankfully. Even most prestigious vicinities’ like Chanakyapuri and Major Dhyan Chand Stadium area witnessed AQI at 999 and 454 measured as the immensely polluted levels.

In fact of we go by the AQI table posted by ANI in its twitter handle Delhi has definitely become a gas chamber already suffering from green house gases emissions, grave vehicular pollution emanating out of 80 lakh two, three and four wheelers plyong on Delhi roads oncluding the construction pollution, gases coming out of airconditioners, stubble burning and diesal emissions from vehicles and thousands of trucks passing through Delhi on daily basis to other states.

Delhi is inhabitated majorly by population in the 80 percent of the areas which does not come under the posh and standarised locations and they are the one who’d actually suffered due tp tbe bDly worsening AQI having crossed from 1500 PM 2.5 points to 2400 points, especially on the Deepavali day flouting the honourable supreme court verdict. This is utterly shameful.

Delhi actually requires maximum number of tree plantations and simutaneous water conservation on a mass scale as the incessant development of Delhi has witnessed large scale felling of trees affecting badly the Delhi’s environmental scenerio.

The CPCB, the union and Delhi governments including the environment ministeries alongwith the corporate sectors, public indertakings and all the stake holders should come together cumulatively and devise ways and means to make Delhi gree amd get rid of the increading pollution in a phased manner through various mobilisation campaigns and reduction in the vehicular n other forms of pollutions.

Shame on we Delhites?

Polluted city Delhi worst to live in. Watch school going children wearing mask while going to school early morning.

SHAME ON WE DELHITES ?

Despite the stringent directives of the Supreme Court of India restricting Delhites to use fire crackers only for two hours from eight to ten PM on the Diwali day i. e. today the 7th of November, hardly had an impact to any extent in controlling the sound and fire cracker pollution emanating toxic gases adding to the already existing pollution in the capital city of India, Delhi and its surroundings, the national capital region viz Gurugram, Noida etc.

Deepawali is the most ancient festival of the majority community in India and worldwide where ever the Hindus live celebrated with utmost gaiety and fervour.

But the increasing global warming and the worsening climatic conditions and environment due to the rapidly and multiply enhancing pollution due to green house emissions, pollution from construction activities, stubble burning in Haryana n UP flouting court’s orders , factory emissions, emmisions from the 80 lakh odd vehicles in Delhi including thousands of Diesal trucks that pass through the Delhi territory, emission through millions of air conditions during the summer and of course the Diwali emissions that breaks all records, have finally compelled the Supreme court issue directives curtailing fire cracking limit on Deepawali for just two hours from 8 to 10 AM.

I personally kept a tab to watch whether the Supreme court’s moratorium on fire crackers would be abided by the citizens of Delhi or not. I was however satisfied that till 10.20 PM atleast 65 to 70 percent of the people stopped using fire crackers with thirty percent still busy defying the court’s order.

Being the festival season it’s next to impossible for the police personel and the department to curb this menace fully as it has to deal with serious crimes as well and the staff too is on Deepawali holiday.

It’s actually the people who are to be blamed. Sounds shocking and worrisome that majority of the population of the capital city is educated and well aware of the apex court’s orders as well as the anguishing situation of the enhancing pollution levels leading to various hazardous deseases taking place and causing unparalleled harm to the patients of critical illnesses, heart deseases, patients of lung infections, asthmatic patients, patients inflicted with tuberculosis and cancers etc but the rich and influential are still showing their money power and hostile prestige in exploding more and more fire crackers not only des – respecting and openly flouting the court’s orders but also making thousands of Delhites die of various pollution oriented physical n mental disorders.

Just about two weeks’ ago the Air Quality Index was the highest to 426 PM 2.5 in the capital making peoples’ lives hell to respirate and live comfortably.

Just imagine what will happen after Deepawali when thousands, even lakhs of tons of fire crackers emanate unacounted amount of pollution in our environment already having become toxic and not prone for healthy living.

Now enough is enough. For God Sake give up the crackers, once for all. Now its 45 minutes over 10 PM, I could easily hear fire crackers being exploded again with full speed and against the open dereliction of the Apex Court’s orders. Shame on we Delhites. The Supreme Court of India should take suo motto cognizance of this violation and call the chief secretary Delhi and the Delhi Police Commissioner to respond on this?

The govt should strictly adhere to the apex court’s ruling on Diwali: Delhi becoming a gas chamber warn EPCA

Published

on

The environmental pollution in the capital city Delhi has become extremely worrisome. Delhi is again likely to become a gas chamber as Deepawali is approaching near and the increasing stubble burning in Punjab and Haryana emanating toxic gases are likely to fill the environment of Delhi as there are predictions that from November 1 onwards the wind current from these states is likely to gush up towards the capital city creating tremendous health problems particularly for people suffering from various respiratory ailments, lungs infection, astamatic problems and cardiological disorders.

Despite the central n state ban on stubble burning in the adjoining states of Haryana and Punjab and imposition of excessive fine the process is continuing irrespective of any fear of the legal deterrent.

As per the latest news report of the apex court’s appointed body EPCA ( Environmental pollution, Prevention and Control Authority) the condition of the air quality and the environment is extremely worrisome in Delhi with the possibilty of the toxic stubble burning gases arriving in the capital in the first week of November compounded with the toxic gases likely to emanate from millions of tons of fire crackers in and around Delhi on November 7, the Day of Deepavali.

Delhi is already under the grip of polluting air, due to excessive emissions from millions of air conditioners, CNG, petrol and diesal vehicles and the construction dust pollution as well. About more than 80 lakhs – four , three and two wheelers including thousands of trucks and bus pass and ply on the Delhi roads daily already creating tremendous environmental hazards to the life of its residents especially childrens and people suffering from various lungs and cardilogical disorders.

Added to it, the polluted air alongwith toxic gases likely to arrive in Delhi after first November will make the capital city a gas chamber as said the Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejrival a year ago.

The worsening quality of Delhi air especially during the winter season in November is the worst phase for Delhites n residents of NCR as during this month, last year on November 9, the Air Quality Index was 486.

This is considered to be more than maximum and the Delhi government had to shut schools and also declare health emergency.

While the Supreme Court has issued strict orders confining the fire cracking limit to just two hours from 8 to 10 P.M. on Deepawali day it remains to be seen how seriously and severely does the Delhi police and other law enforcing agencies try to implement the court directives.

It has usually been observed that the people themselves are so irresponsible and non serious on the issue of pollution control that instead of exercising restraints they show their money power and burn more fire crackers thus vitiating the environment of Delhi and playing with the health of the people.

Now enough is enough the Delhi police should form petrol parties in larger numbers in all the districts of Delhi and ensure that the supreme court directives are implemented in toto by punishing the guilty and sending across a strong message of deterrence. The ministry of environment and the governments of Haryana and Punjab n of other states as well, should also give up the vote politics and implement the anti stubble burning laws strictly to save the environmemt and peoples’ health.

But, there is a general public opinion which has never been adhered to or respected by the incumbent governments and that is in addition to the passing of stricter laws and directives to exercise restraint in the timings of Deepawali, the govt should actually come out with a strong legislation for the closure of the firecracker factories in the country, if not fully at least partially so that the root cause of the poision or desease is hit than implementing laws non seriously bringing no concrete outcome.

If these fire crackers factories would be closed, hundreds of thousands of children and poor people inhaling toxic substances and suffering from various forms of cancers will also be relived of this life taking profession.

But the government should also ensure that all the poor workers who’ll become unemployed working in these deadly factories are suitably compensated by way of financial help of petty jobs.

Meanwhile in a tweet the Patna Sahib MP n dissident BJP leader Shatrughan Sinha has said: Finally, hopefully, a ray of hope for all of us especially in Delhi as hon’ble SC passes orders on the manufacturing and burning of crackers. An extremely welcome move to ensure a healthier living for all # Green crackers.

Saint Gopal Dass writes to PM with blood, demands right to protest by being on hunger strike without consuming water or euthanasia ?/ forcibly addmitted in hospital

Sant Gopal Dass being forcibly taken to AIIMS, RISHIKESH

Swamy Gopal Dass who’d been on fast unto death and has also stopped consuming water has written to the prime minister Narendra Modi in his own blood to allow him to under take fast without consuming water as its his fundamental right or give him wish death or euthanasia. He was complaining about the harrasment being meted out to him by the local authorities and the management of the AIIMS Rishikesh who are allegedly trying to break his fast fearing his possible death as his hunger strike has crossed 115 days n now is without water consumption as well. Hence, he asked for the wish death/ euthanasia.

The ashram situated in Kankhal, Haridwar known as Matri Sadan is in news these days not only in India but abroad as well as as two environmental saints highly committed and dedicated for making the Ganges pollution free and demanding immediate stoppage to mining in Ganga and its tributeries have given up their precious lives while being on fast unto death for 112 n 115 days respectively in this ashram namely Swamy Nigmanand n Swamy Swaroopa Sanand in 2011 and 2018 just a few days ago.

As a sequel to the hunger strike of Swamy Sanand, one more saint Gopal Dass who was already on fast unto death for the last 125 days at various places has continued his fast in the Matri Sadan and have now given up water intake as well.

The entire administration of Haridwar under instructions from the top had been behind him, since then, fearing his possible death as was the case with two other saints earlier. Swamy Gopal Dass was today forcibly taken to AIIMS Rishikesh n is under treatment.

The swamy tried his best to evade his arrest but in vain. He locked himself in his room but when the police tried to break open the door to physically lift him, he himself dodged the police and ran away but was later on caught by three policemen who ferried him to AIIMS for immediate treatment.

While being locked in the room prior to his being shifted, the frail and thin appearing saint Gopal Dass in a huff punctured his thumb and wrote a letter to the president and prime minister with his blood demanding his fundamental right to fast without the intake of water and demanded either to give him wish death/ euthanasia or send him to some other country which can grant him asylum to pursue his fast unto death.

Saint Gopal Dass was just two days ago was addmitted and treated in AIIMS and was thereafter left at Matri Sadan but after he was left at the Ashram he gave up the water intake till his death. Therefore the AIIMS doctors alongwith the police n the SDM approached the Matri Sadan Ashram and forcibly took him to AIIMS.

He is being currently put on treatment. The saint was too adamant and was not ready to give up his fast n now gave up the water consumption as well. He is protesting peacefully on the lines of Swamy Swarup Sanand for making the Ganges pollution free, immediate stoppage to mining and ensuring free and smooth natutal flow of the pious/ holy river.

Swamy Gyan Swarupanand no more, dies after 111 days hunger n thirst at AIIMS. Was demanding ban on illegal mining in the Ganges.

Swamy Gyanswaroopanand aka GD Aggrawal, eminent environmentalisi

There is a very shocking news. It is very sad and unfortunate that an eminent environmentalist and the relentless fighter for preservation and protection of the ecology of the Uttarakhand himalayas whose entire life has been dedicated for the water, forests and land conservation including his relentless fight against big dams, professor GD Aggrawal aka Swamy Gyan Swarupanand has left for his heavenly abode after 111 days of fast unto death, stopping even consuming water after he was forcibly addmitted at All India Institute of Medical Sciences in view of his badly deteriorating health condition.

Professor Dr. Swami Gyan Swarupanand a highly enlightened and qualified saint on the environmental issues of Himalayas n the country , had been continuously protesting by being on fast unto death in his Haridwar Ashram Matr Shree for the last three months and 20 days against the illegal or legal mining in the pious Ganges demanding immediate ban on the illegal/ legal mining in the Ganges, construction activities around its banks, against the contruction of big dams and arbitrary felling of trees.

Unfortunately the vision less politicians and those at the helm of affairs in Uttarakhand and at the centre, including those at the helm of the environment ministry never bothered to give attention to late Swamy’s views and demands finally allowing him to die in such a precarious condition.

Prior to Swamy Gyan Swaroopanand, Swamy Nigmanand has also died out of hunger for 115 days at the mere age of 34 years during the regime of BJP on the same demands as of now, on 11th June 2011 at Jolly Grant Hospital at Rishikesh where he was forcibly lifted from the Anshan sthal due to the deterioration in his health condition.

The chief minister had been to Haridwar a few months ago in a Sant Sammelan but never bothered to visit the hungry and ailing swamy for the betterment of the ecology of the hills and maintaining the smooth flow of the Ganges.

Dr Agarwal has served as a faculty member of IIT Kanpur, was the Central Pollution Control Board Member Secretary and also a guiding force for pressurising the CPCB in taking tough action against industrial and urban polluters, and ensure that our rivers flow freely and remain healthy. He inspired thousands by his ascetic life and dedication to environmental causes.

Had the government of the day in Uttarakhand and the centre which boasts so much of protecting the interests of the saints n saffron robed swamys taken care of the demands and health of Swamy Gyan Swarupanand he would not have died after 111 days of hunger n thirst.

Such a callousness on the part of the authorities and leaders concerned for an environmentalist of eminence is something never heard of before. How can a precious life of such an enlightened environmental activist be allowed to perish due to the negligence of our political masters sitting at the helm of political and administrative dispensation is a moot question? May the Almighty give peace to his soul.

Tempo traveller falls in a gorge on national highway at Gangotri in Garhwal, 9 die while 6 injured

Published

on

Fatal accidents claiming several lives have become a common feature in Uttarakhand. The number of fatalities in these accidents is enhancing day by day and majority of the tragedies are occuring due to the buses, tempo travellers or cars carrying overloaded passengers and felling in deep gorge several meters below after becoming either imbalanced or the drivers losing their controls. The main reasons of these accidents are also the narrow and unrepaired pathways n roads full of pot holes and uncleared landslide prone roads not at all suitable for plying of vehicles like passenger buses. In certain cases the drivers are careless and in inebriated position being the liquor addicts. There had been several accidents n head on collisions due to the drivers either busy on mobile phones while driving or talking to the fellow passengers. Majority of the accidents occur on the narrow turns due to the negligent driving and the speeding vehicles. There is another shocking news today about a tempo traveller carrying over 15 passengers having met with a brutal accident having killed 9 passengers, 8 on the spot n one succumbed to injuries later on. About 6 passengers have been seriously injured. The fatal accident occured on Gangotri national highway about ten kilometres before Bhatwari in Sungar this morning when the tempo traveller arriving towards Uttarkashi fell into the deep gorge after the driver lost the control killing 8 passengers on the spot and one passenger dying later on succumbing to injuries. The dead and injureds were retrived with the help of the local villagers and the police which arrived on the accident spot after some time while the injured have been addmitted in the nearby hospital.

Delhi High Court directs Delhi government to file status report about treatment given to the poor in six weeks !

Published

on

The Delhi high Court has issued notice to the Delhi government directing it to submit the report of all the six Delhi government hospitals to the court regarding the medical treatment being given to the poor patients as well as the status report of various other aspects as the former feels that despite the hospitals being allocated a vast amount of funds theu are not rendering up to the mark services leading to the sufferings of the poor patients and those hailing from lowest ebb of the society.

The High Court has issued notice to the government of NCT of Delhi on a public interest litigation filed by a person complaining about the complacent medical services and treatment of poor patients in the GB Pant Hospital where an MRI machine is non functioning/ defunct for the last two years despite several complaints leading to untold miseries and inconvenience to patients suffering from critical ailments.

The court has also directed the GB Pant hospital authorities to submit the report about the defunct MRI machine within a week’s time in addition to the detailed reports of all the six Delhi government hospitals’ functioning including the status report about the numbers of Delhi and outside patients treated in these hospitals from the Delhi government.

According to the news reports the counsel of the Delhi government representing it, has acquainted the court about the satisfactory improvements made in all the Delhi government hospitals by the present government in terms of provision of better medical facilities, treatments, surgeries and free distribution of medicinies etc but the court was not satisfied and directed the concerned authorities to submit a detailed status report of all the six hospitals functioning under its jurisdiction acknowledging tremendous funding.

The six hospitals under the Delhi governments’ jurisdiction include the GB Pant hospital, LNJP hospital, Dr. Ambedkar hospital and Guru Tegh Bahadur hospital etc.

It may be recalled that the Delhi government of AAP has undoubtedly carried out great amount of resurrection of the various Delhi government hospitals, dispensaries, poly clinics and health centres by way of improvement in services, availability of staff, doctors, pharmacists and free distribution of medicines etc including free surgeries for critical illnesses in private hospitals but in view of the increasing rush of patients still lot n lot needs to be done and that’s the reason the honourable high court wants to ensure that maximim of the poor and economically deprived patients receive the best of treatments in these government hospitals.

Manual Scavenging a serious problem! Should be dealt with on extreme priority basis !

Published

on

It sounds horrific and terribly shocking that even after seven decades of our independence and so much talks about lifting up the socio economically deprived sections and those belonging to the lowest ebb of the society, manual scavenging is still prevalent in our country with sever workers dying day by day for want of adequate life saving equipments and latest machines required during cleaning of the sewers, literally filled with garbage full of human shit, emanating highly poisionous/ toxic gases leading to confirmed deaths.

What is more shocking and anguishing is the fact that the central and state governments have till yet turned a blind eye on this pivotal issue except the Delhi’s AAP government but that too after so much of public outrage and hulla balloo after few deaths in sewers during a months’ time in national capital territory of Delhi.

Even few months ago scavengers and sewer workers had been killed in Noida and Delhi Shahadara etc when they were employed by some private builders to clear the overfilled sewers devoid of any oxygen cylinders and life saving equipments including the sewer cleaning machines.

Sounds ironical and worrisome that there is no provision of any health insurance incentive for these vulnerable sewer employees nor provision for grant of a handsome financial compensation to the bereaved families of the dead who are below poverty line.

While majority of the political parties are busy in issues like Rafale, banking frauds and agrarian crisis etc trying to derive maximum political advantage in view of the fast approaching elections of the three states and the general elections of 2019, the only party that seems to be worried for their welfare and well being and fighting for justice is the Communist Party of India ( Marxists) who under the leadership of the former women MP and the polit bureau member of CPM Brinda Karat held a massive demonstration outside the Delhi secretariat raising slogans against AAP, demanding adequate compensation and due delivery of the latest sewer cleaning equipments and life saving machines including the health insurance of the sewer employees and the mannual scavengers.

In a memorandum presented to the Delhi government’s deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, the leader of the manual scavengers and the party protestors Ms Brinda Karat demanded provision of sewer cleaning machines, rehabilitation of workers, strict enforcement of ban on manual scavenging and sanctioning of financial compensation of Rs. 25 lakhs to family of those killed.

The protestors also demanded that the Delhi Jal Board immediately stop the privatisation of the sanitation work. The wife and three children of the sewer worker Anil who had died just a few days ago inside the sewer while cleaning it, were also protesting alongwith other CPM workers holding the picture of her deceased husband and complaing about the financial compensation not yet delivered to the bereaved family despite being publicly declared by the state government.

Speaking to reporters, furious and badly angered Brinda Karat said that despite the existing law against manual scavenging its not being implemented by the governments concerned.

The government’s complacence in failing to provide adequate machines and life saving equipments lead to people calling the private sewer workers who anguishingly end up losing their precious lives. This is absurd and condemnable she added.

In the meanwhile the chief minister of Delhi Arvind Kejrival convened the first ever meeting of the state monitoring committee on prohibition of employment as Mannual Scavengers and their Rehabilitation with officials and social welfare minister Rajendra Pal Gautam.

Both the chief minister Arvind Kejrival and the social welfare minister addressed the press conference declaring that the Delhi Jal Board would be purchasing 200 sewer cleaning machines within the next two months compounded with rendering of a full fledged training and providing permanent jobs to about 45 persons with civil defence of the Delhi government.

The press release from the office of the Delhi Social Welfare minister Rajendra Pal Gautam stated that : It is evident that the death of manual scavengers have not been stopped despite the ban on the hazardous practice of incidents of manual cleaning of sewers and safety tanks. It is viewed that since the formation of prohibition of Manual Scavengers act 2013, it has not been implemented effectively.

According to a research report, the manholes full of sewer releasing highly toxic gases consist of 78 % of Nitrogen with the garbage, rubbish, human shit etc producing deadly methane, hydogen sulphide, carbon mono oxide and ammonia which reduces the oxygen levels, causing Hypoxia thus often leading to deaths due to axphyxiation.

According to an official statistics about 1500 people had died in India in various locations inside sewers while cleaning them them devoid of the life saving equipments etc. This is most unfortunate.

Six year old killed by a maneater in Bageshwar, Uttarakhand ! Predator grabs the girl from her house compound, dies on way to hospital

Published

on

Uttarakhand seems to have been cursed by natural calamities, fatal road accidents and incessant attacks of maneaters claiming lives after lives almost after every alternate days and what is worse is the fact that there seems to be no relief from the government’s side to the utter shock, dismay and despair of the people living there. If one goes into the statistics of maneater killings in the hills of Uttarakhand which are not maintained duly one would be surprised and shocked to find the increasing rate of the predator killings going on unabated with the forest department, wild life and the minister concerned doing little or negligible to set right the situation.

Newsviewsnetwork has just yesterday written on the subject in addition to several other earlier writeups mentioning about the increasing prowl of the maneater leopards and tigers for human flesh near roadsides and houses situated near the forest areas and subsequent killings of children, old aged and women in Garhwal and Kumaon divisions of Uttarakhand.

According to a journalist, activist and an author Chandra Shekhar Joshi living in Uttarakhand, a maneater in search of human flesh literally grabbed a 6 year old girl from her house in Nadi village of Bageshwar, Uttarakhand at 8.30 PM and tried to drag her towards the forest. The brave and desperate terrified family members were however successful in snatching the injured girl from the grip of the predator but could not survive while being ferried to the hospital which took near an hours’ time.

The dead girl was playing in the compound of her house when the maneater cladestinely grabbed her by the jaws and started dragging her to the near by forest when the desperate members of the family snatched her from the grip of the tiger profusely bleeding after deep jaw injuries. Chandra Shekhar said that on 3rd September too a maneater in Katyur Valley’s Salamgarh village a four year old daughter of Chatur Singh Parihar was cladestinely taken by the maneater who left her badly mutilated dead body after eating it in the nearby rivulet found the next evening.

Similarly on 24th March and 12th July these carnivorous animals killed two children aged 3 and 7 years respectively afyer dragging them to the nearby jungles namely Karan Ram and Deepak. It’s really disheartening to note that while the villages of Uttarakhand are constantly being emptied due to the incessant influx of the villagers to cities and metropolises in search of job avenues, health facilities and better quality education for their wards, the villages are being dominated by animals such as wild monkeys, pigs and maneaters who are on the prowl for human flesh with the state government agencies literally doing nothing to set right the situation by safeguarding the lives of the remaing inhabitants in villages and towns near the forest areas in particular.

About 155 leopards and tigers have been declared as maneaters in Uttarakhand hills while about 350 people have been killed roughly by maneaters in various areas of Uttarakhand. However the wild life department pleasingly boasts of the increasing number of tigers in Uttarakhand hills teaching more than 400 in numbers.
